Yes, for possibly the first time ever I looked at that skills test and thought 'I could do that reasonably well and in the time.' However, nerves can do terrible things to a person's competence!

That Polish chap last night - do we think he had just lost interest or had he totally misjudged what was required? Once again, even I could have got that dish ready in 1h 15 minutes. Not difficult, not complex, not even tasty!

I was rather pleased the cocky young bloke who drenched his duck in honey and put honeycomb on the plate got his marching orders but even then he was saying 'They didn't get it' rather than 'I made a dreadful mistake'.

That first guy was a bit stroppy 'I'll be going home then' - you will now

I just came on to ask the same thing. There was another lamb dish with it yesterday as well.

I made some the other day for hokey pokey ice cream and I needed three attempts. I seem to have lost the ability to melt sugar.

Duck, honey and honeycomb last night - chef sent home
Lamb and honeycomb tonight - chef through to quarterfinal, but told never to put honeycomb with meat again
Hake and honeycomb tonight - chef sent home.

I hope the second one doesn't give false hope to others that putting honeycomb with savoury stuff is a good idea. I did like Marcus's restraint when he heard about the hake/honeycomb combo - it was something like this:

M: If I said to you I was doing a dessert of honeycomb with fish, would you be happy?
Chef: No...
M: Well, then.

Marcus' face when Gregg said he disagreed about the honeycomb. 9 parts contempt, 1 part pity.

Bit strange that this week we have had three chefs use honeycomb in a savoury dish.
