(After our antenatal thread became somewhat hijacked with talk of Doctor Who)

Hello,

My name's (usually) MsMoss and I've been a Doctor Who Geek for over twenty years now. I grew up with McCoy, stood by it through its years in the wilderness and now watch, proud but slightly bemused, as it is no longer shameful to admit you're a fan.

Anyone else with me? You love the new series but don't want the old to be forgotten?

Join me, stand up and be counted!

Ooh Nikkie I'm going to order some new DVDs soon too, I got my bank charges back from NatWest, most of it has gone on baby stuff (and I bought a flat screen telly for dh!) but I am going to get some DVDs for my maternity leave!

UnquietDad I can't believe it, it's starting four days after my EDD! Well, they have a telly in the hospital I suppose....

UnquietDad · 27/02/2007 16:29

don't worry mossy - BBC3 will be repeating them throughout the year, I'm sure!

boredwithwaitingforminiMOSSY · 27/02/2007 16:36

Oh I know... but still I don't want to miss it!

I should get sky plus really, or an old fashioned video recorder!

nikkie · 27/02/2007 21:53

Mossy -you'll be watching it on BBC3 repeats in the middle of the night

boredwithwaitingforminiMOSSY · 28/02/2007 11:55

Lol Nikkie, yes that's how I picture my idylic life with a newborn, quiet suckling babe latched onto a nork while I watch Doctor Who in the midnight hour!!

Not sure that's going to happen in rl though.

UnquietDad · 28/02/2007 12:25

I have just looked at the calendar and I have got to go to a fucking WEDDING for two colleagues of DW's who I hardly know on 31st March!!! aaaaaaagh!!!! Bollocks!!!!

boredwithwaitingforminiMOSSY · 28/02/2007 12:37

At one of my cousins' weddings, Liverpool was playing Everton. One of my uncles smuggled in a mini-TV and watched the match during the reception!

Could you loan one of those TVs do you think?

UnquietDad · 28/02/2007 13:08

I had a (female) colleague who got married during a recent World Cup - the afternoon England were playing - and banned all mention of the football all day! She had the telly removed from the bar beforehand too. I bet quite a few men were sneaking away to car radios, etc. I'm not sure I could get away with it for Doctor Who. We'll have to trust the video - on which you can't watch Freeview while you are recording. Grandparents are babysitting, so they'll have to put up with that!!

"Smith and Jones" could be a first actually - first ever episode DD has seen before me!

boredwithwaitingforminiMOSSY · 28/02/2007 13:34

Not sure you could get away with it for Doctor Who? Who are these people who are getting married!? I can understand someone not wanting footie to overshadow a wedding. But Doctor Who? That's different!

(And I might also be tempted to make an exception for cricket, too. But I am a geek.)

Have just looked back on old posts, one of your bets was 31st March for the starting day!

UnquietDad · 28/02/2007 13:53

So it was! Thanks for reminding me! But I did have a reliable source.

boredwithwaitingforminiMOSSY · 28/02/2007 13:57

So what else can your "reliable source" reveal about the new series?

UnquietDad · 28/02/2007 14:05

Nothing that's not already officially known!

boredwithwaitingforminiMOSSY · 28/02/2007 14:15

Oh well that's a rubbish source then! Get a new one!

nikkie · 02/03/2007 16:43

Well I said April so I was wrong too!

nikkie · 03/03/2007 19:43

Watched Hand of fear today, thought it was a bit bitty but the end was typical Dr, not noticing S-J until it was sorted

UnquietDad · 03/03/2007 22:36

mossy - you have a point! To be fair they had genuine inside info on the transmission, but not on anything else.

nikkie - it starts well, I think, but goes a bit pear-shaped by part 3. I mean, WHAT is all that "hiding behind a truck to escape a nuclear explosion" all about??

Mossie · 04/03/2007 09:34

Ooh Hand of Fear, that's the one with the blue hand which turns out to be a fella and then a woman? Or is it the other way around? It's a long time since I've seen it!

Stayed up last night to watch the lunar eclipse and didn't get up until about ten minutes ago, so have missed The Monster of Peladon.

nikkie · 04/03/2007 14:05

Its a woman(modelled on S-J ) then turns out to be a man

UnquietDad · 05/03/2007 09:24

Monster of Peladon is only about 1/4 as good as Curse. You didn't miss much!

DD saw the start of the eclipse at bedtime, and asked me to wake her up to see it "when it is red". I took her at her word - she didn't respond to prodding though!

Mossie · 05/03/2007 11:02

I caught about two minutes of it and saw someone dressed in a green cloak with a massive green eye for a head. And a squeaky voice. Hmm.

Lunar eclipse was brill, shame your dd missed it. Still there's another one next year, iirc, although it'll be at about three in the morning!

florenceuk · 07/03/2007 21:11

new doctor who starts 24 March! sorry if you lot already knew that

nikkie · 07/03/2007 22:05

Why does Ace call the doctor Professor? and why is ghost light so cr*p?

ImaWurzel · 07/03/2007 22:08

New Dr Who????
David T is back????????? At long last.
(Wurz fans her face)

UnquietDad · 07/03/2007 22:53

florence - no, 31st. It was supposed to be 24th, but then the England/Israel game assumed greater importance and DW has been shunted back a week.

UnquietDad · 07/03/2007 22:54

nikkie - she always did, dunno why!
I think it's one of the better McCoys - repays further viewings...
