Boring title; hope the tennis is better!

Berdych seems to go for other people's cast offs, coach-wise. He has definitely not found 'the one'.

I liked Goran with Cilic. Sad

NoBarbaraGood · 08/08/2016 20:15

Delpo has just broken Sousa; steady, now.

Can't get over the atmosphere in the stadium -- so wild!

Raahh · 08/08/2016 20:17

It was very noisy watching last night, made Davis cup look tameGrin.

Come on Juan!

NoBarbaraGood · 08/08/2016 20:29

The fans are so crazy. It's okay, this is the Olympics. But I really hate it when fans bring nationality into the match on the regular tour.

Aussie Fanatics, I'm talking to you.

And you too, Alex Salmond.

Raahh · 08/08/2016 20:41

barbara I couldn't agree more. I watch players, without giving a flying fig where they are from.

I noticed a distinct lack of Aussie Fanatics at Wimbledon this year. Which was no bad thing. Maybe they are really just Hewitt fans- and not too keen on Kyrgios either[ grin]

Raahh · 08/08/2016 20:42

but whoop! Go Potato! Grin

NoBarbaraGood · 08/08/2016 20:49

I hope this is no flash in the pan for Delpo; I'd love for him to come on strong for the rest of the year.

Raahh · 08/08/2016 20:53

Oh, I hope so- and with Fed out for the rest of the year (Happy Birthday Roger!Cake) , Djok falling apart a bit, Rafa (by his own admission tempting fate by playing, but didn't want to miss Rio) it opens things up a bit.

CremeEggThief · 08/08/2016 22:45

Go on Del Potro! Delighted for him. I'd like to see him win gold, if Rafa doesn't.

I think you have to go with the flow when watching the Olympics. Scheduling kind of goes out the window. So far, I have enjoyed beach volleyball, canoeing, rowing, gymnastics, swimming, table tennis, diving , equestrianism and of course, tennis. I just switch on the telly, watch it if it takes my fancy, and if not, see what else is on the red button. I always find something to watch.

NoBarbaraGood · 08/08/2016 23:50

Whoa -- what is up with Serena? She is looking dreadful against the appalling Alize Cornet. I know there aren't many Serena fans here, but Cornet?!

Serena looks like she really wants to go home.

CremeEggThief · 09/08/2016 15:01

Serena is the only player who can slump so dreadfully in her matches and then somehow come back to win. How many times have we seen it?

I enjoyed watching the highlights of the British guy playing table tennis earlier. AFAIK, a lot of the tennis players play table tennis too. I think Rafa is really good at it.Smile

Raahh · 09/08/2016 16:08

Table tennis fascinates me. Such a small table, but they seem to use acres of space around it]. It's a lot more physical than it looks like it should be, at pro level, iyswim.

CremeEggThief · 09/08/2016 17:10

I love the chance of watching other sports, as I normally only bother with tennis and to a lesser extent, football. I really enjoyed the badminton in the last Olympics. I wonder if any tennis players play badminton too?

NoBarbaraGood · 09/08/2016 20:22

Watching Konta v. Kuznetsova -- very entertaining, even though there is zero crowd buzz (everyone's over watching Rafa?).

Go Jo, obv. although I am prepared to like Kuznetsova. Is there any reason not to?

To answer you, Creme Egg, I read an interview with RF in which he mentioned playing badminton as well.

Raahh · 09/08/2016 20:27

Rafa is through, which is good. Looks like the British doubles pairing will be Konta and Jamie Murray (as the higher ranked doubles player) rather than Andy and Heather. But they are back up. It could still change.

I love watching the diving, swimming and the gymnastics. Also the rowing. Actually, I enjoy quite a lot of things when it comes down to it. I just like being a an armchair sports person couch potato .

Was so chuffed for Adam Peaty when he won his gold- he looks so happy, and said and did all the right things. The swimming coverage has been great, imo. They don't hold back when it comes to letting everyone know how they feel about previously banned players taking part- and are visibly thrilled when said swimmers don't win Grin.

I'm looking forward to the athletics, but 'Super Saturday' in London was such a massive night, it will take a lot to beat it. Plus the time difference doesn't help

Raahh · 09/08/2016 20:30

I didn't realise til yesterday either, that the 'voice' of gymnastics commentary Mitch Fenner had died, very recently. He had a voice that was instantly recognisable to me- but I barely knew what he looked likeGrin

NoBarbaraGood · 09/08/2016 20:39

I have enjoyed the equestrian events since I was a girl, but they have never been covered much over here. Another reason to thank technology: I can watch the horses and riders any time with Olympics on demand!

Fashion note: am I alone in really liking Konta's outfits? She looks rather elegant out there.

NoBarbaraGood · 09/08/2016 21:10

I realize I need to apologize for remarks I made about Novak Djokovic's tennis bags. I fumed about his being in the colors of Brazil's flag, as an attempt to curry favor with the host country. My son pointed out that Murray had them, too, and so did, well, almost everyone else. A souvenir of the games, obviously.

That doesn't excuse the wristband.

NoBarbaraGood · 09/08/2016 21:11

And yay, Jo Konta!!

Raahh · 09/08/2016 21:28
Grin

I wouldn't put it past Djok though. He's desperate to be loved.

hugoagogo · 09/08/2016 21:30

For what a win for Konta! I am glad I stuck with it, the commentary was almost enough to put me off tennis- that bloke just would not shut up.Angry

Raahh · 09/08/2016 21:30

And yay! yy to Jo.

Medals are looking a bit thin on the ground in team GB. I'm sure we were doing better by this time last time.

NoBarbaraGood · 09/08/2016 22:42

Just read that Djoko is not playing the Masters 1000 in Cincinnati. Hmmm.

Raahh · 09/08/2016 23:01

Barbara I feel there is definitely something going on 'behind the scenes' - he doesn't seem to be ill, or injured, but something has changed. I know there have been rumours about his marriage. it's different to Rafa's sudden lack of confidence, I can't put my finger on it- but something in the Djok Camp is not good. I'm not a fan, but it makes the competition far less interesting when the best players aren't all competing.

-and I don't want Murray to win, Olympics or not--. Tennis

Raahh · 09/08/2016 23:02

Strike out fail Grin
