Decided on Xmas dinner (beef rendang) and meals for the rest of the week so shopped for that this afternoon. Assembled the tree and DS and DP decorated it while I was at the supermarket. Other than that it's washing up, laundry, building lego, playing games with DS while DP unpacks more boxes.

I think we're done for our low key Xmas. I need to get stocking fillers and wrap presents. I'm working up to Xmas Eve, DS has 2 more days at nursery. DP hasn't started Xmas shopping yet.

icemistOBE · 21/12/2014 17:01

Have most of food but no nibbles or drinks yet. We are home for Xmas dinner and then go to in-laws for party Christmas day afternoon with rest of family.

Just done wrapping to OG soundtrack, so missed a trick there by not having an official one!

Are we sending a late Xmas card to Ben?

pixie low key Christmas is good. Sometimes I wish it could just be us at home having a roast, rather than the hectic, mad time it's going to be. Two years ago we went to the Middle East to visit friends, that was odd.

icemist yes big mistake not doing a soundtrack. I was in HMV today, and looked for the OG DVD, couldn't find it anywhere? A card would be good, but think we have missed the postal date now? I wonder if we could do an electronic one and email to Hamilton Hodell?

icemistOBE · 21/12/2014 17:38

don't know if they'd forward it on or not Hmm

can't believe we never thought of it. If its posted in London would it get to his agency for Xmas Eve? Then he'd get it after?? worth a try maybe???

I have spent very quiet day at home, fighting off fever (bloody kids! Their stuff always gets to me!!), and enjoying DS1's birthday. Luckily he asked for pizza and cake from local patisserie, so I could stay in pj whilst sipping hot tea and swallowing ibuprofen. Tomorrow we fly very early morning...but if everything goes to plan, we'll have Xmas with my 89yo granny...not all the family, so we're only going to be 26 at the table :-)
(That doesn't count 2 babies, which will be latching at their mums)
It is quite a military operation, but they are very focused and trained in this sort of thing, my auties etc...:-)))
(And yes, Xmas dinner is at least 3/4 courses, all homemade stuff). DH is going to win a prize for Survival to Extended Family of the year!

Richtea19 · 21/12/2014 17:53

Cherin sending lots of love and really hope you shift the fever before your travels tomorrow. Gosh what a big christmas you have, what fun though :)

cherin · 21/12/2014 18:11

More than fun...it's going to be noisy!! My family has a genetic incapacity to speak at normal levels. I am not used to it anymore. It does my head in ;-) but once a year, everything is allowed! And it may be the last one with 4 generations together, so we really have to celebrate!
(Mind you, my granny has been poorly for 25 years already. And still she doesn't give up :-) she may as well live for another 10!!)

Ilovelblue · 21/12/2014 18:34

cherin safe journey tomorrow. It's rubbish being ill at Christmas and just as bad when you are away from home when you need all your creature comforts around you. Hope your medicine chest is well stocked to take away with you. Struth - 26 people for lunch!

apsara are you still up for delivering our CJ Collective card to BA's agency?

apsara03 · 21/12/2014 18:36

I can drop off a card at agents on Tuesday when in London. It's not far from nespresso shop which i was going to go via anyway.
Does any of you gifted writers wish to compose something for the inside? Off on mission to but suitable stag themed card tomorrow.
cherin have a fab Xmas. Hope you feel better tomorrow.

cherin · 21/12/2014 18:53

Mmmhhh, we could print some of SPO zombie ff and put it in the card, what do you think?
Oooooh, if we had thought about it earlier, we could have printed a card with our stag and a collection of our ff and our declarations of love the best bits of this forum? No time now!

I am very well drugged, no worries. Never had such an easy attitude towards medicine before becoming a parent, but now...I need to be a fully functional adult to herd those two creatures, and if it takes litres of coffee or popping ibuprofen, let that be it!

Hand luggage is full. Passports ready. Kids washed. Presents squashed, unwrapped but counted and cross-checked. Cab booked. I think we may be ready.
(I'd rather stay home. Much rather stay home. But grandparents can not be let down. And it will be ok. We always survive ;-) deafer, fatter, unsociable, but we come back alive)

Nickel45 · 21/12/2014 18:58

Richtea19 · 21/12/2014 19:09

Nickel Mary Berry!!!!! Well Jel!!! Has she made the mince pies????

apsara thank you for doing the card for BA, loads of kisses from us?

We are watching Nativity on TV, very funny.

orphan · 21/12/2014 19:21

My last spurt of shopping for derailed in the nicest possible way by meeting a friend for coffee. Off up to the wilds of Wi-Fi free Mother in law's house tomorrow for a couple of days, so may have problems checking in. She would definitely think it was very odd to be still thinking about an actor weeks after the programme, so strictly no mention of OG and CJ.

That's a great idea aspara although his agent probably has instructions to look out for anything coming from the nutters on mums net and destroy immediately!

cherin that sounds like a wonderful, mad family gathering. Of the rest of your family are as brilliantly nutty as you, it'll be a fantastic Christmas! Keep popping the ibuprofen or maybe self medicate with alcohol (does the trick for me!)

orphan · 21/12/2014 19:26

nickel Mary Berry! She seems like she'd be the perfect granny! I watched the documentary about her recently and it made me cry when she spoke of her son who died.

cherin · 21/12/2014 20:01

Wow, she IS the country's favourite nan...(nobody would think at the queen as nan, right?)

I missed all the carols and haven't even been able to walk around regents street this year (I used to work just off Oxford street and soak all the Xmas spirit...actually, after the first 2 weeks I started hating it, too many shoppers etc). Weird year this one. But we come back in time to watch the new year fireworks (rigorously on tv!). And the day after I am trying to set up the tradition of watching the Vienna concert (DH not much convinced. DS1 more into it. dS2 screaming his head off that he wants mr tumble instead...)

Ilovelblue · 21/12/2014 20:32

How about putting something like "Looking forward to seeing you in your next role" as well as the usual Christmas and New Year greetings. We're not saying Our Girl so we won't appear quite as obsessive as the Facebook and Twitter lot......?

icemistOBE · 21/12/2014 20:34

That's perfect. Are we doing all names as per last card? Think we'll all want kisses on this time Grin

OP posts:
Nickel45 · 21/12/2014 20:59

You lot have been busy the last few hours (sorry to throw Mary Berry into the mix there ... I was a tad excited!!). She is lovely though. I ended up standing next to her at the end without realising it, but when I did I didn't know what to say, so just smiled! Then had to leave to get home to put kids to bed!! What a glamorous life I lead!!

pixie, what beef rendang? Sounds scrummy!

cherin, hope you feel better soon, and have a safe journey. Will you ave wifi, or shall we wait out till after Christmas to catch up with you? (come back to us)

apsara you legend! Fab idea to do a Christmas card. Printing off zombie girl would be a brilliant idea if you had the time! Pease add kisses (and the latest link ... And maybe a note of how to find us just in case ... You were thinking of getting a big card weren't you!?!) :)

orphan · 21/12/2014 21:05

Yes, kisses obligatory! Wish we could deliver them in person!

I haven't been to a carol concert yet. We go to one on Christmas Eve in the evening after picking up the turkey in the morning and having a meal out. I invariably end up crying to Silent Night much to my children's disgust.

pixieg1rl · 21/12/2014 21:07

Beef Rendang is a Malaysian curry, quite dry, lots of coconut. I'm going to be putting it in the slow cooker to spend minimal time in the kitchen.

elsie3g · 21/12/2014 21:21

Would love to be included in the card if that's ok?

icemistOBE · 21/12/2014 21:27

Please put my name on the card with kisses Grin no need to add the OBE I think
