I feel this show is giving Claire something the book never managed - the love and compassion of those around her. IN the books she's respected and feared, and liked (when she is) on Jamie's behalf.

But here she gets love for being herself (like the Murtagh scene when they reveal she's a TT - btw where was Murtagh this episode?)

In fact the only bit of the episode where I actually cried was when she bows to Magnus. I think it was a silent acknowledgement for how he helped her, an incredibly loaded gesture. Says more about claire's character than anything she actually says.

And Fergus! Fergus. Really, really love Fergus.

I'm sad now. It was so well done.

I also finished DIA last night and I am SLAYED

TheHiphopopotamus · 22/05/2016 16:14

Yes, agree. They're actually making Claire the equal of Jamie in the TV series, something I don't really feel DG managed in the books (that might be sacrilege to some). But I'm really loving her in the tv series, especially this season, and CB's acting in the latest ep just blew me away.

snozzlemaid · 22/05/2016 16:35

AKA I felt exactly the same at the end of DIA. I was distraught. Not sure how I'm going to cope with watching it.
Get yourself onto reading Voyager as soon as you can.

Drywhitethanks · 22/05/2016 20:05

I'm in pieces.....have just watched........oh my goodness I adore CB, totally blew me away with some of the best acting ive ever seen. Such a beautifully written episode.

Murtagh is in Potugal delivering the bloody wine isn't he?

I agree that the scene with Fergus was great, he's such a good character.

Could someone please finish BJR off for gods sake!

Claire looked rather surprised at how quickly the rendezvous vous with Louis was.....

I'm wondering whether Raymond is a TT too?

Agree, when she came home to the servant and the bit with Magnus, that's when I started to cry.

I think The reunion with Jamie was perfect, nothing too dramatic, just devastating for both........

Thank God we get back to Scotland but not many episodes next week.

Jamie's voice was a lot deeper.....perhaps he won't be too bad older in season 3.

And what was with Claire's garish orange lippy and nails....yuck!

I adored the scene when Jamie comes home, the tired, hopeless way he climbs the stairs, the empty room with the ticking clock, and especially the way he's off focus for a long time, like Claire doesn't want to see him or hear him... Yes his voice is deeper and I thought - wow he sounds like a stranger, which I'm sure is what Claire must have thought...

I love how he kneels at her feet and how she says "take me home to Scotland" and he smiles, almost as if until then he still thought he might have lost her...

I can almost forgive that horrible fake beard

TheHiphopopotamus · 22/05/2016 20:37

There's so much to fit in in the last episodes, I'm wondering how they're going to do it Confused

AKAmyself · 22/05/2016 20:44

I know Hip, and that worries me!

pixieg1rl · 22/05/2016 22:06

Just watched. Loved it, although I'm having a bit of a grumpy PMT miserable weekend so I it didn't do much to take the edge off that.

How many episodes do we think it is, 12 or 13. Either way there's a lot of story to get through.

OohMavis · 22/05/2016 22:26

I knew this episode would hit me right in my pregnant lady feels, and I was right. Heaving sobbing mess.

CB's acting was just phenomenal. I really hope she gets picked up for some awards from this, she really deserves it.

Drywhitethanks · 23/05/2016 07:07

Only 40 posts until "Lassies of Lallybroch"!!!!

One of the script writers, Matthew Roberts, has done a quick Q&A on twitter. He has said that the beard was fake!
I'm sure if SH grew a real one it would look better than that.

MistressFraser · 23/05/2016 09:04

Here's a good article on the last episode.

OohMavis · 23/05/2016 10:58

Yes the beard was the only bit of comic relief in the whole episode Grin

pixieg1rl · 23/05/2016 11:12

Well, the OH and did have fun yelling 'don't forget your orange, Claire' to break the tension as well Mavis

AKAmyself · 23/05/2016 11:46

The Orange (as in the fruit) was pure class on Claire's behalf!

The orange beard, otoh... not so much. What's wrong with a bit of stubble ffs. Though in the books Jamie is described as supernaturally hairy, so I think they just panicked and stuck on a bit of ginger fluff they found lying around.

KateR1980 · 23/05/2016 12:56

Add me to the list of those sobbing through that episode, especially when Claire was holding her baby (my DD is 4 months old). Also sobbing with laughter at the beard ;)

hudyerwheesht · 23/05/2016 13:26

I was in bits a few times. Poor Fergus feeling so guilty and Claire reassuring him that it wasn’t his fault was one such time. Claire singing to the baby was another. Then as I was beginning to recover Jamie and Claire at the graveside leaving the christening gift spoon floored me entirely.

Just so many moving scenes. I felt exhausted afterwards. As everyone has said though, very well played.

Was the line from a film she mentioned from The Wizard of Oz (“I’ll miss you the most”)? If so, I think that’s the second time it’s been referenced the film as she said to Laoghaire about clicking her heels together three times. Since that scene (with Laoghaire) isn’t in the book I’m wondering if they’ve written it into the series for a reason.

Also wondered how Master Raymond knew what was wrong with Claire and where he acquired the medical knowledge to remove a placenta??

OohMavis · 23/05/2016 14:28

I found what Master Raymond said about them having the same blue aura very intriguing.

TheHiphopopotamus · 23/05/2016 15:01

I remember wondering when I was reading the book, whether M.Raymond was a time traveller. So far, that question hasn't been resolved though (in the books). I wonder if the series will make anything of it.

Still no news of a renewal for Season 3 yet.

AKAmyself · 23/05/2016 16:30

The scene with mr Raymond in the book was most bizarre. In the show, I was like ah ha! He just sticks a hand in and grabs the retained placenta! Which gruesome as it is, makes sense.

Jane054848 · 23/05/2016 21:13

I think the line is from Snow White ... She says it to dopey ... Which is mildly offensive if Raymond actually is a dwarf.

Agree with everyone. Fantastically done episode, terribly done beard. Begat ever possessed them?

Loved the Comte so much in this episode. Couldn't help feeling sorry for him with the single tear ... Even though he is eeevil.

TheHiphopopotamus · 23/05/2016 22:03

I think the line is from Wizard of Oz. Doesn't Dorothy say it to the scarecrow?

Drywhitethanks · 23/05/2016 23:03

Just watched it again......blubbed all over again. Where has CB been all these years? And SH too by the way.
but just wish they could buy a little farm in the french countriside and live happily ever after

Have started reading Voyager. So far I'm loving it (well, the Jamie parts. Can't say I care much for Claire's bit in modern times). I almost called in sick so I could stay home and read...

snozzlemaid · 24/05/2016 07:42

I'm about half way through Voyager now and it is so good. Lots of shocks that have made my heart stop. Just learnt a shocker about Jamie!
My sick leave ends on Thursday. I'm going to miss all this reading time.
AKA I agree about the Mr Raymond bit. It was very bizarre in the book, but made much more sense in the tv series.
