Strictly Come Dancing - too uncool?

I absolutely love this show and it just gets better every series. But I rarely admit to it in public and none of my friends watch it - they all watch X factor - which I love too but not as much. So would love to hear from anyone who loves it as much as me!

OP posts:
hulababy · 16/12/2006 21:51

Emma didn't deserve to go out. She has consistently been really good. Matt hasn't.

RTKangaSANTAMummy · 16/12/2006 21:51

MATT IS SOOOOOOOOO COCKY AND ARROGENT IMHO

trying2bgood · 16/12/2006 21:59

RT - exactly how I feel! Now that we are in the 4th year, I definitely feel people should vote for best dancers esp at this late stage. Emma is so nice, why is she so unpopular!

GO MARK!

multitasker · 16/12/2006 22:05

Thats all very well but I'm gob-smacked at the 2 that did the show dance, was she just a piece of rubber or what!!! Did she dance with Chris Parker series 1?

elliot3 · 17/12/2006 16:19

anyone think Mark and Karen are practising more than dancing?

ClementClarkeMoore · 17/12/2006 16:36

I like Matt and I'm glad Emma has gone, she's soooo affected.

Imo, I think she's got voted off because the judges have been blatantly biased towards her. Same with Louisa. Didn't matter what faults were highlighted they consistently got 8/9s

I defy anyone on here to judge on anything other than personality, and the overall performance, technicalities don't matter to us. I thought Matt and Lilia's Argentine tango was much better than Emma and Darren.

roisin · 17/12/2006 16:53

I agree! I think the judges' attitude towards the public not voting for Emma really irritated some people.

I liked Matt's Argentinian Tango last night; Emma's was just cold and sexless. Often she reminds me of a Dr Who Auton when she dances!

I know nothing whatsoever about dancing, I don't know what's good or bad, what's technically correct or incorrect. But I'm not going to base my voting on what the judges feel; I base my voting on how the dance makes me feel, and whether or not I like it.

Mark to win!

Molesworth · 17/12/2006 17:06

omg Mark and Karen were absolutely incredible with their tango last night, I am going to record the repeat so I can watch it over and over again - fabulous.

Emma didn't deserve to go though :-/

tallulah · 17/12/2006 17:46

The judges whole attitude to Emma put me off her. Arlene said there was no sex in her Argentine Tango then gave her a 9. It's been like that all the way through. She gets bad comments but still gets a 9 while one of the others gets 7 or 8 for the same thing.

ClementClarkeMoore · 17/12/2006 17:49

I agree about Mark/Karen tango - stunning!

Don't agree about Emma though!

I also think to say Emma should stay because she is consistent is contrary to what the programme is about. It's supposed to be non-dancers (she went to stage school which must help) learning and improving surely?

Matt and Mark have improved enormously whilst Emma has stayed level.

LittleSarah · 17/12/2006 17:59

I don't think Emma should have gone really, although I think the judges' bias has made the public reluctant to vote for her, she is better than Mark and Matt usually.

Craig said last night she had improved over the weeks.

Still I am not a big fan of hers so am not too bothered!

Not too impressed with Matt last night although he has really really improved...

Still... MARK TO WIN!!

(Also what annoyed me with the Lousia V Emma thing, I remember the judges saying that Lousia was the only one who danced as well as a professional one evening and yet they went for Emma more recently as she is the better dancer....?)

JollyOldSaintNikkielas · 17/12/2006 18:11

Arlene was all over Louisa then chose Emma, seemed to be a lot of fuss over Emma and she tended to look sulky rather than anxious(like all the others) when down to the last two.
What will be in the final? It can't just be the 2 couples dancing?

Glitterygookwithchocsonthetree · 17/12/2006 18:20

Totally agree with you Roisin.

Mark to win here too!!

trying2bgood · 17/12/2006 18:44

I have a feeling the other contestants will come back and dance a minute or two of their best dances.

I guess we always vote with our hearts rather than our minds. GO MARK! I really do think he should win it as he loves it more than Matt. Matt I feel wants to win it because he wants to win while Mark wants to win it because he loves it.

People keep saying Emma had the advantage but in the last three years (including this year's) 5 out of 6 of the contestants were atheletes/sports people so surely the fact they are so used to conditioning their bodies means that they also have an advantage? Ok, that is too sad, I am actually quoting a statistic - I need to go find something else to obsess about!

trying2bgood · 17/12/2006 18:45

I meant finalists

MistleToo · 17/12/2006 18:46

It's never been about the best dancer otherwise Colin Jackson would have won and that Eastender actor (Christopher something) would have been out first round instead of making the semis - mad!

FestiveFrex · 17/12/2006 18:47

If it were a case of the least likely dancer improving over the weeks, how on earth did Jill Halfpenny win 2 years ago? She trained as a dancer from very young until 16-18 and you can't tell me that that doesn't help!

Emma has had no formal dance training but has been consistently good - but now is slated because she went to stage school. If that is a minus, how did Jill slip through? I don't remember her being slagged off for having an unfair advantage.

Matt and Mark have had to train in a way which is totally alien to their normal regime (but then so have all the non-sports people who had no physical advantage). I agree that Mark has been quite amazing this series, and so has Matt who has come from a brute-force type sport, so the transformation into a sensitive, sensual dancer is all the more amazing.

trying2bgood · 17/12/2006 22:33

Agree with what you are saying festive. I loved Jill and didn't give two hoots about whether she had training or not, I just liked her and her dancing was fun! Jill was incredibly popular, perhaps because of her eastenders background or simply because she was always laughing - who knows? Most of the actors/singers will have had some sort of background 'training' in drama or dance, and atheletes are incredibly fit so have the stamina to train hard and put in the hours so the playing field is never level!

Somebody tell me what am I going to do with myself when it is over next week? Is there a xmas special?

LittleSarah · 18/12/2006 12:00

I believe there is a Christmas special on Christmas day, about 7/8pm.
From Radio Times...

Here's something to feast your mince pies on - an extravaganza featuring six of the stars from the last two series, performing their highest-scoring dances. The judges then deliver their verdict, while the studio audience vote for their favourite. As RT went to press, no names had been confirmed, but we do know the show won't necessarily include past winners.

I loved Jill too..

jenk1 · 18/12/2006 15:29

i believe (i could be wrong though) that :

Louisa and Vincent
Zoe and Ian
Mark and Karen
are taking part in the xmas special, not too sure about the others though.

trying2bgood · 18/12/2006 16:41

FAB FAB FAB! Something to look forward to on Christmas day!!!

My poor dh will be devastated though.

multitasker · 19/12/2006 16:16

Colin Jackson I think will be performing too.

jenk1 · 19/12/2006 19:05

did i just hear right?

Im sure that Len Goodman just said that each couple will be performing 5 dances each.

1, Their favourite Ballroom
2, Their favourite Latin
3, A Viennese Waltz
4, A Dance to the judges choice of music
5, A Showdance.

Wow, i cant wait to see this on saturday, i think ill try and drop heavy hints to DH to take the kids to the inlaws so i can watch this in peace.

And, i know who im voting for.
