I read the first book when I'd seen the first half of season 1. I didn't find the differences confusing - it was interesting to compare. I left the second half of the book to read after the second half of season 2, but I wish I'd read it all at once. First because it was so great and I was really enjoying it, and second because in some ways you get more from the book, because there's more detail.

Twinklestein · 13/04/2016 10:07

And anyway you wouldn't be reading it at the same time, you'd read it in a week!

MyVisionsComeFromSoup · 13/04/2016 11:27

I actually quite like how they've started series two, rather than how the book starts. I think it makes it easier to follow the storyline for the non-book readers.

LBOCS2 · 13/04/2016 11:27

I decided to re-read the whole series ahead of the to show coming back. I'm somewhat regretting my decision now; I'm on book 6 and running out of steam...

I don't think you'll find DIA too confusing. It starts off with you thinking "wtf?! This is not how I left it!" But it unravels itself relatively quickly - it's just a different point in Claire's 'other' life, rather than the immediate aftermath of her return.

hudyerwheesht · 13/04/2016 11:35

Ok, I'm convinced - 1st book is on its way.

Bloody 1-click ordering on Amazon.

ValiaH · 13/04/2016 12:41

Agree about the theme tune- although it still gave me goosebumps when it started! I think this is the series I'm most excited about at the moment. Wondering how they'll do the rest of the book- whether it'll jump about or if they'll stick with one timeline at a time. Hud once you start its difficult to stop... made use of the next day delivery on prime as soon as I was getting to the end of one! LBOCS2 I was completely thrown by the start of DIA! After a few chapters it made sense though

Twinklestein · 13/04/2016 13:04

Ok, I'm convinced - 1st book is on its way

Hurray! Wine

Lessstressedhemum · 13/04/2016 13:11

I think his hair is a thing of wonder. In a kiltand plaid, speaking Gaelic, he is all my teenage fantasies come to lifeBlush. Best with a fringe though, right enough.

Twinklestein · 13/04/2016 13:11

People have told me read up to book 3 or 4 and then give up.

ValiaH · 13/04/2016 13:13

I quite liked the later books... they get a bit far fetched but I like the character development that goes on :-)

TheHiphopopotamus · 13/04/2016 13:24

I don't like Jamie in the later books. I much prefer a couple of other characters 🤐

I'm kind of hoping the tv series goes in a different direction. I couldn't get past the opening chapters of (I think it was) the 4th one. It was interminable.

I loved the first book though. It's a shame none of the others were as good.

SenecaFalls · 13/04/2016 13:32

I like the later books because they are pretty much alone in romantic fiction in the depiction of an older couple still very much in love and still sexually active. (Hope I didn't give too much away there Smile.)

TheHiphopopotamus · 13/04/2016 13:52

Oh, found this too. Thought there may be a few people on here who'd appreciate it.

Twinklestein · 13/04/2016 14:10

Oh yeah.

hudyerwheesht · 13/04/2016 14:13

Woah.

hudyerwheesht · 13/04/2016 14:15

I can imagine Valiah, I only read the "look inside" bit on Amazon and it seemed to prove how addictive those on here were saying it was!

hudyerwheesht · 13/04/2016 14:18

Got the theme song in my head now!

Reminds me of home, I've heard it played on bagpipes many, many times.

SenecaFalls · 13/04/2016 14:25

I read that they changed the arrangement of the song to try to evoke more of the French aristocratic setting. They've added a viola da gamba to the instruments.

Twinklestein · 13/04/2016 15:46

Luckily I've got the Outlander soundtrack vol 1. Love it!

I listen to it often in traffic - takes me to the Highlands...
