the Irish entry was a dirge. There's far more mainstream pop in Eurovision than there ever used to be.

I don't think you can second guess what is eurovisiony- winners often aren't traditionally eurovisiony until they win and then everyone starts copying- Lordi, Lena, Loreen, that Norwegian guy with a fiddle... None of them were particularly eurovisiony at the time. I think you just have to put up a song you like and hope it catches on. I think we've often done very badly because we tried to be eurovisiony. Much better to put forward something good and see how it does.
