Just caught up on the thread. I don't think anyone has mentioned Stella's red top yet, or I whizzed past it. It not only made a welcome change from all the drapey silk tops, I also thought it really suited her. I thought the chapel coat peg nipples when she was flouncing around in her hotel room in her dressing gown with Merlin were a bit unnecessary, though.

BingoBonkers · 19/12/2014 00:02

Her hair didn't look as good in this episode.

TheDietStartsTomorrow · 19/12/2014 00:07

I think Stella was fascinated by Spector. Her obsession with him was a bit unhealthy but that only came to light in her reaction to him facing death. It was all a bit too morbid tbh.

Aradia · 19/12/2014 00:35

I found the bit in the refuge really upsetting, was shouting at the telly for someone to crack him over the head! PS pupils were massive in the interviews, deliberately so, Stella's not so much. I can't believe they left it on such a cliffhanger. Poor Sally Anne! Katie seemed a bit unsure of herself after Stella's interview as well I thought. Will they carry on in 3rd series? Strange way to end anyway!

Aradia · 19/12/2014 00:37

I noticed the departure from silk with her interview top as well. And the colour - red. She's not worn that before. I may be overthinking slightly

VashtaNerada · 19/12/2014 06:34

Ooh - and the bit where she asked who Spector was talking to in the camcorder bit with Rose - she included us (ppl who watch this sort of thing on TV & films). Thought that was a nice touch, addressing the criticisms of voyeurism directly.

hudyerwheesht · 19/12/2014 07:32

Did anyone else notice the choice of words Spector used when speaking to Olivia? The whole speech about "I'm sorry I wasn't always there to give you a cuddle", etc. Was that whole bit for Olivia or to get a reaction out of Stella? She certainly seemed affected by it and it felt like he was doing it to push her buttons.

I didn't really understand Stella's gratitude for Sally Ann bringing Olivia in- what was the purpose of it? They didn't talk about anything evidence-related. Did I miss something?

werenotreallyhere · 19/12/2014 07:37

I assumed Spector said he would show them where Rose was in exchange for a meeting with his daughter

We3KingyofOblomovAre · 19/12/2014 07:40

I didn't like the red top. She hung up her silk 'bla-Ouse', that had just come back from being dry cleaned. I could not BELIEVE that she didn't wear it for her interview with him.

2rebecca · 19/12/2014 07:57

I didn't understand why journo just let psycho Jimmy take his car and phone and why knowing Jimmy is a psycho he took him to the scene. Would have preferred an extra 5 minutes but crime dramas don't seem to do proper endings on TVs or books it's all drama until the last sentence. With the way he was haemorrhaging it's stupi if they let him survive. Saved the virtual tax payers a lot of money

werenotreallyhere · 19/12/2014 08:01

I didn't really understand why they went with so few police officers to the scene

FibonacciSeries · 19/12/2014 08:07

My understanding is that Merlin had a bulletproof vest and anyway I think he was shot in the arm, while Spector's wounds were life threatening. Stella did look a bit too distressed for my taste, I want it to be because she really wants to see him rot in jail but it seemed more intimate than that.

diddl · 19/12/2014 08:32

Glad that I wasn't the only one who was disappointed.

I hated the "offering up" of Gail-as if he wouldn't see through that!

So Stella titivates herself upHmm.

Then there's the "deal" resulting in him being out & about at the same time as the wife beating thugHmm

Who the police can't get to a women's refuge in time to containHmmHmm

And Stella apparently cradling him as he (hopefully) dies.

guineapiglet · 19/12/2014 08:38

Yes it was sickeningly intimate, she didn't cast one look in Merlins direction. In the very well acted interview scene, it was like she got inside him and pared him back to childhood and his loss of his mother. She showed him how she knew him and what made him tick, the power he had etc, and then he did the same back by mentioning her close relationship with father. She had power over him and vice versa -were they each other's nemesis?
Beardy looked way out of depth throughout and sending a helicopter to a forest?!?!? There were plenty of police officers and thankfully they were armed but it was amazing that they let her go through the woods aloneishShock again back to her power and desire to be the one to unlock Spector. But she was at pains to make us all see the nature of male violence, by humanising him and stating that he is not a monster, just a normal family man with wife and kidsShock

mumofthemonsters808 · 19/12/2014 09:57

Did he actually have sex with Katie ?. I remember him tying her to the bed and sending her a video of himself but I can't remember them actually having sex. I could not see the photos properly that the Police had from inside the hotel room. I was very grateful that she did not throw acid at her blond friend.Clarification required please.

No, Paul didn't have sex with Katie. He masturbated on webcam.

Not sure what they'll do with Katie, if she'll be locked up. I got the feeling she was intending to carry out his suggestion on her friend

hudyerwheesht · 19/12/2014 10:47

ah, werenotreallyhere, I see. I thought he told them about the "other victim" before that scene with Olivia...I got confused I think.

mumofthemonsters808 · 19/12/2014 10:59

Thanks Nancy66 , I would have liked to have seen Katie's Mothers response featured.

OttiliaVonBCup · 19/12/2014 11:04

He was in a way a similar to Stella - they alluded to the abuse in their childhood, so they were kindred spirits in a way but chose to deal with the abuse differently.

I think that's why Stella felt close to Spector. Repulsed, but close.

limitedperiodonly · 19/12/2014 11:22

I was screaming 'ffs! Just get on with it' a lot of the time and for all of the last 15 minutes.

How good is her eyesight that she managed to spot a padlock, a brand-new one at that, on the door of the building where Rose was first held from 30 paces?

Why didn't the police officer follow her into that building?

Why wasn't Jimmy arrested, if not at the refuge, then at some point? Or least there being some indication that the police were looking for violent man who threatened to kill a number of women and himself and then legged it with a loaded gun?

How did she manage not to get her high heels stuck in the mud in the forest.

And why did she go looking for Rose in the forest without back-up, at the very least a doctor?

diddl · 19/12/2014 11:27

Jimmy had had a tag that he cut off, I think.

Then the police didn't get to the refuge quick enough.

I guess that they had no idea where he was headed after the refuge.

beaglesaresweet · 19/12/2014 11:29

Ottilia, I don't think he as abused as a child, though of course he did know of the abuse at boarding school of other boys, still it was all male environment. He said he never washed to make himself repellent to the sicko teacher and it worked. His dysfunctional mentality is due to his mother's suicide - anger towards women, he felt powerless as a child for being abndomed and then passed around from a horrid school to wherever else.

I'm also vey annoyed at the ending, they should have either finished him off or saved him by having medics on the scene ASAP. Really stupid coincidence with the psycho guy - tice (in the park and now he's managed to track then don even though helicopter saw the car above - why the heck didn't they deal ith his car earlier??)

I interpreted the happiness on Spector's face hen dying as Stella caring (for her own reasons, but still) and cradling him in a MOTHERLY way, whatever she was thinking or feeling it felt like that to him, I don't think at all he sees her a sex object, pointing the obvious she's not his type and he did say he 'hated the bitch' earlier to Katie, genuinely. But hte actual emotion and cradling must have reminded him the maternal love.

limitedperiodonly · 19/12/2014 11:30

Yes, you're right I suppose. I just found it too neat.
