"NappyValleyMum" - Yes, I felt that way. I was cacking it during the restaurant scene. I thought she'd get to his massive house - on the Royal Crescent no less (ie worth oodles of millions) - and say - Nah, this isn't me. Let's not have great sex after all. Bye.

But luckily, they shagged. Even though we didn't get to see it. And she went back to his massive house on Royal Crescent at the end to help with the DIY.

Smurfingreat · 19/10/2014 23:50

I think the writers were toying with us. The meal scene has grown on me, but when he asked if he could choose for her I heard death bells ringing. Thank god for the checked shirt, stubble and cheeky grin at the end. Here's praying for season 2. I too have loved himit.

mandy214 · 19/10/2014 23:51

nappyvalley unfortunately not in London or I so would have taken you up on that offer. I have tried in real life to drop not too gushy lead-ins to conversations about it (i.e oh, there is a series on at the moment that was filmed in South Africa) and not one - NOT ONE - friend has watched it and given me the opportunity to discuss in detail.

I thought the chemistry was right (well I would say that) because it would be different coming home and trying to live with the reality of normality and seeing each other in a different light. I thought the sneaky peaks at each other were probably because they were nervous, probably the first time they've been for dinner, knew they'd move things on etc .

Cross post with Nappy, yep restaurant scene was painful, really felt it was there to say, ok on tour, but here's life - not gonna work suckers..Would love to be near London to catch up, unfortunately miles away, but loving the chance to chat with you lovely ladies Grin

mandy214 · 19/10/2014 23:55

Smurfing I think you're right, a couple of lines hint at probably making social class a bit of an obstacle in the next series - ie him asking her if he should choose for her- but it might be that they were showing that she could handle herself in that situation. Loved the line where he said he didn't want her calling him bossman "for the rest of their lives".

HappyNap · 19/10/2014 23:57

I don't think it's just about his good looks - it's his perfect gentleman mannerisms, attitude and accent, combined with his good looks that make him so attractive to women.

Smurfingreat · 19/10/2014 23:58

I would happily call him bossman for a very long time Grin

Smurfingreat · 20/10/2014 00:02

My little brother went to Sandhurst and don't remember finding any of his colleagues/ officers attractive. Their manners were beautiful, I fondly recollect being called Maam! In retrospect maybe my stroppy goth self missed out, oops!

Smurfingreat · 20/10/2014 00:12

Dare someone to get a Rosabaya tatto...

mandy214 · 20/10/2014 00:12

I couldn't understand the checked shirt youre talking about until I read about the end of the credits. I stopped watching once they rolled!

Im glad she went back to the lumberjack. ..phwoar!

I also thing the wife understood "ditto".

PassTheCremeEggs · 20/10/2014 07:38

Totally agree about the restaurant scene and alarm bells ringing in highlighting differences between them. But the funny thing is, if you watch it again a few times it doesn't seem so awkward after all. Maybe because we know they're going to make it, we're not looking for the awful signs they're not.

Love the bit where he kisses her hand and she asks whether he's just wiped cabbage on it. The humour between them is great.

Also love how good he is - telling her he wants her to be brilliant and not asking her to stay etc.

I did wonder how a next series would pan out with him in the background though. I fear he might just disappear and the next series is her on her own doing her own thing with a vague explanation as to why they didn't stay together. Just not sure how a non-serving ex officer boyfriend fits into this kind of story?

PassTheCremeEggs · 20/10/2014 07:42

Also I agree - no one I know seems to have watched it!! How is this possible, particularly when all my friends where I live are the wives of army officers!

LightastheBreeze · 20/10/2014 07:55

I also missed the end of the credits, it suddenly stopped as I was trying to record Downton and Homeland and I had recording clash, just watched that end bit on iPlayer. To think I could have missed that final bit if it weren't for this thread.

yummypickledeggs · 20/10/2014 08:02

So did something happen at the end as the credits came on? I switched off then.
