Who else is settling in for the evening? Missed most of the first half due to Doctor who but we have lots of cheese and biscuits and wine and hooray!

I've just tuned in and I'm not liking this violin piece. What is it?!

cruikshank · 13/09/2014 21:23

OhYouBBK would you really not have gone to one of the longest, biggest music festivals in the world were it not for the last night of sub-ClassicFM bilge tacked on to it populated by braying fools?

SecretNutellaFix · 13/09/2014 21:23

This violin piece is not firing my blood. I can see and hear how incredibly technical it is, but it's not doing much for my pleasure. Just waiting for it to be over. :(

I sound like a Phillistine.

Picturesinthefirelight · 13/09/2014 21:24

I like it.

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 13/09/2014 21:24

Ravel Tzigane apparently.

SecretNutellaFix · 13/09/2014 21:24

It's Ravel's Tzigane.

ItsNotEasyBeingGreen · 13/09/2014 21:24

It's not pleasing to the ear at all. I'm not a classical music buff though... I like the popular stuff.

We are getting Rule Brittania, and Pomp and Circumstance Smile

OhYouBadBadKitten · 13/09/2014 21:25

Nope cruik, I'm afraid I'm rather an uneducated philistine when it comes to music, but I'm trying to learn more.

I want to shout at her "Just play the damn instrument woman, rather than flinging yourself around."

HesterShaw · 13/09/2014 21:26

Tzigane? Isn't that the Romany stuff he collected?

OhYouBadBadKitten · 13/09/2014 21:26

Oh yay, that is good news!

I like this piece cos it's a bit strange.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 13/09/2014 21:28

Glad it wasn't just us not enjoying that piece. DH is out so the DCs and I are snuggled up in bed with our union jacks watching it.

HesterShaw · 13/09/2014 21:28

Oooh, a duet!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 13/09/2014 21:28

Think so Hester.

SecretNutellaFix · 13/09/2014 21:29

LA Cucurahca

ItsNotEasyBeingGreen · 13/09/2014 21:30

I'm worried her hair is going to her caught up in the strings.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 13/09/2014 21:31

Keep coming with the names Hester!

This is amusing me.

cruikshank · 13/09/2014 21:32

See, that's what I think is a shame OhYouBad. The Proms is massive. I mean, really, hugely massive. People travel from all over the world to perform there. Shit, they travel from all over the world to be in the audience. I've been to Proms where the only chance of getting a ticket is from a tout, because they've all sold out months previously. It really is a very big deal. But if you didn't watch BBC4 you'd never know that all of that incredible truly world-class music was going on, there, in London, all summer, and that it is also important music that draws a big audiences night after night. But if all you watched was BBC1, you'd think that it was just one night with a load of posh wankers hooraying about fucking Rule Britannia.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 13/09/2014 21:32

Oooo pressies.

OP posts:
PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 13/09/2014 21:33

But all those 'posh wankers' have to have gone to lots of the other proms to get a ticket tonight...

ItsNotEasyBeingGreen · 13/09/2014 21:34

Ooohhh we used to sing this at primary school.

Lesleythegiraffe · 13/09/2014 21:35

I do like a good baritone but haven't heard of this guy before
