That was great!!! Loved it, great acting, and brilliant actors, the women in this are fantastic.

Looking forward to next week

Oh can anyone tell me what the guy John was in, I know I know him but can't think from where.

Reckon Frances is one of those nutters who befriends dangerous men in prison. The cast was amazing - stuffed with great actors, with Harry Potter and Downton somewhat over-represented Wink.

He was in Downton! All the new parts are played by too-familiar faces.......

Omg! Somewhat shell-shocked after all that. Did anybody else miss bits of SLs dialogue due to her muttering?

Blimmin eck. Roll on next week! Just shows that second series don't have to be a patience stretching retread. Agree re familiar faces (and I can't bear Shirley Henderson) but the writing and acting is the best on the box.

The woman who died was the wife (Helen?) of Nevison Gallagher - it was their daughter Ann who was kidnapped in series 1.

So happy this is back!

Ah, that's where we've seen John before - Downton's manservant-turned-teacher!

Also a full on Rita/Bob hug :)

I like the potential love interest for Claire, I hope he's a goodun.

Yes StillStaying - better that than doing god knows what to get the £1,000 a month for Vicky. If I were writing that episode I would have had Vicky hire a male escort to do certain things with John and take pics of them. I know they wouldn't have been able to show the pics but the script could have referred to what was in the pics.

I think Claire's love interest is going to be a 'wrong'un' something about the way he looked at Catherine when she took her coat off.

Yes to Frances being a pen-pal nutter groupie for prisoners. I reckon he new PCSO will rescue whoever Francis kidnaps. Also recon she had a dead body in that suitcase....I've been watching too much crime drama on tele Grin

I agree no73 he was also a bit vague about why he'd left his job at the building society.

Agree about Claire's love interest, Neil.

I think the upcoming episodes will heavily feature Nev's ex-employee (him from Harry Potter and The Syndicate) and have him in the frame for the murders but it won't be him is my guess.

Ooh, Prince Andrei! I hadn't made the connection before.

And the Neil character (Claire's old schoolfriend), what has he been in?

Not sure if the white van man driving past when Catherine was talking to the prostitutes is a red herring or not?? I feel one if not both of those ladies will end up dead with bottles in places they shouldn't have been.

MorrisZapp · 09/02/2016 22:53

Him from Harry Potter says she! He's a handsome sergeant in the latest Ripper Street I'll have you know.

Clawdy · 09/02/2016 22:54

Think Claire's new friend gave Catherine an odd look because he saw her police badge. He's probably been in prison.

LizzieMacQueen · 09/02/2016 22:57

I thought prison too. Probably for fraud, if he worked at a building society.

GypsyFl0ss · 10/02/2016 05:56

There was a moment when the younger prostitute called SL's character "Mrs" Cawood and it was very poignant. It just made her seem so young.

I thought it was a fab start with lots of story setting.
Yes to the new love interest being concerned when he saw the police badge on SL's top. And definite yes to Frances being a prisoner groupie... She was that close to Tommy she could have licked him!

oh Nev, just realised

Oh I think Neil's got some secret relating to leaving the building society, I mean I hope he's not a dodgy woman hating nutter.

Neil was in Cucumber and Dancin' Thru the Dark.

I think Neil was also in some relationship drama thing in the early noughties, a bit like Cold Feet? He has a very distinctive voice.
