I'm non Scot, all sounded good apart from the witch which I thought was appalling and still can't believe it happened. However, I'm French speaker so can't wait to hear the accents....Scots actually speak very goid Fench.
I thought Murtagh actor was a Scot Hmm

Cerseiys are you saying the other Scot accents aren't broad

They are, but they're not Glaswegian! And Roger, as an educated man and son of the vicar, would probably have a softer accent.

I though the witch's accent was very wobbly, then I read she was Dutch(I think) but now I'm thinking maybe she was faking it because of being from the future. Hmmm.

Yes, the Glaswegian accent differs a lot from the highland accent but as I said, it's not that strong anyway from what I've heard.

My French teacher at school told us that we were lucky as Scots as the guttural (sp?) pronunciation would help us pronounce certain French words.

Drywhitethanks · 13/04/2016 21:15

RR in a kilt, love it!

Cerseiys I see now about the accent ....he can tone it down though as SH had broadened his it seems.

Hudyer her name sounds Dutch ,.........beautiful woman despite the accent.

My husband wants to watch season 1 again yay!

I'd have rewatched it anyway, but it's nice to have him on board. Wink

SenecaFalls · 13/04/2016 21:34

the different regions were accurate (not sure a non Scottish person would be as aware, apart from them sounding different to one another

I'm American but I went to university in Scotland. I can tell the regional difference in some of the accents, the Highland lilt (Jamie) and posh Edinburgh (Ned Gowan), but some of the others were a bit more difficult.

SPOILER ALERT: Geillis's accent is supposed to be a bit off. Can't say more or will spoil for later books. Lotte Verbeek is Dutch, but has spent a lot of time in the US.

ShowOfHands · 13/04/2016 21:43

But you can hear she's Dutch. I don't think that's the point. Obviously she's trying to disguise the fact she's from the 1960s but not with a Dutch lilt.

Cerseirys · 13/04/2016 21:47

Lotte Verbeek is gorgeous, I had a bit of a girlcrush on her when I watched The Borgias,

Drywhitethanks · 13/04/2016 21:53

Glad I'm not the only one watching and re watching Twinkle but I need a break for a bit because it's keeping me awake stressing about what's going to happen.

Ooh interesting senecafalls.

And I agree, other than the obviously good and bad, some of the accents were trickier to place.

I like the way Ned has a upper-class sounding Edinburgh accent, being an educated lawyer and all. I love Ned and Bill Paterson is a great actor.

Twinklestein · 13/04/2016 22:19

Even I, a Sassenach, sadly not the Sasssenach, could tell he had a posh Edinburgh accent.

I love book Ned and TV Ned and Bill Paterson. Ned is a man of many parts: lawyer, advisor, rent collector, wedding coordinator. . .

Drywhitethanks · 14/04/2016 07:57

Have just worked out that if season 2 has 15 episodes guess we'll still be here in July!!!!

ShowOfHands · 14/04/2016 09:26

I like Ned more and more as the books go on. He's around 140 at, um, Lallybroch (trying to avoid spoilers) isn't he? Grin

He's shrewd, loyal, intelligent and funny.

hudyerwheesht · 14/04/2016 12:54

Also love Dougal MacKenzie, think the actor's great.

I love how he's on the edge of losing his temper constantly. But then we saw his softer side when he spoke about Geillis.

Cerseirys · 14/04/2016 13:05

I find Dougal strangely attractive, even if he does look like someone you'd see down a Soho bar on bear night!

CallaLilli · 14/04/2016 13:06

So Dougal and Ned are Jamie's mothers brothers, right? So who was the dad from Billy Elliott to him? Can't remember the actors name!
