Spiral is back next Saturday, series 4. BBC 4 at 9pm.

OP posts:

fussy I agree - given that Laure has totally rotten luck I have fully expected her to come to terms with the pg and want the baby only to have an accident or just miscarry.

I'm just feebly gripping onto the idea that they might give her a happy ending for once , esp given that they have killed Pierre, once again crushed Josephine and it looks like Roban has a tumour or similar.

FWIW, I think Josephine will go off the rails (and I fully expect her to sue the guard who shot him/ everyone), only to then decide to follow Pierre's example of trying to do good as a fitting tribute to the love they shared
(yes, I know, feel a leeeeelte bit sick writing that but you know what I mean....)

wowfudge · 26/01/2015 12:35

Well that was a shocker. Devastated.

I think Josephine will angle to take the case now - she's got the defence experience and a vested interest in getting to the bottom of things. Not sure if that would be allowed en France, but also not sure quite how public their relationship was. Could be the making of her. Thank God she walked out on the slimeball she went to have dinner with!

Chocolateteacake · 26/01/2015 13:18

I think Josephine will come into her own now and become a not of a legal star.

chockbic · 26/01/2015 13:30

Maybe she will take over from Roban? That would be interesting, to say the least.

butterfliesinmytummy · 26/01/2015 14:06

Thank god I found you all, been following spiral from the beginning, gets better each season. Devastated at loss of Pierre, adieu, might have to eat hit again tonight though....

butterfliesinmytummy · 26/01/2015 14:07

Clearly not "eat hit" but "watch it", stupid phone....

chockbic · 26/01/2015 15:11

Damn you auto sausage*

*correct

PTAblues · 26/01/2015 18:17

Oh god he hasn't given Spiral up for Jeremy Piven and his jazz hands has he? Such a shame. I did wonder why he had such a rubbish storyline this time.

frostyfingers · 28/01/2015 13:38

I can't believe this is the first time I've come across this series, I'm gripped. Unfortunately I'm always worn out by the time it comes on and have to pinch myself to stay awake but am diligently rewatching on Iplayer when I'm properly with it and can concentrate. Are their boxed sets of the first series (is this 4 or 5?)

butterfliesinmytummy · 28/01/2015 14:28

You can get the other 4 seasons (this is 5) on iplayer, there must be dvd sets too. Although there are different cases each season, the characters remain the same and there are occasional references to their past (Sami etc) that will become clear when you watch the previous seasons but you don't need to have seen them to enjoy this on iyswim.

ActionManEyes · 28/01/2015 15:53

Nooooo Sad

I was partially spoiled for Pierre's demise whilst skim-reading the Engrenages FB page when it aired in France, but hoped I had misconstrued. So not a total shocker but still pretty devastating! Sad Poor Maitre Karlsson.

I am v worried about le Juge. Brain tumour? He has been acting way out of character.

Laure resenting Tintin v uncomfortable too, and now he's being a shit to his wife, aaargh.

Excellent series but why can't they all just get along in fact I think this is my favourite of all five series so far.

chockbic · 28/01/2015 15:56

This is definitely the best series out of them all.

Pacing, script, interaction between the leads.

C'est magnifique!

MaitreKarlsson · 29/01/2015 18:53

I agree that the interaction between the leads is great, but the actual story is a bit slow compared to some of the others...

chockbic · 30/01/2015 14:06

Really? It is leaving me breathless.

Can't wait for next episode, apres Pierre.

GypsyFloss · 30/01/2015 17:32

Loving this series. I have a bit of a crush on both Laure and Gilou. She has beautiful eyes and he's done a cracking job of redeeming himself since the last series.

violetwellies · 30/01/2015 20:35

I've only just found this thread (and the series) only watch on iplayer, fabulous and I definitely have a girl crush on Laure.
Josephine however just looks a bit too much of a vampiric Pretty Woman...
Absolutely brilliant all of it.

GypsyFloss · 30/01/2015 20:55

violetwellies if you have netflix you can get season 4 on there if you want a bit of catch up tv.

AmazingDisgrace · 31/01/2015 13:54

It will be interesting to see the relationship between Laure and Josephine change. Laure shagged Pierre too so she'll be grieving as well. I wonder if they'll join forces in some way?

Can't wait for tonight and another opportunity to study the fine acting skills of the future Mr Disgrace. Gilou Disgrace has a certain je ne sais quoi. Oui?

GypsyFloss · 31/01/2015 16:39

Absolutely.

I struggle to remember that they're not real coppers and that I'm not watching a french documentary!

carabos · 31/01/2015 23:06

Oh heck Gilou, didn't see that coming! Now what??

LouiseBrooks · 31/01/2015 23:21

Well that first episode was really sad. I've never liked Josephine much (remember how flaky she was in the first couple of series) but she is obviously grief stricken. That scene in the wardrobe with Pierre' clothes was heartbreaking. I just hope she doesn't revert to type.

As for Gilou, well he's been a bit dodgy in the past too but what is going on?

TroelsNextCampaignManager · 31/01/2015 23:58

Great eps tonight, for different reasons. The first so sad, the second so frustrating in looking like the team's work will come to naught. Also think Laure should get a scan after that tumble!!!

Josephine was brilliant at portraying the devastation of someone whose life was just going right and who then had it all snatched away from her.

FWIW, I still think Jaulin may be in the frame for the murders. I never thought the daughter was his, so he didn't really care about Sandrine or the dd. All he cares about is Leo, who is "his" - very possessive. Which, funnily enough, echoes M Delorme and Sandrine, Djibril and his gf, Zaini and his staff, Karen and Laetitia...

On the other hand, it could have been Karen - perhaps she exploded at Sandrine for not standing up to her dad all those years ago, which put Karen back into the care system again with a reputation for lying, thus making her life harder?

Humm.... Confused

TroelsNextCampaignManager · 01/02/2015 00:12

Or maybe it was Zach after all - Sandrine refused to help out any more and he lost his temper and killed her. The dd saw the murder and so had to be killed too.

Gah.

cruikshank · 01/02/2015 02:29

It could be Zach, not knowing that the daughter was actually his, and thinking she was the granddad's.

I feel very proud of myself tonight as I thought weeks ago that there was abuse. It's not often I am ahead of the game in Spiral!

I am now a nervous wreck whenever Laure is on screen because I just know something awful is going to happen to the baby but lordy at the same time it's lovely to see her actually happy about something. The scene with her and Tintin especially was very sweet. Good to see Josephine getting back on the horse and in such fine style as well with the Libyan. She was never in her natural habitat with Pierre.

cruikshank · 01/02/2015 02:32

Oh and btw AmazingDisgrace, I Will Fight You.
