(After our antenatal thread became somewhat hijacked with talk of Doctor Who)

Hello,

My name's (usually) MsMoss and I've been a Doctor Who Geek for over twenty years now. I grew up with McCoy, stood by it through its years in the wilderness and now watch, proud but slightly bemused, as it is no longer shameful to admit you're a fan.

Anyone else with me? You love the new series but don't want the old to be forgotten?

Join me, stand up and be counted!

Rusty - I was at Longleat too! I was a 13-year-old in an anorak, with my dad.

MrsWho · 22/04/2007 23:22

UQD- how many kids would that describe?

roisin · 23/04/2007 07:28

Has anyone been to the Dr Who Exhibition at the Museum of Science and Industry in Manchester? Apparently it's been very busy, but dss are very keen to go!

MrsWho · 23/04/2007 10:26

We went in Easter hols, its quite good but they are adding more as the series goes on. I recommend booking tickets online as they were sold out by lunch time on the day we went and people were being turned away.

Pixel · 23/04/2007 20:07

Watch out though because we went to the one in Brighton on the pier and it was great. BUT they also said they would be adding things as the series went on so we paid to go in again (towards the end of the exhibition) and they'd only added one or two things. Disappointing and a bit of a con we thought.

MrsWho · 23/04/2007 20:22

You can see how big the space is for them and its not very big so there won't be much (unless the series if full of fairies/pixies/gnomes etc!)

Anyone been to the Cardiff one lately?

Lovecat · 24/04/2007 20:40

I don't understand the last episode!!

Why pigs? How?? Why are they all in dinky matching boilersuits (I know the daleks have transmogrified into bitter old queens under the hand of Russel T, but still!)

How are the daleks ending up back in time if they were destroyed in the time wars (when were the time wars supposed to have happened? Some time between Dr Who McCoy and Dr Who Eccleston?? I'm sure that Gallifrey etc was still on the go back then!) Surely if they all died then, even if some escaped they should be in the future, not back in the 1930's!

I'm sure I used to understand Dr Who when I was a kid, now I just feel thick....

redbeki · 24/04/2007 21:09

You have to be a kid now to understand it!

MrsWho · 24/04/2007 21:27

Its the thing about time not being linear one action can change history. The time lords/daleks fought (time war ) over who had control of time , this started around the old story 'remmberence of the daleks' but covered all dalek/time lords own history (even though they may have travelled forward in time during it) and what ever happened when the Doctor was there 'at the fall of arcadia' wiped out all those bits of time .BUT the dalek emporer survived until Rose/TARDIS/Time vortex wiped them out.
And later the cult of Skaro (4 bitter Queens!) survived, and saved themselves again at the Battle of Canary Wharf by 'Secs' 'emergency temporal shift' which took them to 1930s New York.

Pigmen ? No idea- I thought they were a crap idea basically meant to be servants.

Redbeki- I must be a kid then

MrsWho · 24/04/2007 21:31

If I researched I could do a time line if that would help (strangely tempted by the idea )

Lovecat · 25/04/2007 07:06

Thank you, MrsWho - I've obviously not been paying enough attention at the back here...

Yay! Do a timeline!! Go on, go on, go on (a la Mrs Doyle), go on, you know you really want to... )

redbeki · 25/04/2007 14:37

Me too Mrs Who!

Mossie · 25/04/2007 14:38

Mrs Who, do a timeline! Now... the biggest challenge is what bits outside the "cannon" you use... all the Big Finish stuff?

Oooh yes you must do one can't wait to see it!

UnquietDad · 25/04/2007 16:52

You know about this , right?

Don't re-invent the wheel!

MrsWho · 25/04/2007 20:34

Bollocks, have spent all day thinking about this (poor dd2s burnt pizza ) was hoping one of you would disagree with me

Have been thinking about it though and obviously some of the Dalek stuff did happen 'cos Capt Jack knew some of their history but I guess the Emporer/Cult of Skaro can't access it , ditto with the Dr and the Time Lords.

Mossie- according to RTD only Tv stuff is Cannon but I bet there is a lot that can be used.

If I do a time line I will only use Tv as I haven't had any expereince with Big finish (and don't want to listen to the whole lot in one go!)

MrsWho · 25/04/2007 20:35

UQD-Thats much deeper than I was thinking of!

MrsWho · 25/04/2007 22:27

Love this

Lovecat · 26/04/2007 08:07

Yes, I pmsl when I watched that!

MrsWho - that book looks about 10 years out of date and I'm sure yours'd be much more understandable (mwah mwah) - do a timeline, pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeease?

MrsWho · 26/04/2007 09:35

Well I have got as far as hunting out the dalek stories and now have a word file on my computer named Daleks Got side tracked last night by the Harry Potter/Sirius discussion

Mossie · 26/04/2007 18:06

UnquietDad... that book's expensive! Looks interesting... but I have spent far too much money already and now I'm on maternity pay so it'll have to wait until Christmas I think!! Either that... or Mrs Who's version will come out first

Yes I pmsl when I watched that

He is pretty darn nice though JB isn't he?

Fubsy · 26/04/2007 19:27

JB's on Loose Women tomorrow lunchtime I think.

MrsWho · 26/04/2007 20:15

I have set the dvd to record it I actually quite like Loose Women from a day time tv POV

Fubsy · 26/04/2007 20:19

Of course you like Loose Women, MrsWho.

Actually I was going to do the same!

SueBaroo · 27/04/2007 10:16

Cheers for the headsup about Loose women. I didn't see all of the Weakest link, but I heard about the theme tune thing - very funny.

UnquietDad · 27/04/2007 10:36
