Such a great show. I'm glad I re-watched the last episode of the previous season as so much is going on!

Connie Britton was so good in Friday Night Lights, but she seems to lifeless in Nashville. Her reactions are all off, and huge revelations only get a raised eyebrow in response. Has anyone else noticed this?

tribpot · 11/05/2014 13:26

She certainly doesn't seem as present in this season (and does far less singing, I don't know if anyone has noticed?). However, Rayna must be unbelievably stressed and I wonder if shutting down is a coping mechanism.

Jjou · 11/05/2014 20:59

Yes, I think this season Rayna is definitely less...there. However my deep abiding love for Connie Britton means I see this more as deliberate rather than less-than- great acting. Rayna had always hidden rather than facing anything, and her relationship with Luke is another example of this: she'll be in a relationship with a guy she's not that fussed about rather than really confront what she did to Deacon.
She's had a really shit year: her last record bombed, her husband cheated on her and they divorced, brief reunion with the love of her life, her big paternity secret and the impact on her kids, near death in a fiery car crash, now her record label worry and the fact its success seems to hinge on Scarlett of all people, not to mention her dad in prison etc. and of course Luke Wheeler...it's not surprising she's shut down and closed off.

DustBunnyFarmer · 11/05/2014 22:05

Now the schism with Tandy and the news about her Dad's part in her mother's death. By all rights, she should be rocking in a corner and emitting a low pitched wail.

BookFairy · 13/05/2014 08:27

Yes Black Roses! I'm nervous about opening the link in case there are spoilers Confused so will probably save for the end of the season.

Yy to the comments about Rayna "shutting down". I think a lot more emotion will come out in the next few weeks.

I loved the song with Rayna and her two girls. More please!

Am so happy to find this thread as have just discovered (and devoured) every episode of nashville in less than a week Blush.

Loving juliette more this season. Favourite bit was rant at Jeff at the oprn. Agree Connie britton is really convincing as someone fighting fires on all fronts.

Luke is a potato - seriously wtf would raynor see in someone who starts his concerts with the words "wheels up" whilst doing a sort of Bruce Forsyth pose.

Don't mind Scarlett , have gone off Gunnar since he is with Zoe and will started off as quite a promising character but is being wasted .

Jjou · 16/05/2014 13:59

Lol at 'Bruce Forsyth pose' , he thinks he's so cool but this sums him up. Last night was so much better for the lack of Luke in it.

Oh Rayna Sad - I was expecting a meltdown at some point, but I really just wanted to give her a hug. I do hope she's including herself in the "all this lying it's got to stop" statement, but I doubt it.

Loved Deacon with Avery, Gunnar and Zoey Smile

I hope so too jjou- truth about maddie has got to come out. I quite like Tandy so wish they would make up ( also was Tandy wearing a wedding ring ??)

Loved Juliet ridiculous makeover and deacon and the band ( zoey is meh tho ).

No luke and lots of Liam -very good Grin.

DustBunnyFarmer · 17/05/2014 19:26

Juliet's makeover was so bonkers it was almost brilliant.

Downloaded Claire Bowen's live recording of Black Roses from iTunes last night. It's lovely, though it would benefit from less applause at the end.

tribpot · 18/05/2014 14:45

I've just watched the final ep - obv will not share any spoilers - but just wanted to say I do think some of the feeling that Rayna isn't fully present is because she isn't performing very much in this series. She does a number of songs in the final episode and it reminds you what a superstar Rayna is. I wonder if Connie Britton specifically asked for fewer songs this year.

"Wheels up" as a catchphrase is just hilariously bad - he's obviously meant to be a stereotypical macho C&W singer. The sort of thing Will is trying to emulate.

Jjou · 19/05/2014 09:57

I saw the finale last night tribpot and would have to agree. I do think even without the performance aspect Rayna is hiding though. I guess it's understandable with everything she's been through.

Don't know if Connie Britton has asked for fewer songs - the final few episodes of the series she actually sang live which would seem as though she's slightly more confident with the whole singing thing...she did give the Nashville On the Record concert a miss though Wink

BookFairy · 07/06/2014 10:35

I just love Nashville atm :)

Does Teddy know that Deacon and the lawyer are together? I expect someone will catch them soon. I think Maddie will show up at Deacon's home and say she is moving in.

I just downloaded the new album as I saw that Black Roses and Falling are on it. Quite excited about listening to it Blush

Jjou · 09/06/2014 13:03

I've been listening to the new album constantly...Blush

Deacon found out about Megan and Teddy in last Thursday's ep. Teddy has turned in a v creepy guy though...urgh. I feel vindicated in the hatred I've had for him from the get-go Grin And he made me feel a bit sorry for Megan, which is more than I've felt towards her the whole time she's been in the show.

Too much Luke in the last episode, though...bummer. Surely the fact that Rayna hadn't told him about Deacon being Maddie's father would be a huge red flag...dude, she's not that into you. Despite the faint protestations on her part that she is.

stringbean · 09/06/2014 14:03

Luke Wheeler has been signed up to be a 'regular' in season 3, so he's going to be appearing more .

Jjou · 09/06/2014 15:00

Yuk. That knowledge makes me feel very sad.

I find him an extremely unappealing actor and character. Still Pig-Blood Peggy was signed up to be a regular for season 2, and she bit the dust fairly sharpish

DustBunnyFarmer · 09/06/2014 19:48

I'm really liking Scarlet's slow solo ballads, but they'renot very country.

RedHatNoDrawers · 11/06/2014 21:50

Juliet is definitely my favourite character this series whereas I didn't really like her in the last one. I used to like Gunnar but his moody wanting to keep his girlfriend out of the business / jealousy thing is very wearing.

iseenodust · 13/06/2014 18:19

The relationship between Scarlett & her mother had more substance than I was expecting.

Anyone else spotted Gunnar in Episodes?

stringbean · 13/06/2014 20:04

Blimey - Scarlett's mother is a mean piece of work isn't she?!? I'm beginning to understand why Scarlett's the way she is. And that rendition of Black Roses was SO bitter....

Not sure about anyone else, but the longer I watch this, the less I want Deacon and Rayna to get back together. I don't think much of Rayna's relationship with Luke Wheeler - he's just got too big an ego and they have no chemistry together - but Deacon just seems to be a better person generally when he's not with Rayna. I'm not sure where this will all go in season 3 - suggestions, anyone?

iseenodust · 13/06/2014 21:17

I thought the Whoopi Goldberg cameo last night was high profile but now I've seen the trailer for next week's episode.

DustBunnyFarmer · 19/06/2014 22:02

Season finale? Noooo. It's only been on for a couple of weeks, surely?

Heels99 · 25/06/2014 12:40

Yes I saw Gunnar in episodes!

Hope Scarlett and a very don't get back together (again) surely there are more young fellas in nashville city then avery and Gunnar!!!!

DustBunnyFarmer · 26/06/2014 22:15

Aw shit. DH were getting all excited thinking "wheels up" had been blown to bits, but he's still talking.

Heels99 · 27/06/2014 10:19

And singing....unfortunately. It was a quick recovery. Then they managed to stage a full concert inc Michelle Obama just 24 hours later. These people have awesome organisational skills...
