From my obsessive casual perusal of the first book, I can tell you that Jamie claims to have wanted Claire from the moment he came to after fainting off his horse (that bit in episode 1 has him looking intensely at her in the dark with those incredible blue eyes), and to have loved her from when she cried in his arms at Leoch. But I think that argument by the river in episode 9 is when he realises what it would be to lose her, and therefore how much he does love her. Not that I have thought about this overmuch or anything...

As for Claire loving Jamie, isn't it when she decides not to go back to Frank?

I completely agree with you MistressFraser. In the book they go on at length about the difference between wanting and loving. I think he wanted her from the very beginning, I think she wanted him from the moment he saw her kissing Laoghaire, but love came in those two moments you describe.

Oh bloody hell, I'm going to have to watch episode 9 ("The Reckoning") again now .....both SH and CBsaid in an interview that it was their fav scene of season 1 because they spar so well together, it was very beautiful....I've said it before, they're both powerful actors.

I'm enjoying D in A , but love the series a whole lot more.

SH and CB do have amazing chemistry. Pinterest randomly posted this picture on my feed, which I find curiously affecting because of their body language.

The later books do go on a bit, my solution was to listen to them on audible, the woman who reads them is excellent. Got me through a lot of very tedious bannister stripping and painting last summer.

Actually, I really hope they aren't. I want them to be different people to Claire & Jamie (obviously they are but there's a significant section of the fandom that really can't cope with that and them being together would just feed into their delusions that).

that is very rational pixie.... of course they're not Jamie and Claire, I guess I'm just intrigued at how you can have such an intimate, clearly emotional connection (that chemistry we're all feeling, I don't think you can act it out, can you?) with someone on screen and not have it off screen. It must be such a mindfuck

In interviews they're all giddy and SH does seem to adore her.....really hope it's true and good luck to them.

They're most definitely not together they've made that clear in interviews

My brain is about to explode, I'm jumping all over the place with Outlander. Watching season 2, reading book 3 and regularly re re re watching best bits of season 1.....anyone else doing this? We will need a help line or something when season 2 is over....a support thread?

I'm reading book 2, watching season 2. And yes constantly going back to season 1 to rewatch certain parts again and again.

I just watched that clip and I've got PMS - was almost in tears!

It was akin to the moment I decided Jamie was the Most Wonderful Male Lead Character Ever in S1 when he's trying to sleep outside Claire's room, reluctantly takes her blanket and says "I'll be right here"
I texted my friend who had tipped me off to the series saying "I LOVE him!" She had warned me that I would fall in love with the character.

I'm also all over the bloody place. Re-watching random fave bits of S1, reading book 1, watching S2 and sneak - peeking bits of DIA.
