Ok I'm 42 (until the end of the week!) , 2 boys 5 & 8 yrs and live in East Midlands - not too far from Mansfield Mike! I work 3 days a week between school hours and spend the rest of the time chasing around like a blue arsed fly!

Favourite teen flicks include Some Kind of Wonderful, The Breakfast Club, Pretty in Pink and Top Gun.

I too have a thing about uniforms highlighted by my own Top Gun moment with an F14 pilot! I was young and in a foreign country and that's my excuse!!!!!

Ilovelblue · 17/12/2014 23:25

Oh gosh, been off the radar all night. A friend came round to eat up the rest of last night's venison casserole and practically polished the plate so I presume it must have been ok.

Since I started off the soul baring, I have to join in. Isn't it strange how you get ideas about people and where they live, what they do etc? I am 50 (just) and divorced. Either that or I would have ended up in prison for murder I think (haha). I too live in the North West with one daughter who is doing an apprenticeship. I work for a large American company and it's very handy that everyone around me is very technical and can do everything to do with PCs/internet/iphones etc etc so they're very useful when I get stuck.

Like galaxy said, I only came across this thread whilst desperately trying to find out what happened and who died in episode 5 of OG. Despite my elderly friend pulling a face because she assumed forums meant porn, I have never been so hooked on anything in my life and have amazed myself at how quickly I became drawn in. Similarly, even in my teenage years, I was never so obsessed with a character, especially a fictional one, as I am now. I put it down to hormones and hot flushes. The latter are sadly an issue at the moment - I'm just a bit further down the line than the rest of you.

Nickel45 · 17/12/2014 23:40

I'd forgotten some of these films, and don't know some, but going to look them up. I reckon mine would be Pretty in Pink (absolutely loved this, happy memories), Dirty Dancing (think I was at university for this, different happy memories!), definitely Top Gun (just as well we didn't have sky+ back then) and Ferris Bueller (so cool!), off the top of my head. Oh, and St. Elmo's fire.

Back to writing Christmas cards .... Not as interesting!

But some pics to go to bed with (as it were?!?)

Just read that new author's fanfiction. Hmmm, that has NOT helped my hot flushes at all. Pretty good stuff I thought.

Checking back in after really good day shopping, loss of stag sightings but no CJ alas. The last bit wasn't too good though as we had a flat tyre on the motor way in the rain. The worst bit was we were in a total 3g free zone, so no keeping up with the thread.

Loved cjwoof's lecherous insightful commentary. It definitely needs to be an option on the DVD.

OK, personal details. I'm 48 but incredibly got asked for ID today when buying alcohol!! Don't know who was more embarrassed, me or the cashier! Have been with my partner for more years than I care to remember (he is very sporty and I'm not at all, so opposites do attract) and we have two children, 18 and 14. I have never posted on a forum before this thread, so it shows the power of CJ!

As for films that i loved when i was younger, will have to give it proper thought, but they must include Pretty in Pink as i loved Molly Ringwald.

Oh and cherin you've reignited my attraction to CJ stag.Smile

gymkhanagilly · 17/12/2014 23:57

St Elmo's Fire, Ferris Bueller - the brat pack were so good for teen angst / trauma!!

I came looking on this forum as I needed a bit more after episode 5 but have to say I found so much more what with this and the fanfiction forum. You all help keep my daydreams about a certain captain going!!!!

orphan · 18/12/2014 00:06

Oh yes. Ferris Bueller has to be on the list, as well as Grease. I was also a big fan of the Doris Day/Rock Hudson type films and all the old MGM musicals. They were always showing on tv and I really loved the romance of them.

orphan · 18/12/2014 00:32

Later on, I went through a long indie phase and was rather obsessed with the film 'Paris,Texas' and then the actor Martin Donovan who was in several Hal Hartley films. I've never before been as obsessed with an actor as now though (sorry, Richard and Viggo) and certainly never been inspired to write limericks, think up merchandise or spend far too long contemplating how well they fill their combats/leather treggings.

apsara03 · 18/12/2014 05:34

Can't sleep. Fixating on that fan fiction.
favourite teen films -top gun -1st 15 I got into see underage. And I loved A few good men -though that might have been a few years later. Dirty dancing of course -gosh haven't watched these for TOO long.
gymkhanagilly we're probably not that far away from each other . At the risk of totally blowing cover I used to teach
where Mansfield mike went to school.

Nickel45 · 18/12/2014 07:55

Definitely stay mooj!, another Essex girl Smile!!

Hope you had a good night icemist. What picture does BA have on his twitter? NotTom Cruise in Top Gun? Was BA even born then? (Oh my goodness, now feel REALLY old!)

orphan · 18/12/2014 08:02

Morning all! He's got Ferris Bueller on his twitter page. I forced my kids to watch it a few years ago, but although they laughed now and again, they didn't love it like I do, but suppose they don't have the same sentimental attachment to it.

icemistOBE · 18/12/2014 08:03

Scene from a film it's killing me as I can't remember the name of it lol! I'm hoping someone knows Grin

Icemist (typing quietly) just looked at Twitter and it is still the striped tshirt picture.

Busy day today, dad day, oh hell! Halo is slipping....

Beingfrank · 18/12/2014 08:15

Anyone remember Yanks with Richard Gere? It was the first AA (14 certificate) film that I saw, when I was 12 and made a big impression on me - see attached picture. Now, I wonder who would be good in a remake???

No one can do a curled lip like Ferris Bueller! I can hear the music now...

orphan · 18/12/2014 08:26

I think it was Art of Noise who did the brrrmm, brrrmm music (if you know what I mean) for the film.

Richtea19 · 18/12/2014 08:28

Yes I remember Yanks, was Susanne York in that or am I confusing with another film?

mummyreeds · 18/12/2014 08:32

Still hovering in the background, lapping up the fun that you have on here, just never get round to posting! I'm 47, married 13 years with one son aged 8. Originally from NE but lived in NW for 22 years. Worked 3 days a week up until last month when got dismissed from job for trying to help wrong person!! Currently fighting unfair dismissal.(would do sad face but not sure how!)
This thread is one bit of escapism from pretty horrible time at the moment, that and dreaming about a certain Captain J! Never been on forum before and like others only found this searching out extra info on the delicious Ben!

orphan · 18/12/2014 08:33

What happened to the actress who played the girlfriend in Ferris Bueller? She was the epitome of cool.

orphan · 18/12/2014 08:41

Oh mummyreeds that's awful.Sad I hope you manage to have a good Christmas though and that you get justice in the end! CJ is like the saint of all ills isn't he? Guaranteed to make you feel better. He should be available on the NHS. (Typical prescription: take as many times a day as is feasible)

Nickel45 · 18/12/2014 08:41

mummyr, that's really harsh, hope it all sorts out, and that we can keep you a bit distracted Smile
