I think they've tried to bring modern elements into Claire's wardrobe this season. The white coat and black hat outfit was based on Dior's New Look from the 50's. With the red dress I think a straight across neckline would have been better, rather than the navel slash, JLo neckline it actually had.

hudyerwheesht · 17/04/2016 17:14

Oh the Dior-inspired white coat was gorgeous!
I can tell I'm going to be distracted a lot this series with all these costumes.

AttitcusFinchIsMyFather · 17/04/2016 17:40

Wow, Sophie Skelton is perfect for that part! (sorry, a few pages behind).

AttitcusFinchIsMyFather · 17/04/2016 17:57

Alex looked a lot like Jack, I actually had to check if they were related in real life!

Master Raymond and his shop were brlliant, just what I expected.

So many funny bits! I didn't expect them to do the nipple dress on TV - their faces said everything you needed to know Grin

AttitcusFinchIsMyFather · 17/04/2016 17:57

Oh, and Jamie's discomfort at seeing his old girlfriend haha!

hudyerwheesht · 17/04/2016 18:29

What a great name AtticusFinchIsMyFather

Those who've read the books, is there big changes so far in this season? I keep reading bits and pieces that would suggest so. I know you can't say what they are, was just wondering...

Drywhitethanks · 17/04/2016 18:32

Bother, I was a bit disappointed Sad but will watch again later to make sure Grin
Great to see Jamie with pony tail, swoon and Claire again. Murtagh is great as ever. Lovely chemistry. Think the nightmares about Randall were v good.

I cannot believe that Jack survived the Highland cattle trammelling Hmm what does it take to kill the bugger? Confused

It was just a bit farcical for me takes 18C France v seriously. The finance minister in the lake was just silly. 18C French court wasa much more sinister place, hope it gets a bit more serious when the Count comes in.
Some. Funny bits though.

Agree the dress was stunning on CB and, you're right, quite modern, not authentic e nough for me boo and too short. I think her friend's froufrou number was better. Agree about the Dior inspired Jack t/dress combo, beautiful.

Was Bonny Prince Charlie really such a twit?

I miss Scotland and their intimacy but am hopeful that France will improve and am looking forward to the pregnancy bits.

Sorry for being negative, love this show so much.

I had already read,on the other thread I think, that we had not seen the last of BJR so I wasn't surprised though I said the same thing, is, how on earth is he not dead?!

Agree that it seemed farcical, definitely. I was just constantly thinking were they really this bonkers?! It's seemed a bit too much like a parady.

Oh yes forgot the dress was so short - she looked like a lampshade. The matching shoes were beautiful though.

Drywhitethanks · 17/04/2016 19:20

Hudyer glad to hear it's not just me. Think it will get better when Jamie gets his mojo back . Beautiful nevertheless,. They seemed to do Scotland very authentically and not parody it, France just looks farcical, but perhaps that's because I know it better than Scotland.
Perhaps it's a bit of light relief after Wentworth and the traumatic first episode with Claire going back to the future.

ShowOfHands · 17/04/2016 19:29

I think it's struggling because it's having to introduce a raft of new characters quickly and in an entirely new society. New key players, new rules. I think it'll improve when they're properly into the action.

Loved Master Raymond and his apothecary. Looking forward to seeing the hospital too.

TheHiphopopotamus · 17/04/2016 19:30

I think the thing with BJR is that he probably was dead when DG finished the first book. I'm sure I read somewhere that there wasn't going to be a sequel, and so the first book wrapped everything up (in a way. BJR got his comeuppance but other 'strands' were left unexplained).

I prefer it when they're in Scotland as well. The scenery is almost like another character but I suppose the French court has provided some light relief. I imagine it's going to get darker as the series progresses.

Drywhitethanks · 17/04/2016 19:39

Yes TheHiphop i think you are right.

Jamie did look fab with a pony tail.....may have to take a screen shot of that bit to keep with my picture of Ross Grin

Thank you Dry.
Poldark has always been my first fictional love as I'm from Cornwall, but Jamie is up there with him at the moment.

TheHiphopopotamus · 17/04/2016 20:47

Mmm, thanks! Blush Grin

Hopefully Poldark will start up just as Outlander finishes wishful thinking

snozzlemaid · 17/04/2016 20:58

Think we've got to wait until September for Poldark I'm afraid.

Drywhitethanks · 17/04/2016 21:00

And I've just had another thought....how the heck is Claire going to maintain her Brazilian in Scotland? Hmm Mrs Fitz? Shock

OP posts:
OohMavis · 17/04/2016 21:19

She did help design the dress, and she is from the future, so y'know. The book described the Red Dress as impossibly low cut, but tbh Claire seems to struggle at the best of times at keeping her nips in her bodice, such was the fashion for dresses for ladies in most parts of the world at that time, so I suppose they felt they had to go further to achieve the proper wow factor it needed.

pixieg1rl · 17/04/2016 21:37

Do you think Claire will maintain the Brazilian? (I'm laid up in bed with something I caught off the child so haven't watched how they've done this.) In the book I don't remember Jamie being a fan (although iirc Claire didn't get that done, just legs & pits). Will Claire being doing lots of itching in episode 3 when it starts growing back? Maybe M Raymond will flog her something to dull it

TheHiphopopotamus · 17/04/2016 21:40

I know she's from the future and all, but did the really have dresses quite so low cut in the 1940's? Confused Although, you're right about Claire having trouble keeping her boobs under control Grin

I can't remember the description of the dress in the book, that must have been one of the bits I speed read Grin It did make me laugh this morning in the series, when Louise (?) said 'We're going to Versailles!' and then Claire appeared in the dress that she 'helped design'. Wouldn't it have taken weeks to make a dress back then, even with Claire's 'help'?

TheHiphopopotamus · 17/04/2016 21:42

Yes, she only did legs and pits in the book and Jamie couldn't understand why.

Also remember a lot of the use of the word 'oxter' in DIA. No idea what it meant either and couldn't be arsed to look it up.

Drywhitethanks · 17/04/2016 21:53

Watching it again....enjoying it more. Mutt agh is quite brilliant isn't he? Really love Jamie. The while "honeypot" " beautiful forest" bit is so funny

OP posts:
Drywhitethanks · 17/04/2016 21:54

That would be Murtagh of course Smile

OP posts:
snozzlemaid · 17/04/2016 22:24

Oxter is armpit apparently.

TheHiphopopotamus · 17/04/2016 22:33

snozzle thank you!

I had an inkling it was that but wasn't sure.
