Just thinking about the comment about why did Paul and Mary pick the technical challenge they did when they knew Chetna would be baking the same thing in her signature bake......

Did Paul and Mary know? I know that the contestants have to decide in advance and tell the production team what they'll be baking. But do the production team pass that information on to Paul and Mary? Or do they keep Paul and Mary in the dark so it's a surprise for them and the cameras can pick up good reactions if the contestants come out with strange ideas or ingredients?

I've just learnt I've been saying baklava wrong my entire life.

Igneococcus · 01/10/2014 20:13

Oooh baclava, I love a good baclava.

KenDoddsDadsDog · 01/10/2014 20:14

I always say it secretly in my head as balaclava.

Igneococcus · 01/10/2014 20:14

So have I it seems Kate

Cherrypi · 01/10/2014 20:15

Me too Kate. Though so do Paul and Chetna.

Igneococcus · 01/10/2014 20:17

Chai and pistachios, it couldn't get much better for me really.

MagratsHair · 01/10/2014 20:18

Bloody hate baklava!

mrspremise · 01/10/2014 20:18
KateSMumsnet · 01/10/2014 20:20

Every time they say it they all say something different! I'm just going to call it "that flaky sticky pastry thing", much easier

Wickeddevil · 01/10/2014 20:21

Oh dear am secretly a bit pleased that smug Louis' baklava was less than perfect.

TrendStopper · 01/10/2014 20:21

Next week is the final. Can't believe it. Will have to switch to The Apprentice.

I would like to see Chetna or Louis to win.

coffeeinbed · 01/10/2014 20:22

It;s not fair though.
Baklava need to sit in the syrup and soak, overnight if needs be.

They have to pour the syrup and serve.
No.

coffeeinbed · 01/10/2014 20:24

Oh Schicht Torte.
Also known as Baumkuchen.

Igneococcus · 01/10/2014 20:24

I can do Schichttorte :)
My programming guide says this is part 9 out of 11, is it a two part final?

mrspremise · 01/10/2014 20:25

Never knew schichttorte was grilled!

Jellykat · 01/10/2014 20:27

(KateSMNHQ, I have to say none of them pronounced Baklava correctly, your way could be correct.. ya never know!)

coffeeinbed · 01/10/2014 20:27

Oh hold on.
Not Baumkuchen, that has lair over layer in the same pan.

KateSMumsnet · 01/10/2014 20:28

@Jellykat

(KateSMNHQ, I have to say none of them pronounced Baklava correctly, your way could be correct.. ya never know!)

It's now called sticky pastry thing

coffeeinbed · 01/10/2014 20:28

Oh yes it is.

Sorry...

Helgathehairy · 01/10/2014 20:30

Sorry if this has already been mentioned but what's with the sheriff badge? 4 weeks ago Kate had it, 3 weeks ago Chetna, didn't see it last week and this week Richard has it.

SamBob · 01/10/2014 20:31

The star baker wears it. Richard had it last week!

Helgathehairy · 01/10/2014 20:35

sam that makes sense!

MagratsHair · 01/10/2014 20:38

MagratsHair · 01/10/2014 20:44
