although slightly enjoyed the family dynamics going on last night, unfortunately DD's favourite programme and in fact Guardian seems to recommend it Hmm

I absolutely loved last year's one but am not convinced about this season. I just can't see how she can moon over Capt James without the rest of the lads seeing it and commenting.

scratchandsniff · 06/10/2014 20:30

The first series was very watchable but has lost its way this series. However, the captain alone is worth watching it for!

angelinterceptor · 06/10/2014 20:42

I prefer bluestone series but watching Our Girl for gratuitous shots of Capt James

Charingcrossbun · 06/10/2014 21:15

Just watched last episode (iplayer so behind the drag curve) and am seething!!
First vaguely realistic British military modern show (except for the wonderful bluestone 42) and all the main character does is disobey orders and make moon eyes at the posh captain! It is sooo stereotyping and annoying!
When he was walking towards the tarp on the ground and ordered her to wait back but she went with him anyway...er you're the medic! If he's blown up you'll be f all use if you were standing next to him!!! Rant over - feel better now! Thing is as annoyed as I am I know I'll watch next week...

lem73 · 07/10/2014 13:03

When she was asking him if he loved when they were walking up to the body, surely everyone else could have heard that over the radio! Never mind. Nothing like a bit of trash once the kids are in bed!

Dickorydockwhatthe · 07/10/2014 23:02

She drives me mad with her acting. The captain is the only good thing about this programme

LightastheBreeze · 08/10/2014 06:31

Do you think they may have deliberately cast the captain to keep us all watching Grin

Seriouslyffs · 08/10/2014 06:36

It is indeed am dram/ Sunday night! Weird as I remember the pilot being rather thoughtful.
Still watching and enjoying though!

IssyStark · 09/10/2014 13:12

Oh thank god, other people who are watching it!

iIcan't believe how much this has gripped me when I know it has gone from being vaguely realistic and slightly thought provoking on moral ambiguiies of modern warfare (I also thought the bit about dealing with going back to civilian life in ep 2 was rather good), to pure hackneyed romance but I really am obsessing about it. Maybe because I'm all for the unresolved sexual tension and with Army Regulations, it would seem that there is nowhere for any of the tension to go.

PassTheCremeEggs · 09/10/2014 22:32

I have to confess I am absolutely loving this series! DH is in the Army and even he said he thinks it's pretty well done (and he usually slates everything like this, pointing out all the inaccuracies - yawn!) I so want Molly and Capt James to get together but I don't know how the writers can actually let that happen without going totally out of bounds. I am concerned that him dying is the only way out of this for the script writers...

R4roger · 10/10/2014 06:44

I see Bluestone 42 on BBC3 now, caught it last night. really funny

CremeEggs I think the only way out for Cpt James is either death or an honorable discharge due to wounds (that said I can't see him being the type to give up on the Army if there were a desk job he could do). I really don't see him resigning his commission or risking a court martial for the sake of Molly, although watching his struggle would be interesting.

OwlCapone · 10/10/2014 09:50

Surely Molly could leave, thus solving the problem.

IssyStark · 10/10/2014 10:37

Owl, if Molly leaves, what chance another series? I'd be surprised if the writer would really want to put her back on civvy street after just one series.

FruitCakey · 10/10/2014 10:46

I am enjoying the series. I watched the first installment too.

I can't watch it with DH though because he is an infantry soldier who has done 2x tours of Afghanistan. Therefore he picks at every single detail, which the show has somehow got wrong! Grin

PassTheCremeEggs · 10/10/2014 10:51

So is my DH FruitCakey - he says the FOB is realistic but the landscape not so much.

I really think he's going to die the more I think about it. Although actually, as long as they're not in the same chain of command there isn't anything wrong with them getting together. Might take a return to Bastion and a transfer out to another unit for Molly? But that doesn't seem very dramatic unfortunately and so I worry it's going to be the former. And the BBC publicity shows footage of Molly at a military funeral back in the UK....

LondonRocks · 10/10/2014 10:52

I bet Capt James dies saving Molly...

PassTheCremeEggs · 10/10/2014 10:58

Noooo.... I so don't want him to die! I've become unreasonably obsessed. Perhaps because he reminds me of my DH...Smile

MummyTheGregor · 10/10/2014 11:10

I've just watched ep 3.... not rtwt so may already have been said before but isn't it annoying that just because there's a female she going to fall for a colleague....
that said I really enjoyed it.....

IssyStark · 10/10/2014 11:15

cremeEggs, of course she could be moved. Doh! on my part. I was thinking more in the context of James being her commanding officer, so if he's not blown up and she's moved to another command, then they could get on with resolving the UST in series 2.

Making us think the worse is a trope of the writer - he even had people upthread believing that it was Molly who died at the end of the one-off, so maybe the funeral pics are just a big tease? (clinging on to hope...)

LightastheBreeze · 10/10/2014 11:25

Perhaps the funeral is the welsh soldier.

LondonRocks · 10/10/2014 13:51

The funeral thing could be anyone from the platoon –I bet they want another series!

I hope Capt James doesn't die. I think, judging from what they say about him, he loves the army first. He'll not let it go too far, you'll see.

PassTheCremeEggs · 10/10/2014 20:05

Really hope you're right London...! In the opening credits there's a shot of Molly putting a ring on a string round her neck - I wonder what the story will be with that?

notyummy · 10/10/2014 20:13

I am ex military and like charingcrossbin I had to stop watching. It is utter shite. Dialogue is wooden beyond belief and the relationships between her and the rest of the platoon, and her and the captain just dreadfully portrayed. And as for the boring old 'she's a brave cockney sparrow really' bit about disobeying an order. Words fail me.

WipsGlitter · 12/10/2014 21:28

For those involved in the military - would a woman share a tent with men? Would they not get a separate one?
