What I find interesting, and I don't even like Pixie, but I do like Frankie even less is that the judges, and esp. Len were very careful to say the decision was based on last dance and not how they thought the couple would progress further in the competition.

Other times when judging the dance-off they have said though 'The couple I want to see dance again...'which is a very different thing. It does contain some expectations for the future.

ppeatfruit · 08/12/2014 09:23

Ref. 'spoilers" Spanish didn't spoil anything at all for me.

I watched with no idea at all of the bombshell of Pixie going. IMO it was the very BEST result!!!!! It meant that Simon danced better in the D.O. he was effing brilliant and I liked him fainting, he was totally shocked like me!!

Pixie is always the same, Simon has definitely improved.

It has restored my faith in the show actually (apart from the silly pretence of the results show).

SpanishFly · 08/12/2014 10:12

Thank you ppeat. Wine

Tensmumym · 08/12/2014 10:17

Pleased that Pixie left but she was extremely unlucky. It was the first dance I can recall where each judge said something negative about her dancing. It felt similar to when Thom was voted off - one not so good dance, up against the wrong person in the DO and they're gone. I think people will have been put off by Trent's comments about the dances they would be doing the following week. I know most people expected them to go through but it’s off-putting that it was so obvious that they thought they were a dead cert for the semi-final. Even Claudia asked Kristina how she would feel if it was her last dance with Simon whereas there was no such question for Pixie or Trent - but I think that will have annoyed some people. I know it was Simon’s 3rd time in the DO but still… Very pleased for Simon. I loved his routine but I thought it was OTT when he collapsed to the floor on hearing the result but DH said he could understand it. I thought Pixie spoke very graciously at the end. Everything crossed that Mark won’t make it to the final. The audience would be swept away by the tears he would produce if that happened.

Tensmumym · 08/12/2014 10:20

Can anyone explain why Caroline apologised to Pasha at the end of their dance?

SpanishFly · 08/12/2014 10:45

Did Trent argue or answer back to Len? I was reading somewhere that some people believe Len voted them off because of Trent's backchat

SoupDragon · 08/12/2014 10:50

I only remember him replying to Len's comment about lifts to say they had X and X dances next week so it didn't matter. Cheeky but not rude. I didn't notice anything else.

digerd · 08/12/2014 11:04

Pixie was subdued in her dance off as if she knew? Or she was in shock at being in the DO.

I thought Frankie might have been in the DO but she obviously has a large fan club.

I love Caroline's dancing.

TranquilityofSolitude · 08/12/2014 11:07

They turned on Pasha's microphone slightly too early at the end of their dance and you could hear him saying "feet together, feet together" to Caroline, so perhaps that's why she apologised.

ppeatfruit · 08/12/2014 11:17

The thing with actual entertainers like Pixie and Frankie and to be fair Simon they are used to performing in front of large crowds and cameras, whereas "Judy" type contestants are not, she became literally 'petrified' with fear because of it.

ohdearitshappeningtome · 08/12/2014 11:19

Caroline's Argentine tango didn't have enough flicks and kicks!

Tensmumym · 08/12/2014 12:59

Thanks Tranquility. Caroline seems quite fragile after the dances which is quite at odds with how she normally comes across. I think I would like her to win.

ppeatfruit I agree that Simon has an advantage as a pop star in that he will be more comfortable performing and have learnt dance routines in his pop career Frankie and Pixie have attracted more negative comments in this regard than he has. He also won a Christmas edition of Strictly which has hardly been mentioned although he probably has had less dance experience than either of them.

ppeatfruit · 08/12/2014 13:12

Oh I didn't know that Tensmumym A bit odd, I haven't heard that mentioned at all, was it on IT2 ? (I've recorded some of them but haven't seen them yet).

Tensmumym · 08/12/2014 13:36

Not sure how I know. This from Wikipedia- and apparently he came third. "On 23 November 2011,[5] it was announced that Webbe would be taking part in the Strictly Come Dancing Christmas Special. Webbe was the first celebrity to compete (dancing the Cha Cha Cha to "Merry Christmas Everybody") – supported in the audience by fellow Blue bandmates Duncan James and Anthony Costa. His celebrity partner was Katya Virshilas. The judges placed Webbe in joint third – with a score of 36 out of 40. The Strictly Come Dancing Christmas Special was broadcast on BBC One on 25 December 2011.[6]"

ppeatfruit · 08/12/2014 14:22

Thanks for that, interesting, it seems odd to ask him back for the real thing , perhaps he wasn't properly trained so they thought it'd be okay. Oh I was forgetting about Pixie, Caroline and Frankie Xmas Grin

Dotty342kids · 08/12/2014 14:40

It's not the first time that someone has featured in the Christmas special, and then on the main show. I can't think who else has, but know it's happened Smile

SpanishFly · 08/12/2014 14:44

I never pay any attention to the Christmas specials. But I had a vague recollection that Simon had been once. How much time do they have for training for the Christmas shows? It can't be long cos they're never very good. So I don't think it'd put him at much, if any, advantage.

Have you seen the lineup for this year's christmas special? They're all returning celebrities! Sounds far more enjoyable.

ppeatfruit · 08/12/2014 14:51

Yes I don't reckon many of us get to sit and watch the Christmas specials especially if it's on Christmas Day and there are a lot of other good programmes to record.

What's the lineup Spanish? Oh dear better not tell it may be construed as a 'spoiler' Xmas Grin Xmas Hmm !!!

BeHoHoHove · 08/12/2014 14:57

Tell me, I want to know as well please.
I don't fancy that tortoise programme that's being advertised at all

SpanishFly · 08/12/2014 15:04

Louis Smith with Aliona Vilani.
Sophie Ellis-Bextor with Aljaz Skorjanec.
Chris Hollins with Iveta Lukosiute.
Rachel Stevens with Tristan MacManus.
Lisa Riley with Robin Windsor.
Russell Grant with Joanne Clifton.

It is NOT a spoiler! The BBC announced the contestants last month! Xmas Biscuit Xmas Grin

GrouchyKiwi · 08/12/2014 15:17

Oh, Sophie and Aljaz. That's a hot pairing.

ohdearitshappeningtome · 08/12/2014 15:20

If u notice they are all early exit pros that's prob why they get the xmas specials

SonorousBip · 08/12/2014 15:24

Racks brain... wasn't Harry Judd in the Christmas one one year? I think it is a fairly established starting point.

Disclaimer - I'm usually asleep on the sofa by that time and its always morphed into Dr Who when I wake up!

SpanishFly · 08/12/2014 16:18

ohdear are you referring to the Xmas lineup? Cos only one was an early exit, 2 were champions, 1 was a runner up, 1 was a finalist and the other was a semi finalist

SoupDragon · 08/12/2014 16:56

Some went out early this series. I guess they need to be out of the main competition to have had time to film the Christmas special..
