I think thats what they said they were called yes. The one they showed was definitely a laundry.

Yes it was a Magdalene laundry. Basically the work house with added religion and cruelty and abuse perpetrated in the name of God Angry. The last one in Ireland only closed in 1996!

The film 'Philomena' is worth a watch as it tells the story of a girl in one of these Magdalene laundries.

There's also a film called the Magdalene Sisters. It's a harrowing watch at times though.

In those days you wouldn't be able to adopt unless you had a bit of money - the mum had to stay at home, at least.

It's almost as though the daughter is mothering the mother.

I feel that episode was a bit of a let down. I do not feel close bonds will be forged. I agree Imperial. They're too different the Mother and Daughter.
