(After our antenatal thread became somewhat hijacked with talk of Doctor Who)

Hello,

My name's (usually) MsMoss and I've been a Doctor Who Geek for over twenty years now. I grew up with McCoy, stood by it through its years in the wilderness and now watch, proud but slightly bemused, as it is no longer shameful to admit you're a fan.

Anyone else with me? You love the new series but don't want the old to be forgotten?

Join me, stand up and be counted!

motherinferior · 27/05/2007 13:58

Matron btw is the same as Jessica Stephenson, she has changed her surname upon entering the instution of marriage.

Aitch · 27/05/2007 14:04

i thought she was absolutely wonderful in it, she's a deeply talented woman. [crush]

Aitch · 27/05/2007 14:04

and No Make-up!!!

SueBaroo · 27/05/2007 15:05

She was fab. Not quite sure how I'd cope with DT looking at me like this.

[thudding on the floor emoticon]

TwoIfBySea · 27/05/2007 16:22

Well if he does have children with her then wouldn't one of them then end up being Susan's parent? And that would tie into that storyline from yonks ago, and the film.

I am not a huge Doctor Who fan but last nights episode was really good, the first time I haven't read a paper or magazine while dts (5) watch it!

cupcakes · 27/05/2007 16:29

I'm lost - who is Susan? And what's all this master talk. Someone please explain to a Dr Who novice.

SueBaroo · 27/05/2007 16:31

Susan was a companion from very early on in the original series who called the Doctor 'Grandfather'.

cupcakes · 27/05/2007 16:33

aaah, thank you

SueBaroo · 27/05/2007 16:56

You're most welcome..

Aitch · 27/05/2007 19:38

oooooooooooooooooh, you know i don't think that's true but it's definitely An Interesting Thought.

talcy0 · 27/05/2007 19:47

Did you notice the names of 'John Smith's' parents -Verity and Sidney?

Katymac · 27/05/2007 20:53

Is that significant in any way Rusty?

JackieNo · 27/05/2007 20:56

RTD said on Dr Who Confidential that Verity was for the first producer of Dr Who - Verity Lambert. Can't remember who Sidney was though - something similar.

Rusty · 27/05/2007 20:57

Verity Lambert was the series' first producer in 1963 & Sidney Newman was BBC's Head of Drama who commissioned the original series. Nice touch I thought.

Aitch · 27/05/2007 21:00

aaaw, that is nice.

bran · 27/05/2007 23:04

I looked up the actor who played Tim on IMDB because he looked familiar. I was a bit to see that he was born in 1990, so he's 17 now, he looks about 12 on screen.

UnquietDad · 28/05/2007 17:24

How many of you are aware that this week's episode (and next) started life as one of the Virgin Books DW novels in the 90s? With the Sylvester McCoy doctor?

And do you care?

A lot of the fans seem to be unduly fussed about it, but I'm sure it doesn't bother the 7.5 million "normal" people who tune into Who every week.

Rusty · 28/05/2007 17:34

I've never regarded those books as part of the DW 'canon', so it doesn't bother me tbh.

UnquietDad · 28/05/2007 17:37

They were officially sanctioned by the BBC - my experience is that the people who like them call them canon and those who don't, don't!

I can't start retconning out of existence any stories I don't like, though, or I'd snap my fingers and lose "Time-Flight" - in fact, I'd quite happily lose "Time-Flight" for, say, "Goth Opera", a much more rich and fun and well-written Peter Davison story than "Time-Flight", written by Paul Cornell (who wrote this current 2-parter on TV) and which just happens to be a book.....

The current TV team don't even use the concept of "canon", and good on them!

Rusty · 28/05/2007 18:10

You can always just call them 'alternative Universe' I suppose.....

Agree with your opiniion on Timeflight . Personally I'd discard a lot of Colin Baker....

SueBaroo · 28/05/2007 18:56

Personally I'd discard a lot of Colin Baker....

UnquietDad · 29/05/2007 11:31

A nice little thing relating to the notebook from Saturday's episode!
