(After our antenatal thread became somewhat hijacked with talk of Doctor Who)

Hello,

My name's (usually) MsMoss and I've been a Doctor Who Geek for over twenty years now. I grew up with McCoy, stood by it through its years in the wilderness and now watch, proud but slightly bemused, as it is no longer shameful to admit you're a fan.

Anyone else with me? You love the new series but don't want the old to be forgotten?

Join me, stand up and be counted!

LOL SueBaroo, and thanks UD!

RibenaBerry · 04/06/2007 14:37

This is my first post on this board, so be gentle with me...

Re Tim, when he bumps into Martha in the street, isn't he reinacting a scene from the first episode? It's the Doctor who bumps into Martha on the street (before he meets her properly) and I think he's just seeing it as if he were the Doctor. Am I remembering that correctly?

lemonaid · 04/06/2007 14:40

That's what I thought, too, RB.

RedtartanLass · 04/06/2007 15:40

Ahh RB, think you are prob right!!! It was the best episode of DR Who EVER!!! Even better than the cyberman episode in Wookey hole which completely spoiled our annual family holiday for me back in the early 70s!!

SueBaroo · 04/06/2007 16:33

RB, it's a good thought, but it's not quite the same scene.

I read it simply as Tim suddenly having a clairvoyant moment of awareness that Martha was out of her own time. It was represented onscreen as him 'seeing' her as she would be in the future. Nothing more plot-tastic than that, unfortunately. I don't think we'll see Tim again, sadly. He was great.

sphil · 04/06/2007 19:32

I agree - for me, best episode ever. Just thought all the actors were fantastic - DT, Jessica Hynes, the boy who played Tim and that SCARY alien/Baines - the boy with the sideways grin and the sinister sniff. Sadly though, I did think their brilliant acting shone a less than favourable light on FA's - she just seemed quite 'flat' compared to them - but I guess she's much less experienced and I like the character she plays.

Majorca, I still think he's a sod. All part of his alien-ness and difference to John Smith, really. When he said 'I'm capable of everything John Smith was' I thought 'No, you're not. You might look the same and have a willy the same size, but you can't have the life that Joan and John wanted together. Which is precisely what you said to Rose on the beach "The one adventure I can never have"'
I don't think he was being deliberately cruel, I just think he didn't get it.

Flipping heck I spend far too much time analysing this sort of thing.

RedtartanLass · 04/06/2007 20:26

lol at discussion whether DT was being fair or not!!! at Majorca watching it again. I'd love to see it again, especially that last 10 mins!! Have to wait until DVD.

RedtartanLass · 04/06/2007 20:27

Majorca - how can your dd1 remember the clthes Martha wore, from one episode to another. Am pretty impressed!!!

MrsWho · 04/06/2007 21:04

I got the torchwood locations of a Cardiff tourist info website.

mygirllollipop · 05/06/2007 09:01

Thanks MrsWho, I'm a bit daft and things have to be spelled out to me! Have been googling to find exact locations, because I would need a postcode to find it!

MrsWho · 05/06/2007 22:19

Just read somewhere (may have been dd1s DWA ) about the Kylie in the Chrismas special rumour. It denies she will be a cyberwoman BUT doesn't deny that she will be in it

MrsWho · 09/06/2007 21:03

Where is everyone this wweek?

Next week looks great!

The Doctor and Jack don't look too happy to see each other ?

Nymphadora · 11/06/2007 22:11

Saxon link to 1969

UnquietDad · 12/06/2007 13:10

Anyone want to work for Doctor Who Magazine ?

Mossie · 12/06/2007 17:51

Oh wouldn't that just be the dream job!

Sadly I have none of the required skills apart from the knowledge of Doctor Who.

Wasn't last week's ep excellent?!

Looking forward to next week's though... hey even through all this screaming baby business I've managed every week to sit down and watch Doctor Who.

Nothing like having priorities straight, is there?

UnquietDad · 12/06/2007 17:53

Your child will thank you in a few years!

UnquietDad · 12/06/2007 17:53

Major confession alert; I have actually written for Doctor Who Magazine. A long time ago.

But I'm not saying what, or when!!

akaJamiesMum · 12/06/2007 17:55

Jack is back next week - yay

bobsmum · 12/06/2007 17:58

Right - only you lot will listen to my theory as OG just ignored me when I made dh post it.

In every episode of series 3 the Dr has either lost, dropped or broken the sonic screwdriver except in the angel one where he "lost" the Tardis instead.

Personally I think it's a theme which will continue either in the background just underlining what's going on or maybe it will come to a head with losing something more important?

Is this symbolic of him feeling generally lost in life being so lonely and just not himself since losing Rose? Or do I need to get out more?

SueBaroo · 12/06/2007 18:03

bobsmum, I think it's Rusty taking the piss out of all the OG posters who keep making comments about the Doctor relying too much on the SS, or 'It's not a magic wand' etc.

So I think he's teasing the people wot hates the new series use of the SS, and letting them think, just for briefest moments, that the SS was no more, and then yanking the rug of smug SS-hating comfort from under them.

But I like your idea, too. Ruffle T Davies is big on plot arcs and little clues...

bobsmum · 12/06/2007 18:06

Suebaroo - hadn't thought of it like that. Russell is very norty like that.

SueBaroo · 12/06/2007 20:34

yeah, it's like the utter genius of Mr Moffatt taking the rip out of the stoopid anal arguments about whether the windows in the TARDIS were the right size. Oh, I chortled... but I will be getting a t-shirt with the angels on

btw, did you see this avvie? I love it
