Well, Toronto is looking thin on the ground, Federer, Murray and now Rafa have all pulled out. As well as Ferrer and Gasquet, amongst others Leaves it very open for Djok.
So many players have pulled out of Rio too, citing the zika virus, not wanting to lose out on points or prize money (??!) or tournament conflicts. In the case of Tomic and Kyrgios, I think the main reason is they have behaved so badly, that the Aussie Olympic committee would rather they stayed away anyway.
The points argument is an odd one- they get 750 points for winning, iirc OK, so, it's a one-off and drops the following year (not 4 years later) but it's still points.
It will make people question (not for the first time) why tennis is even in the Olympics, since it isn't the pinnacle of the sport, the way it is for almost all the other athletes in various events. This makes them look less committed. In fact I read one of them had said as much- that he hadn't spent 4 years training for this, it didn't matter. (paraphrasing- might even have been Tomic, but am not sure).
I feel for the Toronto events organisers- three of the biggest names out is a big blow.
Come on Raonic!
