Anyone watching , so far quite tense especially the music

I thought he looked dodgy too.

Then again I tend to think that about just about every single character. Trusting I'm not.

funambulist · 26/11/2014 10:46

I think that Tony kills Ian only a week after Ollie disappears. I know it seems like longer as we are now on episode 5 and Ollie disappears in episode 1, but when Emily goes to see Ian's wife I think she says, "My son disappeared last week."

rebelfor · 26/11/2014 10:46

The male hotelier has died in the present day.

Trunchbull · 26/11/2014 10:48

He was a bit, I dunno, shifty, when Tony spoke to him about the football. I didn't see what relevance he had there, a bit part, a little random, then not seen again since.

Trunchbull · 26/11/2014 10:51

Has he died in the present day? I have missed that bit of info, doesn't stop him being involved back in 2006 though - I just think the small bit part for him didn't fit. He is MY suspect (until I change my mind again in an hour).

funambulist · 26/11/2014 10:54

Trunchbull that is so interesting.

So.

Ian and Emily's car breaks down.

The garage recommends Hotel Eden, proprietors Sylvie and Alain Deloix.

As Ian, Emily and Ollie arrive Alain Deloix is about to leave for a meeting.

Ollie disappears.

Ian finds out that Vincent and Ian know each other because they share child abuse material. Ian describes Georges Deloix (police chief/mayor) as his "mate" and implies that Georges does him favours or protects him.

Sometime between 2006 and present day Alain Deloix dies.

In the present day Georges Deloix complains that the town has suffered due to being associated with Ollie's disappearance and that he can't see his niece as often (Alain and Sylvie's daughter?).

I think that Monique is Molly, partly because that episode is called "Molly". But other possibilities that would connect her to the plot are Georges' niece or Baptiste's daughter, Sarah. Baptiste and his wife have not seen her for a while so she might have cleaned up?

Flibbertyjibbet · 26/11/2014 10:55

Chief of police can't take action against tony for killing Ian as tony will have all the tapes implicating god knows who.
when tony walked into the country house there was a thing like a big slab, I thought he was going to look under it for his son.
Ian under slab, boat scuttled, police don't bother looking too hard into what happened to Ian as his wife won't do a missing person report for ages as she's glad to see the back of him.

funambulist · 26/11/2014 10:56

Trunchbull when Tony returns to Hotel Eden in the present day Sylvie is still there and says that her husband has died.

EauRouge · 26/11/2014 11:02

I thought that in the present day, Baptiste's wife visits him saying their daughter had turned up at their house again asking for money? Or is that in one of the flashbacks? You might need to discount everything I say Grin

Monique could be connected to Vincent maybe- sister? But I don't know why that would make her want to shag Tony, so it's probably a shit theory.

funambulist · 26/11/2014 11:04

I can't understand why Tony kills Ian when he might have information about Ollie.

Ian keeps saying that he didn't take Ollie, but he could be lying or he might not have taken Ollie but he might know or suspect who did.

And what about all the other poor children on the 53 tapes? How will the police find out who they are or where they are with Ian dead?

funambulist · 26/11/2014 11:06

EauRouge you're right, Baptiste's wife must have seen Sarah in order to leave to avoid her.

The Monique and Tony one night stand remains a mystery.

funambulist · 26/11/2014 11:08

And why didn't Tony search the house properly? Ollie might have been held captive there.

Flibbertyjibbet · 26/11/2014 11:10

But remember the broad church ending? Guilty party was one of the main characers husband.
It will be police liaison officer.
not quite sure why yet tho but something to do with James.

Chefpepperjack · 26/11/2014 11:11

Subtitles are your friend.

I wondered about the hotel husband. The scenes with him were kind of unnecessary

MarthasHarbour · 26/11/2014 11:12

KLAXON KLAXON - I noticed something significant!

When Tony was in the cell and Ian knocked to be let out - did anyone notice the police officer who let Ian out of the cell - i am convinced it was the white/grey haired man who was in the cleaning van. He gave Tony a sneery stare when he closed the cell door again.

Somebody please watch that bit again and see if you agree with me! Grin

BigglesFliesUndone · 26/11/2014 11:13

Tony killed him to reiterate to the audience his uncontrollable temper I reckon. He has lost it several times now.

RubMyLamp · 26/11/2014 11:16

I was thinking the liason officer too.

funambulist · 26/11/2014 11:16

I wonder if part of the denoument will be that Tony's actions after Ollie's disappearance mean that he will never be found.

NeitherHereOrThere · 26/11/2014 11:17

Fun - Tony has a violent temper and has form for beating up people in a flash of temper (e.g man in hospice & Vincent) so its not surprising he killed Ian when provoked.

RubMyLamp · 26/11/2014 11:17

Biggles if I'd just viewed what he did and then found more tapes I think I'd be bashing the perpetrators skull in too Sad Angry

rebelfor · 26/11/2014 11:19

Me too RubMyLamp, especially the ''He was beautiful'' comment Sad

RubMyLamp · 26/11/2014 11:21

Shudder, that made my blood run cold.

NeitherHereOrThere · 26/11/2014 11:21

I don't think Ian has actually admitted to killing Molly - he only implied that he abused her.

funambulist · 26/11/2014 11:22

I think that any parent's priority, no matter how angry, would be finding their child.

I would expect Tony to behave like Rini, who held a knife to her brother's throat to get information.

Killing Ian only makes sense if Tony believes Ian has no information about Ollie's disappearance (how can he be sure of this, Ian is an adept and convincing liar?) or Tony believes that there is no hope of finding Ollie.

RubMyLamp · 26/11/2014 11:25

I don't think he was thinking rationally after seeing that tape. Red mist only at that point I think.
