Ah right I get you now yes they do try and bluff their way through it

nottheOP · 10/12/2014 09:08

De lurking to link to Darcey's Jive...

SpanishFly · 10/12/2014 09:15

and here's a link to Pixie's Charleston, which I referred to earlier. At 23-28 seconds, her legs are weird, and it just looks plain awkward.
At 31 seconds her kicks go out of sync with Trent's, and again at 1.26 mins.
Now, it was a fabulous dance, but my point is that the judges were gushing about how PERFECTlY timed it all was, and how they couldnt believe how she kept in time etc etc.
So no wonder she ended up believing the hype - everyone told her how fab she was, even when she blatantly went out of time

Tensmumym · 10/12/2014 11:48

As ever, Mighty Monkseal sums things up beautifully: "VT now and Pixie tells us that she loved her Viennese Waltz, and that the judges comments were beautiful. She then lies her arse off that she had no idea how far she’d get in the show, and she’s so grateful and surprised to find herself in the quarter-finals. Mmm hmm. I like Pixie, but if she ever gave even a fleeting thought that she might not be in the final I’d be very surprised.... Len then goes in on her for having over-corrected her crappy over-flexible leg-action from previous weeks (which he has…never mentioned before) and gone too far the other way, and has produced legs that are too stiff and not flexed enough."

Subtly marking place ... Brew

Tensmumym · 10/12/2014 12:43

Very interesting to watch Darcey's jive nottheOP. Very reminiscent of Pixie's style I thought. What do those who know about that sort of thing think of her technique?

SpanishFly · 10/12/2014 13:22

I dont know about these things, but thought she looked like a beginner Xmas Hmm

ppeatfruit · 10/12/2014 17:00

Nottheop Thanks a lot for that link. IMO part of her jive was brilliant but parts were ballet !!Of course Xmas Grin it must be very difficult to forget an extremely intense lifetime of ballet training. Also that link shows her show; Darcey Dances Hollywood which I referred to upthread, dancing cheek to cheek, once again more ballet than ballroom!!!! Which she does discuss nd is fully aware of. I [heart her] especially standing up to the rudeness of graham Norton he's a shxx IMO.

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 10/12/2014 17:08

It does make me smile when they refer to themselves as novices. In most competitions, novice is actually the second level up (above beginner). I know what they mean, it's just an unfortunate choice of word... Grin

DoesntLeftoverTurkeySoupDragOn · 10/12/2014 17:57

How much benefit will a few years of dance at stage school give them though? If they were mainly actors, I would have thought they would have done very little dance really. Also, they probably have done none since leaving.

maggiethecat · 10/12/2014 18:11

GettingJiggy, that's why Judy progressed so far. No matter that she was a motorised mannequin. The fact that she had a permanent smile painted on despite scathing judges' comments was enough to get her votes for far too long.
Had she been any good however the fixed smile would have lost her votes for lack of humility.
Damn Pixie for not knowing that attractiveness plus confidence plus good dance ability meant that she would be disliked by many a voter.

BeHoHoHove · 10/12/2014 19:15

Grin at motorised mannequin

I did like Judy on the show, she seemed a very genuine grounded person

Tanaqui · 11/12/2014 18:52

Watching ITT tonight and idly musing (in non judgy way!)- Zoe and darcey are almost exactly the same age- would love to see darcey dressed down like Zoe (darcey very unlined for 45!) - or is it the hair I would like to see relaxed? But I like Darceys hair- am quite bored of long hair in everyone (l like frankie for her hair!)

And vicki gill has very shiny hair

Tanaqui · 11/12/2014 19:19

And does Zoe ever wear flats?

Tanaqui · 11/12/2014 19:20

Or anything other than heels, skinnies, and a sparky top?

SpanishFly · 11/12/2014 19:24

But Maggie if it was as straightforward as it being dislike for Pixie's good looks and dance ability, then Frankie wouldn't be getting votes either - but she's clearly very popular.

RudeBarbandCustard · 11/12/2014 22:58

Wow, just watched Darcey's Jive. Her legs are amazing! OK, it wasn't jiving, but bloody hell she's pretty impressive.

Marked place

DoesntLeftoverTurkeySoupDragOn · 12/12/2014 07:18

Darcy did the American Smooth too.

Clayhead · 12/12/2014 07:44

Zoe wore a skirt the other week and then spent all the show tugging at it!

Tanaqui · 12/12/2014 07:54

Oh dear! Still she does do her usual look v well.

ppeatfruit · 12/12/2014 08:15

Tanaqui Zoe wore flats in a dance for a VT at the beginning of one of the shows) She mentioned on R2 that she has a wardrobe full of heels she never wears Xmas Grin

I'm not sure why Strictly is the world of the torture stiletto because when actually dancing the pros and contestants wear normal reinforced (1 and a half?) inch heeled shoes.

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 12/12/2014 14:56

Two and a half I'd guess (although some of the pros probably wear 3 1/2 for Latin).

ppeatfruit · 12/12/2014 16:30

Centimetres yes Polkadots 3 1\2 inches NOOOO you couldn't hobble let alone dance Latin in those fgs. Xmas Grin

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 12/12/2014 17:52

Well, I definitely couldn't (I tried them once and felt like Bambi) but I have friends who do. Watching them wear them for the first few times is usually quite funny Grin

I wear 2 1/2" for both, and that seems pretty standard, although some people choose to wear a slightly lower heel for ballroom.

Most men wear 1.5 or 2 inch cuban heels for Latin, and you don't want your partner in higher heels than you...

ppeatfruit · 13/12/2014 10:15

Did you notice Zoe mentioning Frankie being a bit 'heavy' to lift yesterday? She would be too tall for kevin too in 3 and half ins. !!!
