Ilovelblue · 20/10/2014 21:02

Is it not? Hahahahaha.

furcoatbigknickers · 20/10/2014 21:04

Dd didn't dob me in so I confessed. Feel v naughty.

Longandleggy · 20/10/2014 21:52

I am also obsessed with the captain! and also James Norton who is in Grantchester. Even though he played a psychotic killer in Happy Valley, he is now playing someone much more acceptably fanciable i.e. not a rapist/murderer. Phew! So I spent a lot of time last night thinking who do I fancy more...think it might be the captain (Ben as I call him) 'cos of his brown eyes...and I am old enough to be mum to both of them. SAD!!!!

ihearttc · 20/10/2014 22:10

There is another lovely bit...episode 2 in the tent when he calls her Dawesy! He wants her so much there...

cherin · 20/10/2014 22:14

Ladies, you are so funny!
My only justification/consolation in this madness is that DH has more than a passing resemblance to CJ, so it must mean I really love him...if even for my tv crush I choose him!
:-)
(DH is slightly taller and green eyed. Must get him to wear more kaki?)

Anyway
Storyline is the n-th variation of Pygmalion. But this time the male is really handsome, playful and not snobby. Impossible not to fall for it.
I don't want to have another series. I think it ended just where it was supposed to be. From now on, it's up to us to make up a future for them :-)

BrodiesBabe · 20/10/2014 22:16

I think the next series should just be called 'Our Man' and feature Yours Truly in uniform then more uniform with stern looks and ordering people about in a stern, efficient but ultimately caring and sexy way.

cherin · 20/10/2014 22:18

Ah, coming out: previous crushes were few and very literary (Austen, Gaskell, the usual suspects). But I found The Crimson Field' captain Gillian also very much my type. Anyone watched that?

ihearttc · 20/10/2014 22:24

Oh yes I watched The Crimson Field and yes Gillian was lovely (although Scottish accents do nothing for me!) BBC didn't do another series of that so seriously hope they do another series of this!

annabanana19 · 20/10/2014 22:26

BBC should make a programme and call it Boss Man.....with just him in it occasionally naked.

Smurfingreat · 20/10/2014 22:44

Ok, answers to A and B here.

Been analysing the restaurant scene a lot (how sad am I). The first time I watched it I was gutted, he just didn't seem like Cpt James and I honestly thought that would be the end of them, especially when he asked if she wanted him to order for her. Having watched it again, I actually think that it's pretty sweet he took Molly to that restaurant to start with. It would be unrealistic not that that has ever been a problem with OG to think that he didn't carefully consider the restaurant choice. He didn't dumb down his choice of somewhere to celebrate a special occasion by presuming her reaction to it. Maybe he did have a bit of a wobble and wonder if he had made the wrong decision and she was feeling uncomfortable hence the offer to order for her.

Still not sure about Captain Dawsey getting it on on screen. There is a lot to be said for leaving things to the imagination, (in answer to C I think the writer knew exactly what he was up to). I would love to believe that the Beeb were clever enough to predict the vast range of panting females and decided to let us picture things our own way, but maybe it was just a happy accident. This way we can all envision what we want and nobody is disappointed by a rubbish sex scene, but god would I love to have seen some naked action from those two.

I shall ponder more upon D.

Smurfingreat · 20/10/2014 22:45

anna Do you think we could get crowd funding for your idea?

annabanana19 · 20/10/2014 22:51

Well I pay my TV licence! Isn't that funding?Grin

furcoatbigknickers · 20/10/2014 23:05

Still swooning...that is all. Btw is ben gay?

Ilovefluffysheep · 20/10/2014 23:15

Agree with you all, Captain James is quite simply lush! I don't watch that much tv (in fact Holby and Casualty are my only really regular things I watch) but watched this series as I had watched the one off episode they did and really enjoyed it.

Absolutely loved the series, gutted its finished already, and have a serious crush on the boss man!!

