In the book he cut his hair because the previous time he duelled in Paris (over Anelise with the bloke she would go on to marry), his hair got in his eyes and he missed.

Dollius01 · 19/05/2016 08:34

It's when they meet Anelise in Versailles that she and Jamie tell the story of the duel in the TV series.

MistressFraser · 19/05/2016 08:58

I am totally done with having babies. But I am having serious regret right now over not having a wee Jamie.

So, foolishly, I started Voyager without reading DIA and got almost half way through before making myself stop. Now I am going to have to go back and read DIA knowing that some of my favourite characters are missing, no doubt for tragic reasons. Sad. At least I know that the scene in E is coming, to get me through the dark times...

snozzlemaid · 19/05/2016 09:31

I can't wait for this mysterious scene in E you all keep talking about! On with the reading...

AKAmyself · 19/05/2016 09:58

Welcome Wildfire and I agree re the hair cutting scene. I loved it in the book - Claire comes back and finds Jamie's lovely hair all over the floor... That's how she knows hes gone duelling.

Definitely done with babies too but if ever manage to convince Dh to get a dog I'm calling it Sawney :)

I've gotten to the bit in DIA called "Prestonpans". I can't get myself to read any further. Not being British I know nothing about its history so all I know about bonny prince Charlie is from Outlander and, mark me, I hate the twat! Hope I'm not offending anyone here. how could he do that spoilery thing to Jamie! what do you mean Jamie Fraser is not real

So is the Lassies of Lallybroch thread ready!!?

wigglybeezer · 19/05/2016 11:32

I have a red haired James ( smug), I think there is still an old pic of him on my profile page, never call him Jamie mind you and he has brown eyes not blue.

MistressFraser · 19/05/2016 13:14

So Daniel Craig is out as Bond - anyone fancy SH?

MistressFraser · 19/05/2016 16:56

Have been lurking on the Bond thread, and those mean girls are saying SH is gay. Have googled and it seems not unlikely, and makes sense of a few things. Sad

Obviously if he can pretend to be an 18th century Scotsman, he can pretend to be straight. It's called acting. But tragically I did want to believe there was something behind the amazing chemistry he has with CB.

Lessstressedhemum · 19/05/2016 16:58

I'm Scottish and prince Charlie was a deluded, !misguided fop! The tragedy was that so many folk followed him for an impossible dream. It was the beginning of the end for a whole way of life and the repercussions went on for years.
I think I start crying just after Prestonpans (which was probably the high point of the whole campaign!) and keep crying until the end. Although, I cry at things about Culloden in real life, as well.

hudyerwheesht · 19/05/2016 18:59

Mistressfraser what makes it likely, what have you found?

Though I fail to see how that's an argument against him being the next Bond, if that's what the mean girls are saying...

TheHiphopopotamus · 19/05/2016 19:20

Apparently someone on the Bond thread says he went out with their friends brother. But someone else says they saw him with his girlfriend.

Tbh, he does give off a bit of a 'vibe' when he's not Jamie but it could be coz he's an actorrrr. But there have been gay rumours about just about every actor I can think of, including those who are married, so who knows? Or cares?

hudyerwheesht · 19/05/2016 19:37

I just wondered because I know DG has categorically stated he isn't and I'll be annoyed if she's claimed that just to save the popularity of the show if it's not true.
I did wonder why she felt the need to claim that, it's got nothing to do with the show, but they always want their leading men to be straight in real life don't they?

TheHiphopopotamus · 19/05/2016 19:45

There's been a rumour floating around that he was very much 'out' but as soon as he got the Outlander gig, he was very much 'in' again and 'they' wiped the entire internet of any evidence of him being gay - which seems highly unlikely but the rumours are persistent. Could be because he's never had a high profile relationship, but who knows really.

AKAmyself · 19/05/2016 19:56

tbh I'm not surprised at all, in fact I have been thinking this since the very beginning. I wrote an email to a gf after watching half of series one where i said "i'm irrationally invested in the question of whether SH and CB are together IRL, however I think it much more likely that SH and TM are together IRL!". Which would make it an even more interesting mindfuck, don't you think?

Not that it matters in any way, to be honest - I love him only as Jamie. It would make me really sad and a bit disgusted, however, if there's a PR machine at work to try and pretend otherwise.

AKAmyself · 19/05/2016 19:57

Speaking of things that are making me slightly disgusted, anyone else finding DG going around and saying the show has jumped the shark in pretty poor taste?

AKAmyself · 19/05/2016 20:04

btw just for the avoidance of doubt... when I say I love him only as Jamie.. what i mean is I fantasise about SH-as-Jamie, not as SH-whom-I'd-like-to-have-babies-with-IRL. In other words his sexuality is absolutely none of my concern and I just hope he has lots and lots of wonderful sex with whoever he pleases the lucky bastards

Hope that makes sense. I love SH and I think he's an amazing actor and hot as fuck and I'm so grateful for him giving us Jamieeeeeeeeee

pixieg1rl · 19/05/2016 20:04

I often the the absence of evidence one way makes some convinced that it has to be the other way. Heaven forbid that whatever sexual orientation he is he might just, you know, be having his own private life.

Chances are he's a) heterosexual and b) not in a relationship with Catriona Balfe, which is going to piss off 2 camps of raging nut jobs who can't accept that life comes with boundaries fans.

MistressFraser · 19/05/2016 20:05

AKA That what makes me most sad, really - that there might have been a PR decision to wipe out his past to make his casting acceptable. I suspect that if he is gay, they haven't told DG because she has been pretty vehement on the subject online.

AKAmyself · 19/05/2016 20:09

but why on earth would DG even engage on the topic? I mean imagine the scenario where a non-executive director was asked about the sexual orientation of their CEO. The only logical and honest answer would be "I don't know and it's none of my - or your business".

If she's really gone and answered, well that's pretty poor taste and frankly very odd.

AKAmyself · 19/05/2016 20:23

Dint really want to keep talking about this but google led me to this article which has probably the hottest RL SH pics out there! Be still my beating heart, I might reconsider the whole having his babies thing!

snozzlemaid · 19/05/2016 20:25

I really couldn't give a fuck. I love his work as Jamie and think he's hot but it's his own business.

wigglybeezer · 19/05/2016 20:27

I have just had to look up " jumping the shark" as it is one of those phrases I was never quite sure of the meaning of. Oh dear, I hope they haven't put in a dodgy dream sequence or something.

AKAmyself · 19/05/2016 20:27

Word, Snozzle. How are you feeling, btw?

AKAmyself · 19/05/2016 20:27

Am I the only one who would have rather enjoyed a dream sequence of Jamie, Claire and Frank driving in a car?!?

MistressFraser · 19/05/2016 20:30

Maybe, AKA Grin

I cannot in any way imagine Jamie in the 20th century - that would have been very peculiar.
