Anyone watching this drivel?
although slightly enjoyed the family dynamics going on last night, unfortunately DD's favourite programme and in fact Guardian seems to recommend it Hmm

In the 'sex scene' at his parents place- it is so clearly an hotel because just behind him on the wall is a phone- the kind you'd use to ring for service. I doubt if anyone has that type of phone in their house in a bedroom. Note even the upper classes.

lyndie · 20/10/2014 16:27

The Twitter Q&A at the end the writer said he had resigned but it looked to me as if he was rehabbing and would resign at the end of that. I've done a cheeky rewatch again today too!

R4roger · 20/10/2014 16:29

the lack of sex scene was a relief as we were watching with DD and I could feel the cringing embarrassment

How old is your DD?

Bellini12 · 20/10/2014 17:25

Oh my, I think I'm going to be lost now Our Girl has finished. I think it did really well even up against Homeland and Downton. I don't care how plausible it was, I really invested in the characters and thought the acting was great (not to mention sparking the first crush I've had in YEARS - I too am a 41 year old mother of 2 who should know better but Capt James just did it for me!)

I just wonder how they could have Molly & Capt James together in another series other than breaking them up (class differences?) Though of course I hope not!

yummypickledeggs · 20/10/2014 17:31

well maybe it will be an age difference thingy?
she's supposed to be 18- but actually looks older imo-( she's 26 in RL) and he must be older than that ( in the prog.)

Final interview with Ben Aldridge on BBC FB page - hopefully a hint at a second series with them still together?!

Smurfingreat · 20/10/2014 18:34

I agree that Molly surprised him at the end. Looked like total unanticipated delight to me.

annabanana19 · 20/10/2014 18:35

Nappy-im still thinking too. Cant get sex-on-legs/sex god Capt James out of my head...too gorgeous. Far too gorgeous.

Smurfingreat · 20/10/2014 19:01

Nappy, Anna, me too. It feels slightly weird being this obsessed, I swear that if I lived on my own I'd have posters of Cpt James up on my bedroom wall. That way he'd be the last thing I see - every day.... Grin

lyndie · 20/10/2014 19:12

I could barely sleep last night! I am 35, and married!

Smurfingreat · 20/10/2014 19:23

I'm 36 and married lyndie! So only 7 years older than CJ, certainly not old enough to be his mum...

mandy214 · 20/10/2014 19:28

Nappy he "desires her instinctively" THIS. YES. The look on his face is possibly my 2nd favourite moment of the series (the absolute favourite being when she goes off on R&R and he makes eye contact with her in the helicopter and you see him taking a deep breath). Seriously, by day I am a (well respected) professional. I only started watching it last Sunday on iplayer. I have been reduced to a giddy teenager in a week. I still can't believe I stood in the Nespresso shop with my children and daydreamed Blush.

Ladies, I think the recent posts actually demonstrate that I am in fact the biggest fan. I didn't notice the cast on the wrong leg - if you weren't looking at his face whenever he was on screen, you clearly need to join the back of the queue Grin.

I still don't get the timescales - when the helicopter landed in Bastion last night and Molly ran to the hospital, it said April 2014. That can't be right can it?

ihearttc · 20/10/2014 19:29

Ive had 4 tv "crushes" in my life and this by far is the worst of them all!

I seriously need to get a grip honestly!! The others were actually quite embarrassing thinking about it but Im glad to know that there are lots of us obsessed with Captain James...makes me feel so much better about obsessing about him!

lyndie · 20/10/2014 19:40

Haha I'm a doctor and this year I've been 'afflicted' by the Musketeers and Captain James. It must be something hormonal. If my colleagues ever found out!

ihearttc · 20/10/2014 19:47

At least your crushes are sexy...apart from Captain James I actually have no idea what I was thinking-Pacey from Dawsons Creek, Justin Burton from Hollyoaks and Sam from Holby!!

Captain James wins hands down every time. Although I have to say I much prefer him all dirty than clean!

Ilovelblue · 20/10/2014 19:55

Well ladies, we are all still clearly obsessed and suffering withdrawal symptoms. Have been thinking how we can extend this - our recently discovered fantasy world. Apologies if this sounds like an A level English exam (and Captain James/Ben wasn't even born when I did my last A level exam). How about a few ideas to throw into the mix to carry on this thread? One or two of these have been touched on already I think.

(a) In the restaurant scene, did you find him offering to order for her romantic or just highlighting the class difference? (Did he think she couldn't work her way through a menu in a posh establishment?)
(b) As much as we wanted to see full on rampant sex (oh did we!!), did it fire our imagination more for it all to happen behind closed doors? Look at the conversations it's sparked amongst us!
(c) How romantic did the writer intend the series to be? Most of it was just hinted at (as in c) and was he perhaps surprised at the way the Captain James/Molly story has been received?
(d) For the next series (there has to be one, there just has to be one), a couple of themes could be the class difference and post traumatic stress disorder.

Only a few ideas..... no idea if anyone wants to carry this on.

mandy214 · 20/10/2014 20:14

Answers on a post card :

(a) a bit of both. Partly I think because he's an officer (and used to being in charge), maybe he'd been there before and she clearly hadn't, he was trying to make her feel comfortable, perhaps trying too hard because he was nervous. Then her reaction is showing she's more than capable, can stand on her own two feet, can take it in her stride.
(b) as I said earlier, it wasn't necessarily the lack of graphic detail, it was the fact that they were quite sedate about it all. Even if the storyline had hinted at rampant sex that he needed her naked the minute the door closed, that would have been right up my street better.
(c) I think they must have known they would have chemistry but it is so far from the original film (no romance at all) that I think the writer might not have anticipated the reaction / how it played out on screen.
(d) Other issues - separation / him potentially coping with the loss of a career where she is clearly flying. Issues with cold fish ex-wife / child. Issues with Bashira (her being recognised at the school last night) / compromising Quaseem.

ihearttc · 20/10/2014 20:16

I think he was initially just trying to be romantic but it definitely highlighted the class difference. But I don't think that bothers him one little bit. His wife was obviously MC and that didn't work out so I like to think this time he is going for real love above everything else.

furcoatbigknickers · 20/10/2014 20:18

I keep having to look at cpt James on my phone.Blush every spare moment thinking about Molly and Charles... Charlie would be better. Oh how I hope it all works out.

Timothy80 · 20/10/2014 20:19

Have never posted before, as thought I was rather too old to be on Mumsnet, even though I have been a Mum three times over! By the way, my nickname is in honour of my (male) cat, (now departed) and I am female! As regards age difference, Captain James is younger than my youngest son; beat that! I agree with everyone else; have never been so obsessed with a character (as far as I can remember, but then my memory isn't what it was!) As mentioned already, it is the character that appeals, rather than the actor (although he seems pleasant enough). I think it's the posh accent and manners that do it (oh, and of course the uniform).

furcoatbigknickers · 20/10/2014 20:22

Oh gawd, i've not confessed my new crush after Edward from twilight to Dh yet, 13 year old is dobbing me im.Hmm

furcoatbigknickers · 20/10/2014 20:23

Dd thinks my crush is weird.Shock what does she know.

mandy214 · 20/10/2014 20:26

furcoat Well Capt James Ben Aldridge says in that interview that he'd really like it to work out, that he'd like to think of them as making it work / going the distance because they've fought for it, bonded over their experiences etc. I think the writer should clearly have Capt James (and all of mumsnet) in mind when he writes the next series.
