although slightly enjoyed the family dynamics going on last night, unfortunately DD's favourite programme and in fact Guardian seems to recommend it Hmm

I think they should go for a prequel, where Captain James (got to get that guy back in uniform) is in Afghanistan and gets Gerraints body. Then back in England taking charge of 2 section and training them. That gives them opportunity to develop further the other soldiers characters, Smurf can legitimately come back and we don't have to share Capt James with Molly! However if they wanted a ' love interest' I could be persuaded!!!

HappyNap · 22/10/2014 00:25

Just re watched them singing the duet together in episode 2 (around 56 min), aah what bliss Envy

Smurfingreat · 22/10/2014 00:27

The "ditto" in the meeting is hilarious, love the idea of using it to out other fans. The other option would be to wander around calling people cockwombles, which I must admit I'm dying to do!

Just watched episode 2 again and whoever mentioned the West Ham top losing its sleeves on the way across the compound was right. Obviously that was the only reason I needed to watch it again Grin

Smurfingreat · 22/10/2014 00:28

Happy think you and I must have been doing synchronised watching!

BrodiesBabe · 22/10/2014 00:39

Ha! I just indulged in some duet watching too! So gorgeous.

I'm with you mummyreeds - As much as I love him and Molly together, how about just giving him his own series?? That way, they can set it whenever (pre this series even) and he can definitely be back in uniform.

Just skipped through all of eps 2 and 3 for his bits. He does this gorgeous little disbelieving smirky sigh thing all the time. Gah. The things that man does to me!

lyndie · 22/10/2014 07:28

A prequel is the actual bestest idea ever!

Smurfingreat - I am surrounded by men at work and there are very few women around. In my little section, I am the only woman and they know I have a low tolerance when it comes to bad language so if I started calling them "c*ckwombles", they truly wouldn't know what had hit them! Mind you, one or two of them would live up to the name. I shout at them if I hear the "F" word, so they would be very surprised to know I had heard Captain James and Molly come out with it so many times, yet I hadn't even winced! (OK, after about the fifteenth time, it sort of washes over me).

In the funeral scene at the church, has anyone commented on just how gorgeous CJ looks in his uniform (dress uniform - is that the term?) It's such a sad set of scenes that I've not really gone back and studied it in detail but he does look incredibly handsome. Was it NappyValleyMum who was so clever as to be able to take stills on her iPad and then doctor them? If so, I wouldn't mind a shot of him in that particular uniform.... Pretty please.

I did have one minor success yesterday as a neighbour told me she had recorded Our Girl but not watched it yesterday so I urged her to watch all five episodes back to back. Hurray! I may have somebody else to discuss it with shortly! Must pretend not to come across as totally obsessed however....

I realise Im in the minority but I really didn't like him in his dress uniform at the funeral. It just didn't seem like him-he seemed really false and stand offish.

I keep trying to engage people in conversations about it as well and everyone keeps looking at me like Im mad!

I agree a prequel would be amazing.

lyndie · 22/10/2014 09:24

I think Bashira genuinely liked Molly but was under the most enormous pressure from her father. She was doing the job he set out for her but she put herself at risk by sharing intel with Molly about the attack on the mountains.

I have already watched episode 2 again today Blush of my many favourite moments Captain James working out in his fatigues, singing at the end and weirdly getting his eye washed out at end makes me feel a bit funny Smile

Bellini12 · 22/10/2014 09:58

I haven't gone back and watched the whole series yet (will defo get the DVD!). I too have kept my Capt James crush from DH (although I'd know he would just laugh!) but thank goodness for you lovely lot to share my obsession with!

But the thing that struck me (other than the immensely romantic love story) was the series as a whole and how it was beautifully shot, extremely well acted - a look could say a thousand words - the photography was sublime, the scenery, the silhouettes, the lighting and the music. I believe all these things together have had us all mesmerised!

Did anyone ever watch 'Band of Brothers'? I got pretty sucked into that especially as the Major (Damion Lewis) was based on a real person.

I've just discovered the FB page to fuel my obsession! When will I get back to normality? Hopefully half term will distract me!

PassTheCremeEggs · 22/10/2014 10:08

Yes Band of Brothers was brilliant. Totally harrowing but absolutely brilliant.

