Any better? I used to be able to embed gifs in the old days....

Drywhitethanks · 11/05/2016 22:20

Hudyer culture/torsos seems quite normal to me.

I'm a bit dim about fan fiction. Do people really read this stuff? Is it just fans online writing their own stuff about characters? Hmm

Now the Ross v Jamie has got me all confused Confused

SH smells lovely? Pixie what a lucky woman . Bet he can cook too. Think the knees are down to all the running and mountain climbing he does stalker moi?

Oh and re Spoons....I was reading on the Outlander FB page that they were common christening gifts at that time. Unusual for us bit authentic and think the fact that Jamie thought of giving something passed down in his family was sweet.

Thank you pixieg1rl

And thank you all for your warm welcome. I hold you all personally responsible for every task undone for the last fortnight. Grin

hudyerwheesht · 11/05/2016 22:47

Thank you for the knee porn pixie

Ah yes the Ross v Jamie contest. Who would win at staring moodily whilst sexily clenching jaw though because that seems to me altogether too close to call?

I'm also finding Jamie unbelievably sexy when he's angry. Remember the first fight they had when he roared at her "you'll no speak to me that way!" I was caught between being sad they were fighting and thinking my god, he's even hotter when he's angry.

In fact if he could somehow be both raging angry and shirtless simultaneously much more often...

Drywhitethanks · 11/05/2016 23:02

Pixie thanks from me too , what a lovely thing to see just before I go to sleep Smile

Remember the first fight they had when he roared at her "you'll no speak to me that way!"

Was that the one where they were near a river after they'd rescued Claire (again) from the clutches of BJR at Fort William? If so, I loved that scene. Another personal favourite was when Jamie burst into the courtroom when Claire was accused of being a witch.

So far, S2 is a bit lacking in passion although to be fair, S1 didn't start hotting up til the midway point.

Read the books, ok but not great, prefer it so far on TV , which is unusual.

In the books mainly the later ones I felt DG had swallowed a dictionary. Lots of very unusual words. I read on a kindle and looked some of them up but quite a few had no definition shown almost as if she made words up. Never had this before and I read a lot. Very odd. Has anyone else found this ? .

Drywhitethanks · 12/05/2016 07:47

I was really surprised that DG was US and abut disappointed she wasn't a Scot her knowledge ISVs good . Must be obsessed with Scotland

HipHop that's episode 9, told from Jamie's perspective...fantastic!

So it is drywhite I may have to re watch it, just to refresh my memory Wink

TheHiphopopotamus · 12/05/2016 08:44

misty I really think DG was in sore need of an editor with the later books. I got up to about 17% of The Fiery Cross and had to abandon it. It was like someone's very tedious diary, explaining every single, boring little thing had happened to them throughout the course of one unexciting, meandering day. Discussing the books on this thread made me want to re start them again, but I just can't face it.

I have read somewhere that the series of books was supposed to end at the the fourth, and then the sixth and then it's just turned into the behemoth it is today. I think DG has run out of ideas but can't let the characters go. At this rate, Claire and Jamie are going to in their 100's and still shagging like a pair of rabbits Hmm

pixieg1rl · 12/05/2016 09:03

That's exactly where I am in Fiery Cross Hiphop. Will the day never end Hmm?

Lessstressedhemum · 12/05/2016 09:11

I quite like the later books, save for Claire's endless wittering. A lot happens in them and there is a lot of character growth.

Misty, some of the words she uses, like clishmaklaver for instance, are Scottish. That one means the same as stramash, so a ruckus or similar.

MistressFraser · 12/05/2016 09:11

So which book should I stop at, for maximum Jamie and Claire enjoyment. I hate having to abandon a book.

TheHiphopopotamus · 12/05/2016 09:40

pixie Grin I know! It feels like it won't.

mistress I rather enjoyed the books leading up to The Fiery Cross, the plots seemed a lot tighter, but the focus isn't always on Claire and Jamie and I can't care about some of the lesser characters that DG brings in (naming no names but LJ) although I did like R and I Wink. They don't always go in the direction I would have hoped either.

I'll be honest though, I've no idea what the books are like past The Fiery Cross as I couldn't get past DG's description of the interminable Gathering in the first few chapters (aka as the longest day in the History of the World).

pixieg1rl · 12/05/2016 09:43

I quite liked LJ, although not enough to read any of his books. I like R, and I but am less enamoured of B who has some of the more annoying qualities of Claire.

TheHiphopopotamus · 12/05/2016 09:47

Same! B is a whiny pain in the arse. pixie I'm going to send you a DM because it's a huge spoiler but I've got to say it to someone.

AKAmyself · 12/05/2016 11:29

Morning all. Having a shitty day and keep coming back here to cheer myself up :)

Is it Sunday morning yet? I need my fix!

hudyerwheesht · 12/05/2016 11:36

Yes, thehipho, that's the scene. I never thought that in an argument where a man is angry at his wife for not obeying him that I would be on the man's side!
Brilliant scene.
"you're tearing my guts out Claire"

AKAmyself · 12/05/2016 11:38

i had a quick peek at episode 6 spoilers, and from what I can see from the screenshots that are circulating it will be heavy on the Jamie/St Germain. There are worse things in life, i s'ppse

AKAmyself · 12/05/2016 11:40

That is my favourite scene of the whole series so far. Just amazing down to the final words ("you filthy mouthed whore", I think) and Jamie's subsequent crumbling at the violence of his words. I think this is the moment he knew he loved her. Unbelievably good acting from both of them, btw

TheHiphopopotamus · 12/05/2016 12:10

It was 'you foul mouthed bitch!' Not that I know it by heart or anything Wink

I think it was anyway. I can watch it again for the purposes of this discussion if you like?

AKAmyself · 12/05/2016 12:14

No you're right, Hip! Much better :)
Love love love that scene. The look of horror on Jamie's face when those words are out and he realises he's gone too far... The way he just collapses afterwards... Just perfect

TheHiphopopotamus · 12/05/2016 12:16

I think this is the moment he knew he loved her

Speaking of which, when do we think Claire fell in love Jamie?

AKAmyself · 12/05/2016 12:57

When he took off his kilt!

Ahem, no, but seriously. I think it's when he believed her story of time travel. I think it was then she realised the bond between them was otherworldly... And hence she didn't go back to frank.
