Anyone watching? It is so slow. I'm not sure I'll be watching parts 2 and 3 or even the whole of part 1.

OP posts:

I liked it and enjoyed the book.

tribpot · 26/12/2013 21:30

I've struggled with the book. It read like rather amateur fan-fiction, certainly not something I'd expect PD James to knock out. Lots of arch quoting from P&P and the shades of Pemberley being polluted. Too much - it needs an incredibly deft touch to bring a sequel like that to life. I thought the idea of giving it a plot device (murder mystery) was a good one, as there's obv not a lot you can do with the plot of the original P&P, since basically no-one gives a toss who Kitty marries and Georgiana's already had too much adversity for one young lady.

wetaugust · 26/12/2013 21:55

I liked it - even though Darcy, the Colonel and Wickham all look the same to me without my glasses on!

BitOfFunWithSanta · 26/12/2013 21:58

I adore Anna Maxwell Martin, and it was crammed with guy candy. What's not to like?

The book is apparently dire, but I liked this dramatisation.

Lurleene · 26/12/2013 21:59

I liked it too. Matthew Rhys, Matthew Goode..... What's not to like? Confused.

LumpySpacePrincessOhMyGlob · 26/12/2013 22:00

I liked it too.

Lurleene · 26/12/2013 22:00

What's not to like? Ha Ha x-posted.

Scarletohello · 26/12/2013 22:01

Guy candy. Ha ha not heard that one before, like it!

And Mathew Goode, yum...:)

coffeeinbed · 26/12/2013 22:02

I'm being thick but what's the "horrible consequences" if it turns out Wickham 's done it?

Greydog · 26/12/2013 22:03

Gave up - bored. But this morning I caught the very end of a programme - Pride and Prejudice "having a ball" and it looked great. So why was it on in the morning. Will have to find it on iplayer.

tribpot · 26/12/2013 22:05

The having a ball prog wasn't new, I suspect that's why it was on at a 'repeaty' hour of the morning. Good programme, though.

BitOfFunWithSanta · 26/12/2013 22:06

I think they mean the loss of reputation to Darcy's family, and the consequent damage to Georgiana's marriage prospects, coffee.

girliefriend · 26/12/2013 22:07

I quite liked it

I think its better than the book but I think Lizzie looks a bit... older than I imagined her to but otherwise its fine for watching whilst scoffing dds chocolate money Grin

BalloonSlayer · 26/12/2013 22:08

I enjoyed it.

I liked the way I found myself using my knowledge of P&P to think things like "well maybe Lydia is sick of Wickham and sneaked out of the coach to kill him and killed Denny instead" etc.

I did think - and this is unsisterly of me, sorry - that Anna Maxwell Martin looked too old to be Lizzy though. She is supposed to be 26 I think?

BalloonSlayer · 26/12/2013 22:09

x post with girliefriend

coffeeinbed · 26/12/2013 22:09

oh..
it sounded like something immediately sinister.
I'll have to watch and see..

coffeeinbed · 26/12/2013 22:11

She looked tired, worn out.
I never imagined Lizzy to look like this.

BitOfFunWithSanta · 26/12/2013 22:15

Oh, and the fact that Wickham would swing for it, I suppose.

Anna M-M looked a bit old, but I can live with that and put it down to Lizzie having two kids. Plus getting shagged raw by Darcy on a nightly basis. It's the kind of thing that ruined my looks anyway Xmas Grin.

wetaugust · 26/12/2013 22:21

Lizzie did look a bit haggard.

Lydia was played very convincingly.

MrsVaughnRice · 26/12/2013 22:24

Does she have 2 children? I thought it was just one boy? It's a bit surprising that it's so few either way.

Nishky · 26/12/2013 22:29

I liked it. I wasn't going to watch it as I am a huge Austen fan and thought it would be crass. Then I saw that Ann M M was in it and decided to give it a whirl.

It's Christmas collapsing in sofa fare as far as I am concerned and suited me fine!

alemci · 26/12/2013 22:41

I thought in the book she did have 2 sons.

nennypops · 26/12/2013 22:43

I'm enjoying it. I haven't read the book, I think Colonel Fitzwilliam dunnit. Don't tell me if I'm wrong.

And I've fancied Matthew Goode rotten since "Dancing on the Edge".

Thisisaghostlyeuphemism · 26/12/2013 22:45

It was slow at the start, but I loved it.

Couldn't decide which fella I fancied most- darcy I think, naturally.

Anna whatshername is great.

wetaugust · 26/12/2013 22:45

FFS! Nenny

When you post things like that you're supposed to prefix it with SPOILER warning.

You've certainly spoiled it for me - thanks.
