...but how will we cope without Martin? Without his warmth and humour won't it be a bit bleak?

Surely that look was just to show the new relationship.
I think it's overthinking to decide she's a ghost. Apart from points already made, that scene at the railway when she changed her mind, embraced him cried etc would have had to be a fantasy and I don't think he had fantasy episodes outside, or indeed inside, the home where actual events turned out completely differently than they would have because of his wife's presence. They only had conversations at home.

RomComPhooey · 20/12/2015 08:26

Am debating in bed with DH, who has not watched it with me. He says it would have been less ambiguous if Saga was dead - eg Henrik driving & another glance across by Henrik after they look at one another to reveal an empty seat.

StoptheRavelry · 20/12/2015 08:41

Yes that's very true. It was just that she looked as if she stepped forward and there was an ambiguous 'boof' as the train went past.

So it got me worried.

But I think it all points to her being alive and in a sense, free of her mother, somehow - I think she's just realised that whatever her mother has done to her as a final push, it's the last thing she will ever be able to do to her.

And Henrik believes her and seems to care for her without her having to adapt her behaviour.

Having seen her with Jakob now, I can see the contrast in how they treat her - Jakob thought she was sweet and a bit of a novelty, but didn't really get her. Henrik really understands her in a way no one else ever has, even Hans I think, who respected her but couldn't have lived with her.

RomComPhooey · 20/12/2015 09:05

It was just that she looked as if she stepped forward and there was an ambiguous 'boof' as the train went past.

I thought there was an ominous thud too, but the train didn't start braking. It's a puzzle for sure.

ProfGrammaticus · 20/12/2015 09:13

There was an awful thud as the train went past. I thought she was dead at first. But they showed the tracks - she wasn't on them. If she were a ghost they would have shown her body there. I think she is alive.

I noticed her face liven up a little too.

quirkychick · 20/12/2015 09:40

I'm hoping that Henrik saying he needed her gave her a purpose, whereas before she thought she had lost everything. I liked the way that she decided not to report Henrik's use of narcotics, perhaps she has learnt from her experience with Martin. Perhaps, Saga is starting to accept that those close to her, like Henrik, are not perfect.

That was so fraught, with it looking like Henrik had died of an overdose (I thought he was heartbreaking too when Lillian told him they had found Alice) and then Saga saved him. Then Henrik saved her by the train tracks. I hope they make a new series, the dynamic with Henrik and Saga adds something new, he's a fab actor. I think it was deliberately ambiguous.

VegetablEsoup · 20/12/2015 09:52

I think (hope) the thud was her gun that she threw away.

having witnessed someone under a train, there was no thud to hear from the platform. maybe in the driver's cab, but not outside.

Besom · 20/12/2015 09:52

Henrik didn't see his wife once he knew she was dead, and so I don't think he is seeing ghost Saga. I also don't think that saga would have killed herself in front of him. She just wouldn't do that to anyone let alone someone she loves.

I loved the bit when she gave John the book for his daughter. What a fantastic character she is. I hope the writers can come up with something equally as good if we are not getting any more Saga.

Allofaflumble · 20/12/2015 10:38

So Emil's abduction of Hans and his subsequent death were purely because he took Emil back to the foster home and therefore let him down?

Anyway as someone who has Aspergers, I am filled with envy that Saga has Henrik in her life now! Envy Wink

hackmum · 20/12/2015 11:17

StopTheRavelry: "Also I knew I'd seen Freddie before (and fancied him just as much!) - he's Thomas Buch from Forbrydelsen, isn't he"

Thank you! I'd been racking my brains as to where I'd seen him before.

StoptheRavelry · 20/12/2015 11:40

Loads of them were in the killing - I had a good root about on IMDB yesterday!

StoptheRavelry · 20/12/2015 11:43

Yes Besom - 'You could read it to her' Grin

Dawndonnaagain · 20/12/2015 12:49

If you are standing by train tracks and a train goes past, fast, it does make that 'boof' noise as it goes by. It's air displacement.

ovenchips · 20/12/2015 13:10

Yes that is why Hans was killed. For doing his job basically. As was the social worker (who was the one who got killed in a barrel). Obviously, what they did had horrible consequences for Emil but they did not do anything 'wrong'.

I think Saga is absolutely alive. I loved the ending. And the look she gave Henrik in closing scene as she was driving was really something. Hot dang, Sofia Helin is good.

My only gripe (apart from madness of plot but I think anything involving serial killers is always preposterous) was the scene in barn where Freddie escaped with baby. He gave Emil a couple of whacks with the wood then legged it. Er, once Emil was incapacitated and you were in control surely you would either kill him with the wood or shoot him with the gun to make sure he couldn't follow you?? Kill him then there's no need to do a runner surely? I woudn't be taking my chances with a couple of whacks.Grin

gingercat12 · 20/12/2015 13:31

ovenchips Emily was his son, and Freddie may have felt responsible. .. Ok, it was a silly plotline.

OP posts:
StoptheRavelry · 20/12/2015 13:47

I'd have shot him in the foot or something. Just to make it unlikely he could come after me, especially if I was very overweight and probably a bit slow.

Hangingbasket14 · 20/12/2015 14:01

Have loved this series and procrastinating with you all, until the next time super sleuths!

RoosterCogburn · 20/12/2015 14:15

How did Emil get Freddie and the baby to the barn?

ovenchips · 20/12/2015 15:07

Ha, good question Rooster!

I take your point Gingercat but Freddie only knew Emil was his biological son for about an hour or so. And Emil, who was completely unknown to him until then, presented a real threat to his newborn son who he was very invested in before he was even born.

I know why it was done - as a plot device to increase tension in viewer and so I'm happy to suspend disbelief. But only just.

I hope they will make a 4th season. I'd like to see Saga cleared of the murder charge but now working in Copenhagen for the Danish police. With Henrik there too. I think now Hans has been lost, the team in Sweden just wouldn't be the same. And we'd get to have Lillian (instead of Linn) and some new police characters. With major sub plot of Henrik and Saga still working on finding out about his daughters.

I'd like to start watching that next week please Grin

VegetablEsoup · 20/12/2015 15:11

linn is definitly a bit odd as well, very stuck to protokol. and why is she the only one in uniform in that department?

StoptheRavelry · 20/12/2015 15:42

I suppose in theory Freddie could have refused to go back to the barn, but Emil was holding the gun and I don't think F understood the importance of the murder being carried out in the barn, rather than it being a possibility he could be shot anywhere just for refusing to cooperate.

StoptheRavelry · 20/12/2015 15:43

I'll be watching series one as soon as I can get hold of a copy Smile

will keep me busy for another, um, two days or so Grin

RomComPhooey · 20/12/2015 16:13

Or, you know, skedaddle in the helicopter he arrived in....

Hissy · 20/12/2015 16:50

Helicopter was left at the meeting point, Emil took him in the Peugeot van having shot Rasmus. I assume there is road access to where they were?

ovenchips · 20/12/2015 16:57

Did they arrive there by helicopter though? Freddie arrived by helicopter at the industrial area where Emil was waiting for him. Then the location changed to the isolated one in the painting with the barn. And as RoosterCogburn pointed out - we don't know how they managed to get to an actual island!