I'm watching episode 5 again while DS has a nap. Just can't get enough...I think Capt James looks great at the funeral (it's called service dress, or No (as in number) 2 dress, or just No 2's)

Beingfrank · 22/10/2014 10:17

DH and I watched the series together. He enjoyed it too but he has no idea why I was so into it! I haven't had a crush like this on an actor/character since Mark Eadie/Andrew Stanton in Grange Hill circa 1979/80. So you can see I'm old enough to know better!

Thank you for all the you tube links, the fanfic etc. I would never have found all those!

firegirl · 22/10/2014 10:26

Yes yes yes a prequel, great idea!! Let's all start emailing whoever we need to at the BBC. Captain James looks so much better in his uniform than he does in his civvies, need to see more of the Bossman. By the way, whoever mentioned it before, my DH is also constantly coming in and interrupting at crucial parts of whichever clip I'm watching for the umpteenth time grrrh! He is completely bewildered with all this
bless him.

HappyNap · 22/10/2014 10:36

No not a prequel, we need series 2! Smile

ihearttc · 22/10/2014 10:43

Ive just rewatched Episode 3 again.

The bit in the tent where he writes Rosabaya on her arm is so good. Its so well written...you can almost feel the tension and chemistry coming off both of them.

HappyNap · 22/10/2014 10:44

Iheart, and to top it off, he's got lovely handwriting! Smile

ihearttc · 22/10/2014 11:01

He has indeed...very beautiful writing but then I would expect nothing else!

Ive just googled images of him (Im not obsessed at all!) and on one of them is a link to his management company. Its called Hamilton Hodell and there is a whole page all about him if anyone else wants to have a look. I really can't do a link for that :-( There is also a showreel of things he has been in.

He is 6ft 2 apparently as well.

BiddyPop · 22/10/2014 11:06

Hold on, who died? I thought Smurf was better and Captain was pretty shook, but we had to give up halfway through as a manic week this week meant sleep was more important. When we left it, Smurf and Mollie were having sat outside Capt's room all night, but he was much better, ex wife had been to visit and rest of the Unit had turned up.

ihearttc · 22/10/2014 11:16

Smurf died Biddypop...he had a bleed on his brain that wasn't diagnosed. He collapsed on the pitch at West Ham football club.

You mean you missed all the lovely stuff with Molly and Bossman as well?? Go watch on i player!

I don't think any of my male colleagues would have been remotely surprised if I called them cockwombles Iloveblue, I'm obviously not as refined as you are! Grin.

Just found a new video, but my computer for some reason will not copy the link. Never had this problem before, so will have to wait for tech support to get home from work!

In the meantime look at Molly & James - Jessie Ware - Say you love me, on Youtube. Apologies if anyone has already posted this one.

BrodiesBabe · 22/10/2014 11:40

To be honest, I don't really mind if it's a prequel or Series 2 as long as we get more Capt James!

I find I'm appreciating the writing and acting much more the second time and finding it more believable, if I can say that (not that I found it hard to believe in first time). I think it's because I was so panicky that they weren't going to get it together first time of watching that I spent too much time analysing everything and reading into things that maybe weren't there. What has struck me watching again and knowing that he's as dotty for her as she is for him is how natural and human he really is. He is like a little boy at some points and I really love that. He's flawed and realistic. Love, love that.

It's been mentioned before about the cinematography (can you use that term for a TV series??). It was beautifully shot. I remember particularly a scene in Episode 4 where Smurf and Molly are in the back room of the bunker (just before Smurf exits, Capt enters and ... sigh, bliss). Smurf is standing looking out of the window with the light coming in. It is an absolutely gorgeous shot - looks like a painting.

Dress uniform at funeral - I think at the first time of watching I was still too shocked by Smurf's death to react to it too much, but, yes, that will do nicely, sir. Wink

Oh, and is the working out bit in ep 2? I thought I'd watched all his bits (ahem) last night but I must have missed that bit. Argh! That's one of my fave bits. Molly just cannot help sneak a peak. Who can blame her?

Yes, still obsessed ...

OrangeSunset · 22/10/2014 11:43

Oh I'm so glad I found you! Have been entirely alone in my CJ obsession to date. To echo many posters, it's not something I normally indulge in, but I really have bought in to the drama and story of it all and the outrageous attractiveness of the bloke.

I wasn't really bothered until the 'rosabaya' scene, but that did literally stop me in my tracks! Swoon.
