Who else is settling in for the evening? Missed most of the first half due to Doctor who but we have lots of cheese and biscuits and wine and hooray!

Just the right pitch for me, I'm no Julie Andrews. Feed the Birds, beautiful song.

agree, the other concerts are better.
I loved the strauss and brahms ones.
tried for tickets for 1812 (if only for the cannons) but was too late...

It used to be the Fantasia didn't it?

ItsNotEasyBeingGreen · 13/09/2014 22:01

I wonder if the musicians get nervous? I mean they must perform ALL the time but still... I think I would be quite nervous.

cruikshank · 13/09/2014 22:02

OhYouBad I don't really want to spoil your thread with serious talk, but I wanted to reply that I completely agree with you that something as big as the Proms shows that western art music isn't elitist/snobby - that's what I was driving at with my post about how popular the festival is, globally even. Which is why I think that it would be nice if there was more of The Proms on mainstream channels - indeed, if there was more music of that sort being broadcast full stop, and not this lite-classic stuff because that's all the plebs who don't watch BBC4 can handle. Even R3 is dumbing down now, and that makes me sad - how can people appreciate the good stuff if they can't even hear it, or if it's presented in bite-sized chunks in a way that the composer never intended? I hope that you and your dd enjoyed the proms you went to this summer and that you enjoy many more together.

SecretNutellaFix · 13/09/2014 22:04

It did.

They must have felt it needed updating.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 13/09/2014 22:04

We really loved it :) some of the regulars gave us their spot at the rail and clued me in a bit. We are planning on taking some of dds friends along next summer.

I'm a bit behind (watching on catch up) but I really like the violin piece. Does that make me a snob???

HesterShaw · 13/09/2014 22:05

I think that's a good point, cruikshank despite what I said earlier. I think the BBC is very often guilty of not giving people credit, just assuming their poor little attention spans will be tiny.

mausmaus · 13/09/2014 22:06

knowing quite a few musicians, they all get nervous. some more than others.

HesterShaw · 13/09/2014 22:06

Oooh it's Roderick!!!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 13/09/2014 22:06
