No oral sex.

What about when you're married?

waterducksback · 29/06/2014 18:33

Have a date night with your spouse once per week.

Very good advice.

But what if date night involves oral sex?

Have a google of Mormons and California Proposition 8 - they poured a shedload of money into attempting to get a constitutional amendment passed outlawing same sex relationships, and if memory serves correctly, also went to court in an attempt to hide the fact that they were funding this. It was initially passed by the legislature, but later struck down as being unconstitutional.

The church line is that they have no problems with LGBT members, as long as they live celibate lives, and never try to form relationships. It's held that SSA is a choice. There was at one time a church funded establishment dedicated to curing SSA, which used various methods including electro-shock therapy.

waterducksback · 29/06/2014 18:35

Some of the 'advice ' is excellent.

Some - not so.

waterducksback · 29/06/2014 18:37

Tapirbackrider · 29/06/2014 18:41

There was a unbelievable pamphlet issued called "Steps for overcoming masturbation" (Only in boys/men though, cos us girls don't do things like that...)

Such remedies contained therein included cutting out spicy foods, wearing tight pyjamas, and tying your wanking hand to the bedpost.

There's a video on youtube issued by the Mormon university about how friends don't let friends masturbate - worth a look.

Yes, oral sex was banned for all, there is a copy of the letter available to view online. In fact, I think it bans all 'unnatural' acts.

Tapirbackrider · 29/06/2014 18:47

In Mormonism (until 1979) white = righteous, black or anything other than white = not righteous. Mormons used to equate the colour of skin to the curse of cain in the bible.

There is actually a verse in the book of Mormon (any published prior to 1979) which contains the words "White and delightsome", and "Dark and loathsome".

Some of the 'rules' make a lot of sense.

And yet some of the rules are 'nonsense'.

Tapirbackrider · 29/06/2014 18:53

Anti Masturbation video....

Compares masturbation to war Hmm

Tapirbackrider · 29/06/2014 18:55

Here, some quotes by Brigham Young about race.

"You see some classes of the human family that are black, uncouth, uncomely, disagreeable and low in their habits, wild, and seemingly deprived of nearly all the blessings of the intelligence that is generally bestowed upon mankind . . . Cain slew his brother. Cain might have been killed, and that would have put a termination to that line of human beings. This was not to be, and the Lord put a mark upon him, which is the flat nose and black skin." (Journal of Discourses, vol. 7, p. 290).

"In our first settlement in Missouri, it was said by our enemies that we intended to tamper with the slaves, not that we had any idea of the kind, for such a thing never entered our minds. We knew that the children of Ham were to be the "servant of servants," and no power under heaven could hinder it, so long as the Lord would permit them to welter under the curse and those were known to be our religious views concerning them." (Journal of Discourses, vol. 2, p. 172).

"Shall I tell you the law of God in regard to the African race? If the white man who belongs to the chosen seed mixes his blood with the seed of Cain, the penalty, under the law of God, is death on the spot. This will always be so." (Journal of Discourses, vol. 10, p. 110).

A lot of the rules are basically 'busy work', obviously because the less time you have to yourself as a person, the less time you have to realise it's all not quite what it seems.

Another gem about doing as your told...

‘My boy, you always keep your eye on the President of the Church and if he ever tells you to do anything, and it is wrong, and you do it, the Lord will bless you for it.’ Then with a twinkle in his eye, he said, ‘But you don’t need to worry. The Lord will never let his mouthpiece lead the people astray.’” Heber J Grant (Conference Report, October 1960, p. 78.)

waterducksback · 29/06/2014 18:59

Tapirbac, that is disturbing.

Tapirbackrider · 29/06/2014 19:00

you're not your

waterducksback · 29/06/2014 19:01

Tapirback?
What is your stance on Mormonism?

waterducksback · 29/06/2014 19:03

or should that be you're (nitpicking lol)

MysweetAudrina · 29/06/2014 19:04

Tbr we really have had such opposite experiences of the Church. I must have missed the lesson on no oral sex and the one on being subservient to my husband. Funny how me being the main bread winner and the one pursuing night study to further my career was never mentioned. There was never an issue with my son not attending his mission. In fact i don't think i experienced any of the things you mentioned.

LarrytheCucumber · 29/06/2014 19:04

A lot of it is in the Bible, but not all. Doesn't the Bible say "By grace are we saved through faith, and that is the gift of God, not of works, lest any man should boast' (roughly). And yet the Mormon way seems to be saying you have to do all these works before you can be saved.
And what about giving a curse, not a blessing if anyone rejects you. Doesn't sit well with 'Love your enemies and pray for those who hurt you'.

waterducksback · 29/06/2014 19:05

andyourpointis?

waterducksback · 29/06/2014 19:07
