I can't decide! MG for me veered between really good and really annoying. Loved her clothes tho. Is she in a relationship with the nanny?

Agree that's what she meant librarybook. Also, i thought the reason Ephra was running the company 8 years ago was because Nessa wasn't there as she was kidnapped, so he'd had to step up to keep the secret. Dp disagrees, but I thought it was so obviously that.

GypsyFloss · 22/07/2014 17:36

I was under the impression that Ephra took over from his dead dad/ dead dad's deputy and followed in the family business of weapons/ armament. Then after Nessa was kidnapped and released he was moved into the education arm of the business and she took over, neatly moving the business into network cabling. The soon to be retired spy commented to Ephra about what the old business was into.

I think the secret is to do with why that change happened.

Janek · 23/07/2014 08:46

You're probably right then gypsy, i just thought the reason the mi6 bods were sniffing around at all/were suspicious of 8 years ago was because ephra was in charge, not nessa, when she usually would have been.

TreadSoftlyOnMyDreams · 23/07/2014 12:59

I find it bizarre that Nessa seems to live in a huge mansion/security bubble with a panic room, whereas Ephra, Rachel and their children seem to live in a more normal if v large place. Attika keeps popping through the darkened front door late at night - there's no evidence of any internal/external security and I find it bizarre that Kasim and she have a bedroom down the hall from the master bedroom given that she is the putative housekeeper.

It all seems too obvious that Nessa is Kasim's mother at this stage. I'm starting to wonder if its a red herring and she simply agreed to work for the Palestinians in exchange for their freedom. She doesn't want Attika and Kasim around as it would be a daily reminder of it and she knows that he is Ephra's son, but he doesn't know he is the father.

F88k knows - I'm enjoying it though. I'm also very sadly enjoying the fact that while Maggie is super skinny she looks like a woman who's had a baby and occasionally looks pretty shattered. Very shallow I know.

OneStepCloser · 23/07/2014 13:09

Erm, so if Nessas the mother are we saying that Ephras the father?

I'm so confused, but enjoying it -I think!?

Also, Nessa sent Nathaniel to his death after speaking to the kidnappers to say her secret wasn't safe, that doesn't make sense because wouldn't she be working with the kidnappers?

The secret has got to be bigger than the child surely? And Schlomo why doesn't she want to believe him?

So many questions Smile

OneStepCloser · 23/07/2014 13:11

Ah, she's the spy or not working for peace perhaps, perhaps she pretending to work for peace but wants revenge for her fathers murder? Maybe to took over from Ephra because he wasn't strong enough? Maybe she's the evil one?

(Clutching at straws)

GretchenWiener · 23/07/2014 13:13

i still want to know who puts her clothes out.
and WHY is no one really very sad about the kid being kidnapped - and only one post retirement Police officer seems to see them ever

GretchenWiener · 23/07/2014 13:14

i dont understand all this " nathaniel was sent to his death" stuff
and he was HAWT

TreadSoftlyOnMyDreams · 23/07/2014 15:14

There's a GREAT thread running on this in comments on the Guardian website

best quote ever
"All this over a broadband contract.... makes you wonder what Plusnet are up to"

TreadSoftlyOnMyDreams · 23/07/2014 15:17

Someone also speculated that perhaps Atika's sneaking out at night is to visit Kasim?

Rockdoctor · 23/07/2014 20:39

Ooh, I love that thread you linked to TreadSoftly. That comment about Attica reassuring Kasim before he went off to the concert is interesting - perhaps she is in on it and perhaps she is sneaking out to visit him.

ShineSmile · 23/07/2014 23:11

But she looks very well dressed and made up (her hair and make up) to be sneaking out to visit it just Kassim?

GypsyFloss · 24/07/2014 05:52

My Dd has always thought that Attica and Nessa are in on the " kidnap" and are using it to force changes in Stein.

TreadSoftlyOnMyDreams · 24/07/2014 11:42

I think there is a lot more to Attica than meets the eye. Her comment about learning how to wait is telling. I wouldn't be at all surprised to see Ephra and his family and Nessa meet a bitter end by the end of all this. though it would be pretty shoddy and cliche'd writing to just have her turn into a mad fundamentalist type

GlaikitFizzog · 24/07/2014 21:24

Argh! Series link hasn't worked , I've missed the first 20 minutes.

Anyone give me a quick update?

GypsyFloss · 24/07/2014 21:27

Am only just starting it now.

GypsyFloss · 24/07/2014 21:55

God I'm confused again.

lisbapalea · 24/07/2014 22:01

Totally confused. But I know one thing and that's that I want to channel Janet McTeer speaking to Ephra Stein when next negotiating with my 4yr old.

GlaikitFizzog · 24/07/2014 22:03

When does the guardian roundup get posted?

BelleOfTheBorstal · 24/07/2014 22:09

Found that episode absolutely harrowing.
Kassim is Nessa's and burned face guys. What Attica did to burned face man was completely deserved.
Nessa ended up.in Gaza because she noticed a sun of money had not ended up where it was supposed to.
This was a payment that was used to fund the release of an Israeli soldier who was being held hostage.
Efra knew about this, Nessa and the Israeli state didn't.
So basically, everything that happens afterwards, is Efra's fault.
Kidnapping Kassim, must be stage two of burned mans fathers plans to humilate the legacy of Papa Stein.

QuaverQueen · 24/07/2014 22:13

Oh yes, burned face man us the father, of course!

ethelb · 24/07/2014 22:15

So Ephra meant to pay the 1.5m to free the Israeli soldier but it got into the wrong hands? So why will the state of Israel never forgive him?

And he didn't tell Nessa? Why? It's quite sloppy to send her out to see the £1.5m modern languages wing and not let her in on it.

Quite sloppy of her to go on a one woman crusade to Gaza though.

And who is the man on dialysis? He's the dad of burnt face man but why is he important?! They obviously didn't honour the 'you can tell the world bit' did theY?

GypsyFloss · 24/07/2014 22:16

Good call on the paternity Suede.

I'm still behind here, on the rape scene which is a bit hard viewing tbh.

lisbapalea · 24/07/2014 22:16

Who was burned man's father - totally recognised him but I don't know if that's from earlier this series, or from another programme entirely.
