Why does no one mention this???? I could not bear it if he won.

Justgotosleepnow · 09/12/2014 17:39

Hi making place to read later

BeHoHoHove · 09/12/2014 17:50

Maybe it's difficult to find current celebs who haven't been to stage school or some such, but I just wish they would be honest about it.

I did not know about Pacha and RR, that would be very pretty children.

Tanaqui · 09/12/2014 20:51

Just watched Mondays ITT and Zoe really did dodge away from the question about Caroline's dance experience! I think I read that mark only went to the stage school at weekends if that makes it any better?! To be fair it would be quite hard to find a dozen people anywhere where no one had done ballet as a child/ stagecoach/ even aerobics type exercise classes make you keep in time!

SingingTunelessly · 09/12/2014 21:10

Not sure Zoe dodged it as such but think it was the first time the question had been raised regarding any of the celebs. But agree most of them will have done some sort of ballet/dance/acting class at some point like most of us I imagine. . Xmas Grin Depends on the level they were taught to as to how much advantage it gives them I guess.

Tensmumym · 09/12/2014 21:14

As OnlyLovers says, fair enough if the contestants have had some experience but probably best to avoid going ON and ON and ON about how you've never danced before and how you're Marky No Moves after having spent your life in nightclubs. Rant over. (Is it obvious I don't like him and all he stands for??)

Redcoats · 09/12/2014 21:27

The question about Caroline definitely flummoxed her.
Perhaps she'd forgotten who the 'novices' are and who the stage school trained 'yes but I've never done this sort of dancing and its sooooo hard' ones are.

I don't mind previous experience, that much. I'd just wish they'd be a bit more upfront about it.

I've gone off Mark. All the tears and the gushing are annoying. I didn't know much about him before but he seems a big false.

Tensmumym · 09/12/2014 21:40

You know how they say you can judge a man by the company he keeps? Mark Wright's best friend is Tweed, Jade Goody's ex [[http://perezhilton.com/category/jade-goody/#.VIdrnTGsWf4]]

maggiethecat · 09/12/2014 21:45

BaconAndAvocado you've really set me off with the mention of self deprecation - what is this bloody British fixation with self-deprecation!? It's hypocritical to don the cloak of pretence when you know damn well that you were good - is that to make the less able feel good about themselves??!!!

SpanishFly · 09/12/2014 22:06

nobody in the world is perfect, so self-deprecation is part of that fact - being able to see and laugh at your flaws. But her body language and manner gave the impression that she didn't believe she had any flaws when it came to dancing

maggiethecat · 09/12/2014 22:55

I think that it's a British affliction that despises self confidence which is perhaps what her body language reflected. Arrogance is another thing entirely and I never saw arrogance in Pixie.
Can you name any significant number of successful sportspersons who are self deprecating?

SpanishFly · 10/12/2014 07:13

It's not really the same thing, though - a sportsman at the top of their career IS the best and therefore have nothing to put themselves down about. But after football matches, there are ALWAYS players/captains/managers who say they were disappointed with the way they played (even if they won the match).
But a fairly minor celebrity on a dancing show being overconfident is just a bit unpleasant, imo.

DoesntLeftoverTurkeySoupDragOn · 10/12/2014 07:19

It's hypocritical to don the cloak of pretence when you know damn well that you were good - is that to make the less able feel good about themselves??!!!

No, it's because the British do not allow you to say "Hell yes, I was damn good!" Because they will then complain that you are an arrogant twat. It is impossible to win :)

SpanishFly · 10/12/2014 07:22

The other dancers don't come across like that, though - even the ones who are also damned good. They are gracious when they are praised by the judges, and they agree when the judges criticise. But Pixie just seemed to agree when praised, and have a fixed grin when criticised.

DoesntLeftoverTurkeySoupDragOn · 10/12/2014 07:23

I never noticed anything like that though. I wonder if people see what they want to see having taken a dislike to someone?

SpanishFly · 10/12/2014 07:27

Possibly. Although in my case I LOVED her at the start. I then started to notice that her legs looked odd in some dances, yet they gushed over her. She was out of sync, yet they gushed over her. That was itrritating in itself. But then she seemed to believe her own hype.

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 10/12/2014 07:35

She's not the only one - some of the pros can look a bit fed up (Kristina's one I've noticed). Although being fair, they work very hard and tend to get more blame than praise it must seem a thankless task sometimes.

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 10/12/2014 07:37

Her footwork was never that good, but because she had a good top line she wasn't pulled up on it. And if Trent hasn't told her, how would she know?

ppeatfruit · 10/12/2014 08:00

i noticed that Trent said ,more than once, that Pixie's been on a journey which wasn't really obvious to me actually Xmas Grin.

SpanishFly · 10/12/2014 08:02

I agree Polka - she was never pulled up for her footwork/legs. If Trent didnt tell her, then why the hell not - it was obvious to us lowly viewers Xmas Grin

GettingJiggyWithIt · 10/12/2014 08:04

Ooh for those talking about Englishness incorporating self-deprecation, you would love Kate Fox Watching the English. It deals with this faux modesty/humble attitude, why we like underdogs, not getting above yourself, all that stuff. We are not very direct as a nation, it is all in the nuance and yes it is hypocritical but as a cultural stereotype we do value humility.

ppeatfruit · 10/12/2014 08:18

To be fair Darcey did pick her up quite a bit on various points, but they all seemed dazzled by her obvious stage presence and showiness.

Which station is Kate Fox on GettingJiggy?

SpanishFly · 10/12/2014 08:31

Isnt it funny how Darcey is the total legend on the panel, yet her comments are almost disregarded cos she doesnt say them in a panto villain way Grin

Mrsjayy · 10/12/2014 08:52

I don't know why people are surprised tv personalities and pop stars went to stage school or dance classes.

SpanishFly · 10/12/2014 08:58

I dont think anyone IS surprised - what we're surprised about are the lengths they all go to to convince us that they are total novices.
