Who else is settling in for the evening? Missed most of the first half due to Doctor who but we have lots of cheese and biscuits and wine and hooray!

Joshua Fit the Battle of Jericho is one of my favourite Spirituals.

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 13/09/2014 21:36

Odd choice of clothing though. Is it meant to be a costume?

OhYouBadBadKitten · 13/09/2014 21:36

But the one thing I learned is that the proms isn't snobby or elitist or for posh people or for those who know what they are talking about. It's for normal people as much as it is for those who regularly listen to classical music.

I am friends with one of the soloists tonight and just about bursting with pride :-D

SecretNutellaFix · 13/09/2014 21:36

I also sang this at School Lesley.

WildThong · 13/09/2014 21:36

Well I like Rule Britannia so tough

but not shouting it as I'm in Scotland

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 13/09/2014 21:37

Oh, is this why he's wearing it?

OhYouBadBadKitten · 13/09/2014 21:37

Ermm I'm not saying that those who regularly listen to classical music aren't normal Blush

Oh I adore him. I hope he does Shenandoah - a big American bass voice is what it needs.

I don't think you can sneer at the Last Night as it does bring in new audiences, and the BBC do advertise the whole series repeatedly both on the radio and on the tv. I'm just sorry that during the summer I'm working so damn hard that I don't get to see some of my favourites and some music which is new to me as well. The last night means many things to many people - for me it's the end of summer and the start of some time off!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 13/09/2014 21:38

That's so cool Florence.

I love Old Man River.

No, this is his second piece of two.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 13/09/2014 21:39

I think enough serious talk from me, it's a fun night.

Lesleythegiraffe · 13/09/2014 21:41

I've really enjoyed the Proms this year thanks for BBC4 - lots of stuff I like this year

ItsNotEasyBeingGreen · 13/09/2014 21:41

He had a lovely voice.

HesterShaw · 13/09/2014 21:41

Me too! I want more of him. I think I've got a major crush.

Last Night brings in people to classical music who might not otherwise consider listening. I've never heard Roderick Williams before- I shall now go looking for more of his work, and so the music flows out.

SecretNutellaFix · 13/09/2014 21:43

I'll let you in on a secret.

This is the first year that DH is watching. We've been together since 1998, so it takes time to reach out to people who might not otherwise have any interest in Classical/light/orchestral music.
