(After our antenatal thread became somewhat hijacked with talk of Doctor Who)

Hello,

My name's (usually) MsMoss and I've been a Doctor Who Geek for over twenty years now. I grew up with McCoy, stood by it through its years in the wilderness and now watch, proud but slightly bemused, as it is no longer shameful to admit you're a fan.

Anyone else with me? You love the new series but don't want the old to be forgotten?

Join me, stand up and be counted!

I thought the 'battle' was quite disturbing when you think of the training children to fight and that they were going straight to war and the hymn over the top and then the WW vetrans at the end

I thought that they rushed the family of blood thing at the end too

The bit where Tim says about tthe Doctor and is on the trailer -is it the same voice? I didn't think it was?

foxcub · 03/06/2007 12:30

foxinsocks - thanx - we do the north Sheen Sainsbury's but there are a couple of large Waitrose's too - and of course Tesco Mecca in Osterley I could spend days in there..

...sorry, lowering the tine here aren't I. Lets stick to discussing the finer points of DT, and let's face it, there are many

foxcub · 03/06/2007 12:31

MrsWho - I found that disturbing too

MrsWho · 03/06/2007 12:52

Just been back to watch the trailer for series 3 here (first time I've done a 'new' link) and there is very little shown from the last 4 episodes
tiny bit from Blink and 2/3 small clips from Utopia and the one of John Simm

and the voice is too grown up to be Tim

BoingBoing · 03/06/2007 13:03

New to this thread, so hello!
I just wanted to post to agree with you all about last night's (and last week's) episode. They were amazing. Dr Who has NEVER made me cry before, not even when Rose left. It was exceptionally well done and covered so many elements. Everyone was brilliant, and DT is just a fab actor.

SueBaroo · 03/06/2007 15:04

It's the same lines spoken by Tim but the voice does sound a little deeper.
The only two explanations I can think of are that someone else says the exact same lines later in the series, (which is possible, they are quite iconic) or that the editing in the trailer deliberately obscured the 'young' sound of Tim's voice for effect.

I was thinking about it overnight and thought the last bit was so poignant. The Doctor battles monsters and is this powerful and clever man, but the aged Tim, sitting in a wheelchair, he's a real hero.

MrsWho · 03/06/2007 15:15

I still think its Saxons assistant

MrsWho · 03/06/2007 15:21

Still waiting for advise on how to spend my nectar points

Doctor Who: The Invasion 2
Doctor Who: The Visitation
Doctor Who: Robot
Doctor Who: Timelash
Doctor Who: The Three Doctors

Doctor Who: The Robots Of Death

  • Doctor who: The Leisure Hive Doctor Who: Pyramids Of Mars Doctor Who: The Dalek Invasion Doctor Who: The Tomb Of The Cybermen Doctor Who: Ghost Light Doctor Who: The Green Death Doctor Who: Revelation Of The Daleks Doctor Who: The Mind Robber

UnquietDad · 03/06/2007 15:30

Just popping in to say Mark Strickson was Turlough, and was blond, but dyed red so as not to be too similar to Peter Davison in ong shiots. Bonnie Langford played Mel Bush (!) from Pease Pottage, computer programmer....

TheDuchessOfNorksBride · 03/06/2007 15:39

Incoming trivia...

The actor who played Tim was also in Nanny McPhee.

Family of Blood very sad at the end, it's the war reference, all those boys going off to die. Gets me everytime.

motherinferior · 03/06/2007 18:01

I loved it.

I rather love Martha too. I really like the fact that that she's a proper doctor and all. And I think she's beautiful.

motherinferior · 03/06/2007 18:02

An echo of Penelope Farmer's Charlotte Sometimes at the end, too, which is never a bad thing.

foxcub · 03/06/2007 19:10

Bonnie Langford is definately ginger - I remember when she was a child star with all those ringlets. She lived near us and we used to see her all dressed up like a modern Shirley Temple!

I thought that he was just seeing the future but not actualy there in RL but I haven't watched it again.

He is like fire and ice and rage
He is like the night and the storm at the heart of the sun
He is ancient and forever
He burns at the centre of time and he can see the turn of the universe

and hes wonderful

on the trailers it is in 2 parts

MrsWho · 03/06/2007 20:28

second trailer has the first two lines

This latest story was the best ever and i also cried when the doctor seemed so desperate to stay Human and not have the responsibility of a Time Lord anymore.
Best of all, it was great trying to spot where they were filming in St Fagans, can't wait and go for a visit again, just glad they have used it as a location as there are so many fine buildings there.
AB

Fubsy · 03/06/2007 21:50

PMSL yesterday - DD was wtching the bit where Martha says she loves the Dr - DD says "Me too!"

Then: "How old will he be when i am grown up?"

So I said, "He's about 36 now, that means he's 30 years older than you! So when you are grown up he will be an old man"

And she said "Yeeurgh"

foxcub · 03/06/2007 22:06

"Me too!!!"

MrsWho · 03/06/2007 22:56

We went to St Fagans last week so spotted loads of bits!

Also visted the Who museum in Cardiff, had lunch in Howells? (where they filmed Rose) wandered Cardiff Bay looking for Torchwood locations(me) and Who locations (all of us)We even got a map

mygirllollipop · 04/06/2007 07:58

I'm thinking of taking DD2 to Cardiff for her sixth birthday in a couple of weeks, where might one find a map of Who locations, for her benefit not mine you understand. Oh and if it happens to have Torchwood locations on the map too then I would just have to visit them anyway and ask the girls to remember the episode wjere Rose goes to the parallel universe, OK who am I kidding - it's for me, me, me!

Fubsy · 04/06/2007 10:11

OOh, Cardiff is starting to sound very attractive!

Doesnt it have good shops too?

SueBaroo · 04/06/2007 10:15

Dh was going to take the older two to Cardiff over the weekend, but I threw a strop because I couldn't go with them.

Grown-up, me?

UnquietDad · 04/06/2007 13:43
