Anyone watching this drivel?
although slightly enjoyed the family dynamics going on last night, unfortunately DD's favourite programme and in fact Guardian seems to recommend it Hmm

This episode has had 3 'fucks' in it already. I don't recall any in previous episodes.
Also, I was enjoying it until they started the romance bollocks, why? Story was fine without. And this obsession with Bashira, like they'd give a shit about 1 person's safety etc.

Still watching though, it's really made me think about what the army actually does.

IssyStark · 12/10/2014 22:19

Typical, tonight the kids decided to play up and DH is away for work, so I have no idea whether it was a good episode or not as it was intrupted so many times. Just as well I decided to record it just in case. Maybe I'll find out tomorrow!

notyummy · 12/10/2014 22:23

Wherever possible it is separate accommodation but depends. Of it's big tents then usually sep tent. If it's a building with rooms then a different room if possible. There are times where it's not possible.

DustBunnyFarmer · 12/10/2014 22:49

I think it's utter tosh too, but somehow I can't stop watching.

The scene with the body on the road/ambush last week was so ridiculous. Not only was she distracting him and probably overheard (I wondered about the radio headsets), but she wasn't even walking directly behind him in his mineswept tracks. Loose cannon...

Bellini12 · 13/10/2014 10:08

Was that the final episode last night and there will be a new series?
I know it was a bit unrealistic (I can't believe Molly's colleagues wouldn't have picked up on her swooning over the captain and they all seemed to fall in love too quickly). However I am enjoying it and the scenes where they were on a mission were quite dramatic.

WipsGlitter · 13/10/2014 10:16

There's another episode next week. It's rubbish but I enjoy it!!

OwlCapone · 13/10/2014 10:57

It was an odd ending with all the silence and no "coming up next week..." preview.

yummypickledeggs · 13/10/2014 11:10

It's compelling viewing in some ways but it's doing absolutely nothing for the drive to get women into the front line!
All the concerns about male soldiers being protective of women personnel, and distracted by romances are being played out right there is Our Girl.
It was a terrible scenario really- 2 men ( mainly Smurf) risking the lives of their comrades all for the love of a woman.

EveDallasRetd · 13/10/2014 11:31

I saw the first one and liked it, but I've hated it more and more each week. The language and the 'off' scenes are realistic, the patrols aren't. Capt James is very realistic in a 'cavalry' way more so than infantry - but Pte Dawes being so involved in the Bashira/Father/SF story isn't - for one, they already know what Bashiras father, brothers, uncle's cousin twice removed would look like - they certainly wouldn't need Dawes to pick him out.

The transporter last night was bollox - they'd have had everyone out of the back of the lorry as first action - and the Afghani Army would have been the ones that approached the truck.

Ahhh it drives me BATTY. I really wanted to like it as well.

(As for Capt James and Dawes - it's not unusual, and they could easily get back together once they are out of theatre, but all the smouldering tension is rubbish. She'd probably be shagging Smurf by now).

Next week will be the kicker for me - Smurf shouldn't have returned after his last injury; psych testing alone take a month, then you have to do at least 28 days rehab once certified fit, if he returns after this one I won't watch again. Same goes for Capt James.

DogCalledRudis · 13/10/2014 11:47

Enjoyed the beginning, but the last episode... What a load of *

PassTheCremeEggs · 13/10/2014 12:40

I agree it's all pretty unrealistic. But a doctor would probably say hospital dramas are unrealistic too. I expect most Sunday night dramas are pretty far off the mark in terms of realism (eg Downton, Homeland etc etc) but I guess the point is to use an interesting topic/theme in which to set a dramatic story. It hasn't pretended to be a documentary.

I love it. And although the script is pretty average (and at times appalling - the bit about Molly having taught him more than a year at Sandhurst and four tours had would probably have upset quite a few people - DH visibly winced...) I think the characters have been done quite well. I recognise a lot of Captain James's mannerisms/characteristics in people I know.

For the people that queried the radio - it's push to talk so the others wouldn't have heard the love confession.

yummypickledeggs · 13/10/2014 15:07

I think it is well acted and the tension-building is good. But the love triangle is far from original- working class lass falling for posh officer while pursued by a working class lad, salt of the earth type....shades of Hardy and Far from the Madding Crowd there....though James isn't perhaps quite as much of a cad.
I actually thought Smurf was going to shoot James from the minute he discovered them all lovey-dovey, which was the plan of the director I think to keep us watching- and also which one of them would take the bullet.
I don't know about the realism but any drama- medical, education, police- is going to annoy people who are in the job and know the reality.

TreadSoftlyOnMyDreams · 13/10/2014 16:07

Total tosh but Captain James is rather nice. Wish I had watched this live rather than Downton which was laughably bad and I had to sit through 15 mins of flipping X Factor and adverts. Must have been mad.

mandy214 · 13/10/2014 16:28

I am very sad and admit to loving it, didn't watch it to start with but watched 3 episodes back to back on the iplayer. I will be gutted if Capt James dies next week!

annabanana19 · 13/10/2014 17:15

I love it. But Capt James.... fuck me......he is a dish.Grin

furcoatbigknickers · 13/10/2014 17:30

Captain James.... Yummy. I love this, I donot care if its unrealistic. Please don't die boss, they must live happily ever after.

annabanana19 · 13/10/2014 18:26

Exactly! Its just TV. Who cares if its not realistic. im watching just for Capt James!

Bellini12 · 13/10/2014 19:53

Yup, Captain James fan here Grin. I had to Google the actor (do it, there's lots of gorgeous pictures online).

SlightlyJadedJack · 13/10/2014 21:16

Another Capt James fan here. It's worth watching just for him despite home being about fifteen years younger than me. Grin

yummypickledeggs · 13/10/2014 22:14

He's the same age as my son so what does that make me ???Shock

lyndie · 13/10/2014 22:23

CremeEggs does your DH think the mission at the end would be regular Army stuff or Special Forces?

annabanana19 · 13/10/2014 22:30

We should start a Captain James fan club. Just too damn gorgeous. I could eat him.....and he's much younger. Needs an older woman to teach him stuff....Blush

jammytoast · 13/10/2014 22:32

I am usually the first to enjoy a good love story, but even I am frustrated at this. I just don't know why love triangles have to find their way into every drama. Why couldn't it have stayed on track and been a serious piece instead of being watered down with soppy crap?

I don't believe that someone like Molly would go gooey eyed at her captain after coming through all the training. Its making her out to be ditsy, and if she was ditsy I doubt she would be in that job.

I do like it, I just feel it could have been so much more.

PassTheCremeEggs · 13/10/2014 22:43

Lyndie - probably SF, (but he also said that scenario where she's somehow the only person who knows what he looks like would just never happen)

PassTheCremeEggs · 13/10/2014 22:49

But I'm not bothered by whether it's that realistic as long as Capt James is still around...Smile Hoping that it'll go for another plot twist next week and it won't be the predictable outcome of him dying.
