Just saw the trailer for a new series of this - can't wait! Smile

Subtitles ladies :)

Darryl didn't confess to killing The prositutes - just that he had done something

Mum trying to give him a way out saying voices told him to do it but he said no

I wonder if Claire's BF has a few drinking blackouts and murders them and doesn't remember

Don't think it's the white van man - the employee - he seemed shocked that Dna was in the van

We assume it's a man doing it but maybe is a woman hence no sperm and a bottle shoved up their bits

Will Vickys real killer (policeman) get caught

Ryan an ungrateful bugger not wanting the pressie from catherine

Catherine is saying he's not Ryan's dad / but he was right saying he is tho

But is he? No dna tests have been done

Blondeshavemorefun · 10/03/2016 23:52

limited waves :) agree with you. Sure Tommy has always said he didn't rape Catherine's daughter

I think they had consensual sex. She got preg. He wasn't ready to be a dad. She killed herself

Tho her brother said she was always hanging about with rough crowd so maybe not his son

blood splattered window was good

Yes ANN will work out her boss was Vickys killer

Blondes I took it that Daryl had killed them but I could be wrong. It could have been a red herring.

His mum was definitely clutching at straws that 'voices' told him. That's what Peter Sutcliffe claimed. He's been mentioned once or twice. But still Daryl would end up serving life in a secure psychiatric hospital. Someone who ends up there - like Ian Brady - is never going to get out. I think Peter Sutcliffe has been reassessed and he's now in a regular prison. But he's never going to get out either. Good.

Also Sutcliffe and Brady have their groupies - that's also been referenced with Tommy. Tommy is a lot more attractive, so I can definitely see that happening.

I once met a Sutcliffe groupie. A very attractive woman in her mid-30s who'd moved near to his prison so she could visit him. She wouldn't say whether she thought he was guilty. She said he needed love Confused. She became furious when reminded there were other groupies, so I didn't pursue that line...

SoupDragon · 11/03/2016 07:00

Is it certain that the mother shot Daryl and not herself?

Gruach · 11/03/2016 07:07

She wouldn't do that to him!Shock

What? Leave him all by himself in a world he could scarcely navigate even with her constant support?

Nah ...

southeastdweller · 11/03/2016 07:19

I notice Daryl and his mum don't feature in the trailer for the finale. I guess she's killed herself after killing him.

SoupDragon · 11/03/2016 07:22

Leave him all by himself in a world he could scarcely navigate even with her constant support?

If she believes he murdered the women, she probably thinks she's been doing a shit job of supporting him.

BlueThursday · 11/03/2016 07:59

The shot gun would be too long for her to kill herself with, you'd need it sawn or a handgun

whatamidoinghereanyway · 11/03/2016 08:15

Daryl could have felt the gun in his neck and turned it on his Mother as we saw no struggle, leaving him alive to explain what happened with the women.

I can't believe there aren't more episodes there could be so much more! S. Wainwrights writing is often ambiguous though reflecting the nature of how humans perceive events from their own perspective.

LillianGish · 11/03/2016 08:16

If Daryll had turned the gun on his mum the blood would have splattered the wall behind her not the window.

pigeonpoo · 11/03/2016 08:25

Unless they swung round in a struggle...

LillianGish · 11/03/2016 08:30

Agree with PP who said it was a pure Of Mice and Men moment - right down to Daryll describing his hopes and dreams to his mum. She will go to police - they have his DNA, crashed car etc, but there will be some vital clue to show he could not have killed Molesley's girlfriend.

SoupDragon · 11/03/2016 09:14

The shot gun would be too long for her to kill herself with

I'm not convinced about this. I'm sure they've done it in other TV shows and films.

Regardless, it's just another one of those unclear moments where we've made a assumption about what happens.

Blondeshavemorefun · 11/03/2016 09:28

I think mum killed him and his last thoughts and dreams of USA and last supper well breakie means he died happy

But I don't think he killed the woman

Agree too long to kill herself

CurrerBell · 11/03/2016 10:28

Interesting theory that it could be a woman... Their first 'suspect' was Catherine and the first victim was TLR's mother... perhaps something personal going on... TLR hated his mother, didn't he? Not sure what the significance of the other victims are though.