BrodiesBabe · 20/10/2014 23:25

Ilovelblue - I'm still not sure about the ordering for her bit. That really freaked me out. Not sure it was necessary but if it wasn't showing their incompatibility (which it ultimately didn't do, thank God!) it possibly simply highlighted that he's sweet and quirky...?!?!
I could have done with a little more action in the bedroom (or elsewhere). Didn't need full on 9 1/2 weeks but they pretty much cut even before their lips had met last night! I think the chemistry was allowed to leak away a bit due to this and that was a slight failing on the part of the prog makers. They needed to show their full on passion for each other. Having said that, perhaps they deliberately avoided it as they wanted to show that it wasn't just about the sex. That was probably it. Still, couldn't help feeling a little cheated!
I think exploring the difficulties of class differences and PTSD in the next series would be a good one, as long as they still get a long period of lovey dovey-ness first. Now that we've got it, I don't want to lose it!

Oh, and Longandleggy, I'm also crushing madly on James Norton in Grantchester, but not to the extent of our beloved Captain at the moment ... give it time. And also loved the captain guy in Crimson Field. Really, really hope there's another series of that. I bet Sidney Chambers (JN's character in Grantchester) was a captain when he was in the army. What is it about sexy captains?

Can't find out anything one way or another to figure out if he's gay or not. But my crush on Ben Whishaw seems to have got even bigger since I found out he's gay so I don't think it will help alleviate my unrequited lust one way or another.

And for those who want to alleviate their lust another way, lookee here... a new and fruity as hell fanfic ... If you prefer to leave the bedroom door closed, I'd advise not reading. If you're happy to waltz right in ... www.fanfiction.net/s/10770367/1/My-Man

Sabrinnnnnnnna · 21/10/2014 00:18

Storyline is the n-th variation of Pygmalion.

It is! DH and I had this exact conversation after last week's episode. I'm still yet to be convinced that the gorgeous Captain would really be smitten by Dawsey - they almost had it a couple of times - like the singing Don't go breaking my heart bit, but I'm a bit meh about that. Haven't watched yesterdays yet though.

Smurfingreat · 21/10/2014 01:05

Jesus frickin christ Brodies, where the hell did you find that? Been scouring the fan fic and was so disheartened about the lack of genuine believable Captain Dawsey action I thought I was going to have to try and write my own. That is so good I don't think it's worth even trying to better it. Flowers

OwlCapone · 21/10/2014 07:47

I love the fact that there was no sex scene. It proves that they are actually unnecessary as all the tension was conveyed perfectly without one.

I think he offered to order for her in the restaurant to make her relax and snap out of any discomfort - she is the kind of person who will prove you wrong if you tell her she can't do something.

BrodiesBabe · 21/10/2014 09:50

One should always keep an eye on fanfiction.net's M stories for quiet, me times. I couldn't believe it when I was first introduced to that site. Quite an eye opener. Wink A lot of it is utter crap, but there are also some extremely well written stories out there.

However, I quite agree that visually in the series a rampant sex scene would have been unnecessary and would have even spoiled their dynamic. But cutting straight after he leaned down for a kiss was a bit too sudden. Nothing wrong with a nice, long kiss! However, I find reading something privately can be quite different, when you can only imagine everything in your own head. At first it can be a little uneasy, but I find I soon adjust!! Wink Not for everyone though, I understand completely.

NappyValleyMum, I empathise and understand your feelings. I went through something very similar a few years ago due to a similar catalyst and it changed my outlook on life completely. I didn't move away but I took up a new hobby that I had never had the confidence or motivation to do before and which has taken my life in a new direction and made me into a much more confident person. One of the wonderful things about something like this, and this thread is a perfect example, is that ten/fifteen years ago, we would probably all have been sitting at home feeling guilty for these feelings and confused about what they stir in us, whereas now we can share on forums such as these and realise that we're all pretty much the same and it's absolutely normal, liberating and rather wonderful to feel this way. I have seen this time and again in online forums. It can be a very empowering and liberating experience. Smile
