As people are getting a bit Confused

OP posts:
limitedperiodonly · 15/06/2015 18:44

I think Melissandre realised Stannis was a busted flush. I've saved it for another viewing but I'm pretty sure he jostles and scowls at her realising it's all been for nothing. I think that's when he learns about the desertions and before he's told about Selyse.

Despite the monstrous thing he did, I still like Stannis. I admired him for going into battle, defending himself against the two Bolton soldiers and telling Brienne to do her duty.

Of course he was a religious lunatic who did get all those poor bastards who didn't desert killed...Grin

SagaNorensLeatherTrousers · 15/06/2015 18:45

Just watched. Jon Snurrrr! Sad I really hope there's a reason Mel has turned up there, and not just to collect his blood. Angry

gingercat12 · 15/06/2015 18:54

limitedperiodonly Stannis was the one true king. I loved Tywin's description of him "This is Stannis Baratheon we are talking about. The man fights to the bitter end and then some." I still do not think Stannis himself had any faith. He sacrificed his daughter, as he felt he had not other choice and had nothing more to lose. (I am not defending him, it was awful.)
I am clutching at straws and I do not think he died. In the books he hints to Justin Massey that he may fake his own death. It makes no sense in the show, so why not. Brienne was doing what Ned told us in the beginning that the executioner ought to look into the eyes of his victim, and if he cannot swing the blade like that, the victim may not deserve to die... The blade slashing may have been the next scene. Brienne may have also remembered Jaime's words about the oaths they make you swear. No matter what you do you always break some of them.

limitedperiodonly · 15/06/2015 19:08

gingercat I'll watch it again at least once.

I am quite rubbish at picking up clues though, which is why I have to come on the Telly Addicts threads and ask questions and go on various blogs.

I like the Guardian blog done by Sarah Hughes and the GoTWiki which is strictly TV with big warnings for book spoilers. I am addicted to it and waste far too much time there.

aprilshowerssoon · 15/06/2015 19:12

So is the series now entirely up-to-date with the books? Where have I missed the bit about Jon being a Targaryen - can someone please explain? I am addicted to the show but I have found this series extremely slow. I also don't like the fact that it looks like the next series is going to go be made before the books are written and I suspect it would be better if the books had been written and the TV programs kept close to the book plot as much as possible. Do you think GRR Martin has just run out of interest?

April A lot of the stories are up to where the books are, but some storylines are entirely missed out or just forgotten about a few series ago. Some theorise e.g. that Yara and the ironborn may come back into play. Bran sat out a season this year.

Show is same as at the end of the books: Jon, Theon (more or less, but future will be different as Stannis is dead), Arya, Bran, Cersei, Margery, Dany
Ahead of the books: Stannis and family, Mel, Barristan, Jojen
Totally different from books: Jaime, Brienne, Sansa, Myrcella, Dorne, Loras, Daario, Tyrion, Jorah, Tommen, Roob's wife and her family, Kevan Lannister and Maester Pycelle, possibly the Hound

Trills · 15/06/2015 19:48

hundreds of flaxen-haired maidens shorn to give her a weave.

Love it!

Kit Harrington could get a wig. Even a totally shved head doesn't prove anything.

gingercat12 · 15/06/2015 19:49

yumyum I think you are right that it works better on screen that Arya's killings are a bit sped up and merged. Meryn Trant's death was a combination of how she killed the Tickler and her Mercy chapter. It certainly made a disturbing viewing. If she is this damaged, what the hell will Rickon do who is meant to be totally wild?!

limitedperiodonly I also like the Guardian blog Grin

Trills · 15/06/2015 19:51

There's an episode of Firefly with poisoned lipstick.

SaskiaRembrandtWasFramed · 15/06/2015 19:56

I'm not sure it means anything if Kit Harrington isn't in the next series, well, it doesn't mean Jon Snurr is dead. He could warg, so could jump into Ghost before he dies, and then as he gets better at it, transfer to another human - as Bran has learnt to do.

There are other theories but that's my pet one, so I'm sticking with it.

NickiFury · 15/06/2015 19:57

Love that video. Thanks for posting it Smile

TheFirstOfHerName · 15/06/2015 19:58

Am I allowed to talk about E10 here?

If not, then look away now.

Lots of pathos there. Especially the bit where Brienne had been watching the tower faithfully and then steps away for the moment when Sansa actually manages to get up there with the candle. Also the scene on the boat: a very touching "I am your father" moment and then death.

Who is the newest member of the king's guard? The Mountain? Hodor?

SagaNorensLeatherTrousers · 15/06/2015 20:02

The only thing that worries me about the Ghost theory is that there has been so indication whatsoever that Jon has this ability (in the show). I don't see how they can pull it off on the TV show that he suddenly does, unless it will just be this surprise thing that even he doesn't know he can do until death. Maybe Ghost will come right up to him and comfort him in his final moments and then Jon makes this connection with him right before he dies or something???

Grin @ CLEGANEBOWL.

Just watched the video above - very interesting. (It also mentioned my theory above :))

Saga Sorry, forgot that hasn't really come up in the series. I'd guess if it did happen then yes, it would be something like Ghost suddenly turning up (as he often does) and Jon jumping into him without realising he could do that.

SagaNorensLeatherTrousers · 15/06/2015 20:27

I don't care how it's done tbf....I just want him baaaaaaack! Grin

"Oh and shelter from the Boltons, obv grin"

I think I'd take my chances with the Others before I'd stay in the vicinity of the Boltons Grin

TheAwfulDaughter I think that's why she's there too, and that KH isn't being entirely honest about his future in the series, but if he isn't coming back, warging does seem to be the most likely way of keeping him alive. And I do think that he will still be around, although I have no evidence for that.

limitedperiodonly · 15/06/2015 20:35

Am I allowed to talk about E10 here?

When I read that TheFirstOfHerName I thought you were talking about Leyton which could be the next up-and-coming area of East London and is close enough to Waltham Forest to hide direwolves.

I groaned when I realised Cersei was going to be displayed naked; gratuitous I thought. Even though I do love a good gawp at naked people of either sex, Game of Thrones does take the piss a bit.

But given that Lena Headly is such a good actress as to display her growing humiliation, and given that this is a punishment rooted in historical fact, it actually turned out to be very affecting.

Trills · 15/06/2015 20:55

In the books we get that chapter from her perspective, so Lena Headey did an amazing job.