I don't think it was Daryl. He cracked under pressure (when he attacked the bullies) but he didn't seem like he was capable of premeditated serial murder. He had a kind of meltdown in the police cell when they wanted to take his fingerprints. He struck me as quite a vulnerable person.

He may have been involved somehow or feel he was to blame for the women being 'hurt'. But he didn't actually admit to killing them.

absolutelynotfabulous · 11/03/2016 11:02

Was Catherine ever really a "suspect" though? I thought her having to alibi herself was more procedural than anything else. What motive would Catherine have had to kill Lynn?

However, I'm not completely convinced by Catherine, somehow. I don't know if it's just holes in the writing, or red herrings. Why is she so convinced that TLR is Ryan's father? TLR himself wasn't aware he even had a son!

I'm not convinced either about the Scalextric incident and Catherine's handling of it. What was the point of freaking out in front of Ryan? She could simply have taken it to forensics, had it examined/destroyed, replaced it with another and Ryan wouldn't have been any the wiser.

I also think there's a link to the mutilated sheep and Daryl (and/or his mother). Could Daryl have mutilated the sheep? Is that what his mother meant when she asked "did you hurt them?" Did the mother actually mention "women"?

southeastdweller · 11/03/2016 11:05

Yes she mentioned women in the first conversation she had with him in her bedroom.

absolutelynotfabulous · 11/03/2016 11:17

Thanks south. I still don't quite believe he killed them, though. I don't want it to end like that! He won't even stand trial. I want a massive twist. Boo.

Northernexile · 11/03/2016 12:27

Just joining in here to say that I thought Daryl freaked out about giving the fingerprints because he had killed the women. Also I think Neil didn't do it, but that he might now get wrongfully arrested for it after arousing suspicions because he went off on one last week and his connections to Vicky will come out now probably. Especially if Daryl's mum has killed herself or doesn't report Daryl's death. The police will probably arrive there really the gbh incident on the bullies, find them both dead and realise it wasn't Neil after all. Meanwhile Clare and Catherine are falling out over Neil etc etc. Not sure on the Halifax mafia and their role though.

LillianGish · 11/03/2016 16:35

I think Daryll killed the women - we were thrown off the scent by his being portrayed as a victim, but once we got a glimpse in the boot of his car I was sure it was him. The twist is that he didn't kill Moseley's girlfriend and how will this come out. Themurdered prostitutes has always been a bit of a side plot to my way of thinking - it was there so Catherine could be suspected of of killing TLR's mum and therefore give him more reason to have it in for her via the teaching assistant and so Molesley could conceal his murder (a much more interesting plot - especially when he came home and found his wife in bed with another man and realised it had all been for nothing).

Clawdy · 11/03/2016 16:42

For the first time I find myself disliking a character played by Julie Hesmondhalgh. The wife role just hasn't worked for me - at no time have we seen much of her other than scowling in the kitchen or looking grim as John rants at her. There's been no real attempt to flesh out the character, and I think that's a fault with the otherwise excellent writing.

Gruach · 11/03/2016 17:48

Oh HURRAH! Exactly what I've been meaning to say for ages - but I never managed to get round to checking the spelling of Julie H's name with being destracted and wandering off.

She's a stupendous actress but I've been really flummoxed about her character in this. Partly because I'm more aware of theatre than TV and she's been in a rather serious role recently - quite "straight" rather than the exaggerated piling on of trouble in this series - I've found it hard to adjust. But also because, as you say Clawdy, we've only seen her cross - there's been no colour or shade. It's all a bit cartoon-ish.

Chippednailvarnish · 11/03/2016 18:33

Where's Catherine's ex husband gone? Weren't they sleeping together?

absolutelynotfabulous · 11/03/2016 18:46

Yes, they were sleeping together. He hasn't been seen yet in Series 2. No mention of him either which is rather a shame as I thought he was really fit

ILikeToClean · 11/03/2016 18:51

Just struck me when you all mentioned the killer being a woman - it's not Frances is it?!
