Very sorry to see Martha go; she is really marvellous! DH said she'd have her own series before the night was out. I hope she succeeds in whatever she does. She was charming on extra slice too.

SMT was particularly, and unnecessarily, nasty last night. Maybe he didn't get a shag the night before?

GrouchyKiwi · 25/09/2014 15:55

DD1 (aged 2 1/2) has just told me I look like Nancy. I am 31. Not sure how to take that.

Sad to see Martha go but she did have a bad week. She was lovely on ES, and I too would like to know how she did in her exams.

I love Chetna and hope she wins. Really enjoy that she looks around the world for inspiration.

ShadowStar · 25/09/2014 18:50

I don't think Chetna had an unfair advantage in the technical at all.

She got lucky, yes, but it's not like they told her what it would be ahead of time. In any technical, there's the possibility that a contestant will get lucky and see a recipe that they've cooked hundreds of times before.

ShadowStar · 25/09/2014 18:51

So, yes, Chetna had an advantage. But not an unfair one.

TheDietStartsTomorrow · 25/09/2014 19:42

I think Chetna should have got star baker too. Luis has also been in the running a few time s but it always goes to Richard. Richard is lovely though.

Nancy's just ace. I love her nonchalance and her accent and her style. And I loved her even more after the 'male judge'. I reckon if anyone could give Paul a slap down it would be her.

MagratsHair · 26/09/2014 06:52

Yep I agree, Nancy has grown on me since I saw her refusing to fawn over smt and hang on his every word!

whattheseithakasmean · 26/09/2014 06:57

I think Nancy is great, but think she is next to go. i don't think PH will forgive her for the 'male judge' comment - way to puncture his ego. It just shows it is really Mary they respect & whose good opinion matters.

Moln · 26/09/2014 07:39

I also like Nancy a lot, Cheta seems very nice too, though less revealing of her personality. Richard also seems like a nice guy, and Louis I think wears his ambition and takes praise without bashfulness, I think this makes him less likable to viewers.

MothershipG · 26/09/2014 07:47

Look what the GBBO made me do! First ever doughnuts, 6 with jam and 6 with Apple & Cinnamon, I used the recipe in Delicious here

coffeeinbed · 26/09/2014 08:00

I like Nancy but I don't think she'll win.

Chetna is a bit annoying with her jumping up and the thing shediea with her arms in the air.
Luis lost me with the freezer incident.
So that leaves Richard.

Tbh, I don't have a single favourite this year.

GilesGirl · 26/09/2014 08:15

How was Luis involved with the freezer incident?

MagratsHair · 26/09/2014 08:19

He opened the big chest freezer where Ian's ice cream was and iced the top of his ice cream whilst the freezer was wide open and sod everybody else.

I forget the details of the male judge bit. I find it hard to believe that Nancy forgot SMT's name so was she bringing him down a peg or two. Or did she actually just forget?

GilesGirl · 26/09/2014 08:28

I think she just forgot. It happens.

Okay, I don't remember that at all.

Jux · 26/09/2014 08:35

I do want to make one of those yeast based forrin cakes, but I hate working with yeast, not strong enough to knead it so never quite get it right.

Anyone got any particular recommendations of one which isn't too hard, to start me off?

CambridgeBlue · 26/09/2014 09:57

I wasn't sure about Nancy for a while but much as I did with Kate, I am warming to her a bit now. Anyone who put PH in his place can't be all bad!

ppeatfruit · 26/09/2014 11:00

Jux You could do this with 'enriched ' dough ; I use non wheat flour for my bread like spelt and or Kamut and the beauty of them is (despite PH's opinion) the dough needs very little kneading, I put more yeast in it than is recommended (it never tastes yeasty) and mix well and hey presto you've got nice bread after rising once too!

I liked Nancy's PH face doughnuts (they weren't flattering!).

I enjoyed ES, the little comedian guy was sweet about Martha calling her a child genius but not weird ! Dave Myers's moustache !!!!!!

DeWee · 26/09/2014 15:18

Why on earth did they choose a technical that one of the contestants had an obvious advantage? It's not like they turn up and it's a surprise to Mary and Paul what they're baking beforehand is it?
It wasn't fair on Chetna really, like she said, if she hadn't come top it would have been a failure for her, so it gave her an advantage, but at the same time heaped the pressure on for her.

Icimoi · 26/09/2014 19:50

Paul seemed positively disappointed when he found one of the technical bakes that was actually cooked all the way through. I suppose he guessed it was Chetna's, though.

coffeeinbed · 26/09/2014 19:55

Paul is a knob.

Ilikepie · 26/09/2014 20:31

I like Nancy's backchat to Paul; can't remember exactly what she said but she made me lol on the episode just gone. She won't win though. I think Richard will. What has happened to change general opinion about him on here? A few weeks ago he was a smug baldy 'wankbadger' and now he's totty? Agree with PPs who said they wanted to see some cakes. i watch it to look at nice cakes, and i'd never attempt breads so i've been losing interest recently.

coffeeinbed · 26/09/2014 20:51

I didn't like those breads.
very dated and it's not something I would like to make or eat.
There's been lots of breads and yeasty thing, which isn't all bad, I suppose, I would like to see cinnamon buns and chelsea buns but all these big bread showstopper constructions were boring.

Give us cake.

mausmaus · 26/09/2014 22:12

I'm rooting for nancy, love her for giving contra to the male judge!

SugarPlump · 27/09/2014 06:16

every one was openning and closing freezers keeping doors open looking at their own and each other's not frozen Alaska's there were certainly shots off Richard and even Ian openning and closing freezers constantly that's how Ian's ended up in nancy and Diane's.

It was shown on extra slice to show how wound up Ian was, even before Diane took his out, the fact that mel was going er Luis er Ian's watching he's not happy yet it was fine for isn to open everyone else's freezer and swap the bloody thing between freezers, now that's going to help it set isn't it.

They didn't know what chetna was going to bake, it was obvious by the reaction it was oh I baked this this morning and mel sue Paul and Mary found it amusing that was the case they were all told that chetna had experience. So why didn't they follow her, especially when it came to baking time they must have seen her baking it for that long in the morning, Luis or Richard I think even went oh I'm going to just bake it at high heat for about 25 minutes didn't they all wonder why chetna was sitting on her chair looking at them all while hers was in the oven. If they hadn't gone and chetna baked this this morning, and chetna was going hehe I know what they don't then it would have been an advantage they could all see her, take advantage of her "experience"

MomOfTwoGirls2 · 27/09/2014 21:41

Ah sugar!! Didn't realise I was a week behind on sky+... Ah well

But, based on just watching LAST weeks show, don't they all seem so nice, and so supportive of each other. Just love that two others stepped in to help Martha plate up.

I can't pick a favorite, but I do love Nancy, Chetna and Richard.

MagratsHair · 01/10/2014 09:06

smt is on my Facebook already this
morning!
