Just saw the trailer for a new series of this - can't wait! Smile

I still think there's something dodgy about Nevison, and perhaps his daughter. I can't see much point to them in this series if they're not part of the plot. However, if the perpetrator is not Daryl, there's going to be an awful lot to squeeze in to the final episode, including why it is that Neil is so dodgy.

I hope it's not a disappointment like Shetland.

Gruach · 09/03/2016 21:17

Sorry - meant to say, the only thing I'm finding slightly annoying is the sheer number of already familiar actors appearing in this.

It must be intolerable for anyone who watches a lot of TV to see the same faces constantly re-appearing in different guises.

southeastdweller · 09/03/2016 21:32

I don't understand why the cops haven't yet traced Vicky's phone activity re John?

And I agree that it's annoying have so many familiar faces in this show. Then again, with Amelia Bullmore, she did such a fantastic job as the unhinged Vicky I'd forgotten all about her Gill Murray by the time the first episode of this series had started.

absolutelynotfabulous · 09/03/2016 21:59

south I think the bald cop has already mentioned John having Vicky's number in his phone (or hers, I can't remember), but it doesn't seem to have gone further. I find that odd, too, particularly as the lifestyle of the other victims is so different from Vicky's.

Another thing I found odd was the length of time it took Catherine and the family to make the link between the Scalextric, TLR's girlfriend and Ryan.

pigeonpoo · 09/03/2016 22:08

I think corries becky already suspects or knows it's John but is playing the long game to nail him once and for all with Vicky

I suspect there's a covert operation as she already realises there's insider knowledge from details on Vickys murder.

They probably just don't want John to know he's caught until they have everything they need so keeping the investigation going to trick him up

SunnySomer · 09/03/2016 22:58

I think that's what Ann is for: she knew John was having an affair before, and she's demonstrated that she's good at joining up the dots... So somehow she will have a convo with the female detective (v impressed that you all remember all the names) and work out his culpability.

polyhymnia · 10/03/2016 00:04

Who is corrie's becky???

Gruach · 10/03/2016 05:49

I'm wondering who Vicky might have sent the photos to for safekeeping. Because really, if you're going to use photos for blackmail you wouldn't trust just your phone and laptop would you? I'd have sent paper copies to a friend or colleague with instructions not to open the package unless ... So perhaps next week we'll see the return of some friend who's been away on retreat somewhere with a switched off phone.

What else? Would the location of John's road accident put him in the frame for her murder - if the woman he nearly collided with decides to enquire further?

I don't remember names - so I'll call them Bald Cucumber Detective and Corrie Becky Detective - was his mentioning of Higher up Visiting Policeman being her Dad a sly dig at how the police force works if you're female or potentially significant in terms of how the murders will be solved?

Optimist1 · 10/03/2016 06:51

poly - "corrie's becky" is the female detective played by Katherine Kelly. (She played a character called Becky in Coronation Street some years ago).

LillianGish · 10/03/2016 11:18

Rather late to the thread, but I see a few Mnetters I know on here (waves to Gruach) Can someone please tell me how Francis became involved with TLR (didn't see first series - not sure if that is relevant) For what it's worth I've thought farm boy was the killer ever since a few episodes back when there was mention of what killer would have in the boot of his car (inc rope) and then the next scene featured farm boy opening boot to reveal said equipment). Loving it - don't want it to be the last episode. Not sure how murdering policeman can be wrapped up so quickly which makes me wonder if there will be another series

drspouse · 10/03/2016 11:27

They haven't said how she met him. We aren't sure if she knew him before somehow or if she is a nutter that writes to prisoners and imagines they are in love with them.

I too am hoping for another series.

limitedperiodonly · 10/03/2016 11:27

I'd have sent paper copies to a friend or colleague with instructions not to open the package unless ...

Sensible plan Gruach. However it reminds me that I was at college in the early 80s with someone who said he was an SAS officer who'd infiltrated the IRA and if anything should happen to him a package was waiting in his solicitor's safe...

Funnily enough, we didn't believe him.

pigeonpoo · 10/03/2016 11:28

We don't know how Frances got involved with TLR from the series but in the actress interviews she's alluded to her just being drawn to the bad boy persona - probably religious nut who wrote to him in prison offering forgiveness and then "fell" for him

Gruach · 10/03/2016 11:36

As far as I remember Frances didn't appear in the first series. So we've been left to speculate and assume that she's an unusually besotted writer of letters to violent prisoners. I don't think they've suggested any prior relationship.

Perhaps she saw his face in the paper, or even in court during his trial, and decided it was true love - or, given all the praying and icons, that she could save him by climbing all over him.

Will be fascinating to see just how far she's prepared to go.

Gruach · 10/03/2016 13:34

And here's a piece of the BBC site on TLR, prison visitors and the thread from the first to the second series. Spoiler-free.

They say pretty much what we've been saying here - though I certainly missed the significance of his tattoos!

hollyisalovelyname · 10/03/2016 16:59

I'm so disappointed with Moseley. Smile

CrystalMcPistol · 10/03/2016 17:00

Miss Baxter would have a thing or two to say to him.

pigeonpoo · 10/03/2016 19:34

Well tonight's viewing is boring in comparison... Any suggestions worth watching tonight? Eastenders

absolutelynotfabulous · 10/03/2016 19:57

Ummmm....Happy Valley on catchup? Last chance, apparently!

I'm shamelessly watching Series 1 again just in case I missed a bit. Steve Pemberton is bril as dodgy vengeful accountantSmile

Aworldofmyown · 10/03/2016 20:29

Ooooh, how are you watching the first series? Didi you purchase it?

absolutelynotfabulous · 10/03/2016 20:37

I bought it for myself for Mothers' DayBlush. £7 in Sainsbury's. Best seven quid I've ever spentGrin.

ProfGrammaticus · 10/03/2016 20:37

If Darylmis is the killer of the other women, surely it's harder now to nail John for Vicky's murder, without the killer of the others being there to say he didn't kill Vicky?

ProfGrammaticus · 10/03/2016 20:37

wtf autocorrect?

ILikeToClean · 10/03/2016 21:02

Interesting theory that the female detective is on to John, hadn't occurred to me but could be the case.

Might take them some time to nail Daryl for the murders, they aren't on to him yet, just checking out cars etc. Depends on how the mum deals with her son's body etc, or will she have topped herself too?

OP posts:
limitedperiodonly · 10/03/2016 21:58

I suppose the photos of Molesley will surface somewhere.

I guess Daryl's mum will either kill herself or confess immediately. Today's ruling on the mercy killing murder is interesting.

But she wouldn't be able to argue that, so she's looking at 15 years at least
