Anyone watching this drivel?
although slightly enjoyed the family dynamics going on last night, unfortunately DD's favourite programme and in fact Guardian seems to recommend it Hmm

I haven't watched it because I don't think it can live up to Bluestone 42

RosesandRugby · 06/10/2014 10:39

Im not watching it because the same actress played the same character in the last series of Our Girl where she died and they showed her funeral. I really cant see how they can make another series given she died Hmm

R4roger · 06/10/2014 10:41

oh, surely she wont die?
yes i liked bluestone 42.

Who died Roses? Do you mean the main character or somebody else?

OhYouBadBadKitten · 06/10/2014 10:53

I've been watching it, mostly for the scenery. Plus I rather like the chap in charge. It is drivel though and dh moans about them not using the right helicopters

RosesandRugby · 06/10/2014 11:20

This series isn't a repeat of the last series so I don't know who dies in this one sorry Blush I just get cross when they use the same format/title and the same actors (with the wrong helicopters Wink ) but change the story.
Im going to go and hide under the duvet now Brew

Bellini12 · 06/10/2014 11:24

I don't think she died in the first show?
I'm quite enjoying it in a lighthearted drama way. Especially the captainWink

LightastheBreeze · 06/10/2014 11:24

Its the sort of drivel I enjoy, I was never sure though if she did die at the end of the pilot series. It was a strange ending where you couldn't tell whether they were talking about her or another soldier.

She can't die, I want her to live happily ever after with the handsome captain.

R4roger · 06/10/2014 12:51

aww but what about the welsh man who loves her?

OP posts:
Pooka · 06/10/2014 12:57

She didn't die in the last series. The news clips initially made you think she had died, as did the voice over of her letter home. But it actually ended with her in medical training I think. So the shots of her parents watching the news crying about the girl with "our girl" coffin were actually shots of them watching news about another woman soldier who had died. The training guy was shown reading her last letter, which she had finally got round to writing, and hence the VoiceOver, but obviously it never got sent becUse she didn't die.

God, am too invested in this. Tis shite but I'm rather liking the captain. I'm not sure where they can go with it though, unless he dies. They cannot have a relationship - serious no-no. But don't want him to die.

BikeRunSki · 06/10/2014 12:59

You're right Pooka. She didn't die, I stand corrected.

IneedAwittierNickname · 06/10/2014 12:59

I thought the last series wasnt a while series but a 1 off.
Then this is a full series showing what happened in full iyswim?
I'm enjoying it anyway.

IneedAwittierNickname · 06/10/2014 13:01

Oh Wikipedia informs me k am wrong. Although I am sure I read somewhere that was what happened.
Oh well

Pooka · 06/10/2014 13:04

Sorry bikerunski. Blush as I said, over invested. Watching it while hating it. But liking it. Conflicted. She irritates the life out of me. Totally wound up in herself and bloody unprofessional - of course she could have noticed that smurf wants more than friendship. And mooning over the captain when it would have been drummed into her that he's totally off-limits. It would totally fuck up the effectiveness of the troop or whatever it's called if she got involved with him (though kind of want her to because he's just lovely).

I miss soldier soldier. Rory in it was gorgeous. Think played by dougray Scott. Another officer....

Momagain1 · 06/10/2014 13:09

It came on after whatever had been on before, but whoever was watching that wandered off. I could not stand it. But maybe its a cultural thing. I would like that actress to be in something that doesnt involve being mostly sad and grumpy and east endish.

R4roger · 06/10/2014 13:12

but isnt someone looking for her, so perhaps she will go to another troop, and then they can have a relationship.
i think the captain will die.

As others said Roses were you implying that the main character died in the first one? Because if that's what's holding you back, she didn't!

I love it, even if I can see it is full of utter rubbish that wouldn't happen :)

middleeasternpromise · 06/10/2014 16:21

The bit last night with the man dying in the hospital bed whose speaking fine until he's asked who he was protecting - he suddenly loses the power of speech and shakily raises a bloody finger to point at 'our girl' - serious am dram at its best!

VivaLeBeaver · 06/10/2014 16:24

I was cringing at the script last night as they were approaching the body in the road and she's blathering on "do you love me"?

Who asks that of someone you're not even in a relationship with? Never mind when its your commanding officer and you're in a tense war situation.

OwlCapone · 06/10/2014 16:44

Yes, because that is exactly the conversation to be having when you are walking towards a possible booby trap along a possibly mined road in a hostile country :o

frostyfingers · 06/10/2014 16:49

This had the opportunity to be a really good up to date drama about modern warfare, and the horrors of the recent wars in Afghanistan, Iraq etc. Instead it's turned into a slushy "Mills & Boon" type pile of crap. I watched the first episode, thought it was ok, then within about 10 minutes of the second gave up in despair. I didn't watch it last night, and won't bother with any more. Really disappointed by it.

She wasn't even looking where she was going - kept staring at him! Grin

Yes he's very good looking, but even so! You're in mortal danger. Look where you're going!

Will watch again though. Willing suspension of disbelief and all that. Thought the pilot was much better.
