BIL is an ex-marine and he's told me some of the stuff they got up to

I'm loving it and rather amused at the naked sleeping thing. I joined the Navy at 17 so its fun seeing all this learning how to iron stuff and kit inspections. I much later on in life joined the TA as a soldier and then did officer training. Doing that kind of stuff when you are in your 30's is so much harder so god knows how the 33 year old is going to cope. Its bloody hard taking orders and be spoken to like your an idiot when your a bit older.

Any marines or marine spouses on the thread?

What makes a good marine? Can you tell from watching yet who will make it and who wont?

Apparently the attention to detail might save your life.

Exp was navy but didnt bring any of his discipline or well practised housekeeping skills home with him

DH says the 30 yr old and the 33yr oldcwont make it.
And most of the relationships will break up. He speaks from experience.

Can women be marines?

Yes.

Thats sad about the relationships. Why is that?

DH most definitely has housekeeping ingrained. He's now reminiscing about doing inspections. Thankfully I can tell him to feck off

It took BIL 3 attempts to pass the final physical tests, he got a stress fracture on his first attempt and a hernia on the second attempt!

I'll have to watch this later, I have a huge crush on an ex royal marine commando, he's a bit enigmatic so this could help explain things!

No. Women cannot be marines.

Surely he would have disclosed his exzema before joining and they would have told him it was a no goer?

Women can be Marines but they have to pass the same physical tests as the men, no exemptions.

I should clarify, women can join the Marines but they cannot join a combat unit and fight in the field.

The pre deployment training I did before going out to Afghan had some fresh out of training marines and they were awesome. Showed everyone else up and very scary to think they would be out fighting when they only looked about 12! However, their drills were shit hot!

Ahh bootnecks you have to love them, the slang such as hoofing, honking will never get old! Ally is also another phrase.

They always make me smile, there sense of humour is like no other, they also never grow up :) it's rather amusing.

Women cannot serve in the combat arm of the Royal Marines. That's why you won't see any being trained in this programme!

Women CAN be Marines. But only since recently. They have to pass exactly the same course though.

Relationships break up because a) no time to see each other and b)Marines always come first.

Women can join the band or be adjuants attached to RM.

at Boudica, BIL is always using hoofing!
