Just saw the trailer for a new series of this - can't wait! Smile

SH is one of those actors who talks in a hideous fake Scottish accent, despite actually being Scottish.

See also every English actor playing 'British' in an American series.

I love James Norton but he doesn't convince in this. He just looks posh. He radiates health, education and breeding. His accent is pretty good but coming so soon after WAP and running alongside Grantchester, it's a no.

I saw him first in the first series of this, and I haven't seen either WAP or Grantchester (ShockI know!) so he's pretty convincing to me. Definitely menacing. He went to school in Yorkshire so his accent passes muster for me too

The80sweregreat · 03/03/2016 15:59

I have never seen james Norton in anything before either and new to Happy Valley ( although I might buy series one now)
he is so lush.. I know it sounds shallow and he is so much more younger than me, but there is definitely 'something about him'. he was on with Robson green talking about Grantchester on the one show - I only tuned in for him as not a fan of Robson ( well, not since his casualty days) and seems a bit fake to me..( and he dumped his wife or something years ago and took up with a supermodel!) James is lovely. I do like this series, its very realistic, even if I struggle to understand Shirley hendersons mumble and have to put the subtitles on.. getting old obviously. Sarah Lancashire is brilliant too.

squoosh · 03/03/2016 16:06

The80s I saw a bit of the One Show last night. Firstly, James Norton is so luscious. But we all know that! But I spent most of the time cringing at Robson Green, his luvvie accent is so affected!

The80sweregreat · 03/03/2016 17:49

Squoosh, whats with Robson's accent? It is awful. At least James seems normal. I really dont like him..! ( sad, i ve never met him)

hollyisalovelyname · 03/03/2016 19:04

I find it difficult to hear what they are sayingBlush

Gwenhwyfar · 03/03/2016 20:03

"
Yes I think we all agree that the farmer boy is the murderer"

No way. He had no idea what the police were talking about when he was accused of those murders. He's a bit dim, not a murderer.

I admit I was completely wrong about Frances having killed TLR's mother though.

ILikeToClean · 03/03/2016 20:08

Gwen - the person they questioned and accused was the one who worked for Ann's dad, don't think he did it. The farmer boy is the one who was being bullied by the other boys and then took a hammer to one of them.

Maybe farmer boy is a big red herring, that shot of the rope in the boot was a bit obvious. My money's on John.

iminshock · 04/03/2016 07:14

"SH is one of those actors who takes in a hideously fake Scottish accent despite being actually Scottish "

Well put Morriszap. Why do they do that ? It's all over the place.

John Hannah does it in just about everything. My ( Scottish ) kids refer to these irritating voice styles as " drama school Scottish "

Chocolatteaddict1 · 04/03/2016 07:45

clawdy is that SL sisters new bloke?

I starting to think so too

southeastdweller · 04/03/2016 07:52

I still think it's Neil, the boyfriend of Claire. They're making it too obvious it's either the farmer's son or Sean.

diddl · 04/03/2016 07:55

But if it's Neil, you'd think that he would have killed Vicky!

Who else would have access to the white van that Sean drives?

Chocolatteaddict1 · 04/03/2016 08:10

Maybe he wasn't brave enough so used prositutes as a substitute.

I thought him breaking down to Claire about it was odd.

Clawdy · 04/03/2016 09:33

Still think it could be John. That strangling of Vicky seemed almost instinctive.

Gruach · 04/03/2016 10:44

I haven't really been considering John for the other murders - on the other hand, strangling someone (and the rest) isn't the most obvious or natural thing to do - even if someone has massively pissed you off and threatened your domestic security. The trouble with TV drama is that everything is so exaggerated - it's impossible to judge what's natural to a character and what's just there to amp up the tension.

I'd be sad if it's Neil. Claire deserves a little happiness. Though she probably could do better for herself ...

Myredcardigan · 04/03/2016 10:57

If it's Neil then he's probably doing to prostitutes what he wanted to do to Vicky. Maybe it was her actual death that caused him to break down to Claire. I don't think it's John. He seemed too pleased with himself when the pathologist told the other copper that yes, she thought it was the same murderer.

Myredcardigan · 04/03/2016 10:58

And I don't think the rope was obvious. I missed it first time and had to watch it back after reading it on here.

Gruach · 04/03/2016 12:55

It's definitely Daryl - that was the point of beginning the series with the "comedy" (relatively) incident of his sheep being harassed (stolen/killed?)+ the dogs poisoned. The writing is very tight so that wouldn't have been there for no reason.

CandOdad · 04/03/2016 15:12

Wouldn't they have more than just "your number was in her phone" with John?
Wouldn't it be more like "phone records show you were in contact daily (you weird nutter)"

Cocolepew · 04/03/2016 15:47

Has it been mentioned about semen being found (sorry)? because I've decided its the farming mum.

Oooh Coco - now that is a very very interesting opinion indeed.
I wonder if you could be right?

Still not sure what all the Halifax mafia/man dead in tree/Winnie et al has to do with the main serial killer plot.
Can't work out how it all links up.

But I do like your theory Coco...

Chocolatteaddict1 · 04/03/2016 16:25

I think John might have planned it from telling his wife he was going on obs. He was raving him self up at the table. I think he was going to kill her and make it look like the serial murderer
