But knees. And kilts. And manly jaw lines

Go for this! Every time! I'm sorry, but I'm just not understanding your dilemma Grin

SenecaFalls · 11/05/2016 17:40

Actually, I think some of the later books are better written than the earlier ones and SPOILER ALERT, there is actually quite a bit of happiness. They are still together after all, in their 60s, and as sexually active as ever.

Drywhitethanks · 11/05/2016 18:06

Evening all. Just caught up. What great discussions dreams that SH and CB are lurking

Mistress I was like you. Adored the romance of season 1, hadn't read the books. But.......just couldn't resist seeing more of Jamie in a kilt finding out whtat happens to them and am now skim reading the books Shock

I'm actually surprised at how any lines are exactly as they appear in the books in this season in the better scenes

Who mentioned the Poldark spoiler?I know what you're hinting at having read all the books and watched the original series when I was but a wee lassie ofcourse and really hope they don't put that in the show but suspect they will I won't be able to get over it Sad sod Damelza's reaction Grin

The thing is, as I said before, happy ever after doesn't make good drama does it? sadly I'm assuming that they weather all storms though.

I think those of us who dislike Frank do so because of Jamie. He's not so bad in isolation I guess, although a bit patronising.

I adore CB.

And I've finally resolved the Jamie Fraser v Jon Snow sword fight dilemma......I'm backing Jamie sorry JS because of the height advantage. I've spent weeks pondering this first world issue Grin

Actually, sorry Ross, but I'd back Jamie over you too.

Something I was thinking about earlier was the importance of swordsmanship at that time. If a modern man went back in time to 18c he'd be totally impotent due to his lack of skill and ability to protect himself. How on earth would you manage? or perhaps people weren't all that violent IRL

Glad we've done our work well mistressFraser.

Hmm, all this discussion of the misery DG puts her characters through has got me wondering if there's a book (I'm at number 5) where someone doesn't get raped or sexually assaulted. So far it's a no.

But yes to kilts and knees

AKAmyself · 11/05/2016 18:46

Hello, MistressFraser! and welcome to the Jamie Fraser appreciation society :)

I feel a little bit like this about series one. I think it was golden and if I could stop and keep rewatching it ad nauseam I would. But i'm just too invested, theres no way I could ever stay away...

It was me who mentioned the Poldark thing, Drywhite, because the only thing better than an obsession is a crossover obsession :D I can dm my musings, really don't want to go into too spoilery a direction here.

Btw, lassies, I must tell you that this whole thread is starting to get a distinct feeling of Twilight ca 2010... It all started innocently enough with a thread in Adult fiction I , which turned into 100 increasingly deranged threads, which turned into a 3 year fanfic obsession. It was one of the best times of my life and am still friends with the wonderful nutters who hung out there :D

AKAmyself · 11/05/2016 18:53

it really depends on the rules of the contest though, surely...

Sword, knife, fists: Jamie, no contest
Horse racing, dubious financial schemes: Ross, for sure
Evading capture by the men of the law: a tie
Gazing in the distance while shirtless: Ross
Capacity to bring a woman to the edge of orgasm with just a look and a flash of the old knees: Jamie

snozzlemaid · 11/05/2016 19:42

Ability to unlace a ladies dress - a tie

pixieg1rl · 11/05/2016 19:48

One of my MN friends met Sam Heughan a couple of days ago with only a mild bit of stalking. She said he was lovely and smelt AMAZING. Sadly she didn't get a chance to molest his knees.

snozzlemaid · 11/05/2016 19:56

Lucky thing.
As we're also talking about Poldark, I met Aidan Turner a couple of years ago when they were filming the first series near to where I live. He was gorgeous but I didn't think about smelling him! Will remember that if I'm ever lucky enough to meet another famous, hot man.

AKAmyself · 11/05/2016 20:39

Pixie I am irrationally delighted to have confirmation that SH smells amazing. I wonder if your mate would mind very much to come on here and describe his smell in detail tell us a bit more?

(that's not going to get us in the Daily Mail, is it?)

pixieg1rl · 11/05/2016 20:42

The full write up is on the Our Girl thread (with photo). I have tasked her with finding out what aftershave he wears so I can spray myself with it at the perfume counter.

AKAmyself · 11/05/2016 20:45

which section is the Our Girl thread in

pixieg1rl · 11/05/2016 20:48

Telly section

Jane054848 · 11/05/2016 21:05

Aka, hilarious post re the contest!

Mistress Fraser, definitely keep going. There is a lot of love and happiness amidst the improbable drama in the later books. And book Jamie is still massively hot in his 50s.

Reverting to s2 - so pleased Jamie's hair has improved! I also find him sooo sexy when he is angry. And I have a feeling he's about to be very angry indeed.

AKAmyself · 11/05/2016 21:08

for those who've read the books, are there any upcoming plot developments that necessitate Jamie taking off his shirt at regular intervals? i though Dougal's Jacobite campaign was a stroke of pure genius :D

What, you mean I was meant to feel sorry for the lad in those scenes?

MistressFraser · 11/05/2016 21:16

I'm blaming you all for not getting anything done for the rest of the week...

AKAmyself · 11/05/2016 21:20

Youre welcome mistressFraser :D

Jane054848 · 11/05/2016 21:26

I feel they are being unnecessarily stingy with shirtless Sam in this series. It would be perfectly plausible for all their boring discussions about politics to take place while Jamie was dressing/ undressing/ in the bath.

So in all the books there are many situations where he could be semi clothed but fewer where he has to be. They just need to learn to err on the side of shirtlessness.

AKAmyself · 11/05/2016 21:34

They just need to learn to err on the side of shirtlessness

Best part of my day :)

Lessstressedhemum · 11/05/2016 21:54

That's what I meant, Hippo. His love for Brianna is the only decent thi g about him. Otherwise he is a racist misogynist adulterer, who knows the truth about Jamie but doesn't let on.!!!!

MistressFraser · 11/05/2016 21:55

pixieg1rl I can't make that link work. Will it sweeten my dreams as I go to bed?

hudyerwheesht · 11/05/2016 21:59

Grinat erring on the side of shirtlessness.

Thing is, I would have no idea what was going on with all that torso on show. I wasn't kidding up thread when I said I had no idea what was said in the knees scene as I was transfixed and thinking how I'd missed them!

I love that thread has gone from serious discussion about the culture and education of 18th century Scots to who would win in a fight between James Fraser and Ross Poldark, just in the few hours since I saw it last.
That's why I love this thread.

hudyerwheesht · 11/05/2016 22:01

Ahh, I see lessstressed, I was thinking of book 1 as I've only read (most of) that...
